Why did Battalion 1944 die? (What happened to Battalion 1944...)

I loved this game but the reasons it died were 1. A lot of people misunderstood what this game actually was. A lot of people thought this was going to be a more realistic shooter or even somewhat like Day of Defeat and when they learned it's meant to be like CoD 2 and CoD 4 Promod, they weren't happy 2. Servers were broken for the first 3 or so days of the beta's launch and by then most people just refunded the game and left with a bad taste in their mouth 3. Faceit integration sometimes just didn't work at all 4. Charging $19.99 USD and not making this game F2P especially when games like CSGO were free just made people not wanna try the game out

Thanks a lot for your comment! You have very true and valid points here, that I agree upon. It also shows again how important it is to make a first impression already in a beta. And furthermore on launch day as well, especially when it comes to performance in an fps shooter. Look at BF 2042, they totally missed out on that and they're now paying the price; the player base is now only half of what it was around launch.

I put close to 100 hours into this game when it came out and it was amazing. Sort of reminded me of CoD WaW.

I have so many memories playing MOHAA back in the day on PC. I had such high hopes for this game and was a backer. Was so sad to see it fail so miserably.

@@40splishsplash it makes no sense honestly. the game is perfectly playable and it's exactly what a lot of us are looking for. Such a shame people are too stubborn to give it a second chance. Hopefully promod scratches the itch when they release it.

1. There was cheaters in this game 2. Maps were designed poorly, for attacker on Search & destroy mode it was impossible to plant the bomb because defender could come from 6 different sides 3. Unbalanced weapons (some were overpowered - shotgun) and waiting for patch more than 1 month to balance the weapons and after the patch they ruin the guns even more. 4. Not f2p (they should make it like cs go and release skins etc so people could decide what to buy) There was more issues but I can't remember it because I played the game 2-3 years ago

Good comment and some very valid points. I guess map design matters even more when playing a game mode such as Search Destroy, something I never tried playing in Battalion 1944.

@@40splishsplash I played S&D because I played CoD2 so much, and basically a some maps are copied from CoD2 (eg. Liberation is Burgundy on cod2) but on Burgundy you could plant the bomb and on Liberation u can't because u can get flanked from 6 different spots. And all guns are the same from CoD2, and game from 2005 felt so much better. I had fun in Battalion, not gonna lie, but developers were lazy for a new era of shooter games.

As you may know they're now developing a game called "PROMOD" based on the old Cod 4 promod. It's now in a playtest phase)I've done a video), and it's possible to join the playtest via Steam.

Devs didn't care for the players (casual/competitive), just the esports scene. And then died. I used to play competitively on faceit. Plus the servers were horrible where many shoots wouldn't register it.

Thanks for your comment! Yes, the game got abandoned when it comes to further support, indeed. I was just hoping that there would be at least a few hundred people still playing the game every day, but no...I've heard that the devs are working on a new game now, not sure what it is.

I agree, the best thing they could do, but still make some money from it, is to make it free to play. I do think with some marketing that both old players and new players would find their way to the game.

The developers did acknowledge mistakes being made along the way, when it comes to the development cycle. I guess that's the main reason. But as I've said in another video; make this game free to play, and it would gain an audience again.

161h in Battalion, 15-20k in csgo. People accused me from hacking in Battalion faceit matches so I'm not sure was I part of the dying or wtf happend :( Really miss the game tbh.

No, I would say experienced and good players are important for a game like this, alongside with "noobs" or and newcomers. I think the devs are quite well aware what kind of mistakes they made, and hopefully they'll won't repeat them when moving on with another game.

Maybe this is one of those games that could get a kind of "revival" if they put some work and new content into it(made it free to play), and then made sure that a famous KZbin or/and streamer played the game for some good marketing 🙂

For me this game had potential but had poor map design which effects its core gameplay element (SnD) gun play was ok but got bored very quickly i wont deny i had some fun times but i only got the most fun when playing with mates doing our own thing but that didn't last long. Now i know a lot of people say they miss this game it was the best but when i see people on the discord say hey lets get a game going on again i really miss they get a team of 10 and they are bored within 10 mins and come to the realisation its not as fun as they thought. as to why it may have failed The Devs didnt really communicate well what this game was some thought it was like cod2 some thought it was going to be like cod4 promod some even thought it was going to be like day of defeat, The Devs were very toxic on the early access release again they didn't really communicate what stage of development the game was at but from their hype people thought it was almost done but it wasn't it was a mess (im not referring to just the server issues here) the devs resorted to attacking people on reddit and steam who were giving constructive criticism and honest opinions doing the whole your not a dev what do you know, this eventually lead to an " apology " video, they lied on the Kickstarter saying they had veteran devs on the team yet on their promod page (another cancelled game) they say battalion failed because they was inexperienced and essentially all juniors, As for trusting this studio to hopefully bring this back or make other games i see too many red flags as well as the lie above there's a video on youtube where the lead Joe Brammer admits if they only met their initial Kickstarter goal they wouldn't of bothered making the game as it wasn't enough that's a red flag there, people still not got their Kickstarter rewards and i believe some other promises were not met. they made fake reviews on glass door and attacked ex employees when being called out, there was also some twitter drama that lead to leaked screenshots of messages from employees (screenshot are gone but i have saved them). The founders of this studio love to try and control the narrative and will do that by any means necessary. i wouldnt trust or support these guys to be honest

For me this game was just casual fun, meaning playing it from time to time, especially since it did partly remind me of older Cod games as well. Have a great day :)

Battalion 1944 and Days of War were games i was looking really forward to playing Battalion 1944: The CoD2 "remake" Days of War: Day of Defeat "remake" Sadly Battalion 1944 ended up being a quake clone but with a ww2 skin and Days of War just didnt work :/
