From what I heard about the Dana / Cyborg situation was Dana did offer Cyborg the Amanda rematch but they offered her shit money for it (probably on purpose to get her to say no) and she turned the money down but still wanted the fight. Big John is right.. Dana likes to tell half truths. Cyborg did turn down the Nunes rematch, but not for the fight itself..but for the shit money offer. It played out exactly how Dana wanted it too.

before the last second fight (thanks to couple of guys who decided to pass) with Conor, Nate was fighting for 20k/20k. Meisha won the title and was fighting for 45k. Rory left parts of himself in that slugfest with Lawler for 59k. These were well established UFC stars. Cerrone isn't the first guy to come to mind when I think of low purses. Besides, there are quite a number of UFC fighters who have to work/teach/bounce to make ends meet and if you're a professional sport and your athletes need a 2nd job to live that makes you a semi-pro league.

Surely the published amounts are "top line" - who pays the training expenses, gyms, foods, corner guys, it's the fighter isn't it? There are now the performance institutes, which are publicised by UFC as a free resource, but in terms of location not may fighters can use them. Given fighters are free agents with all the expenses that entails, (agents negotiating for them, accountants, office and admin facilities, healthcare), the fees (they are not wages) many fighters receive are inadequate and miniscule compared with UFC profit and turnover.

The average NFL career is 3.3 years. Average career for UFC or Bellator is probably less than 2 years. Non of these fighters or players with average career lengths are set for life when they leave their sport. The money made MAYBE gives than a head start financially and they have an interesting life experience.

Neither White or Rogan called Cyborg a man while she was signed with the UFC. Cyborg is the one who edited a video of Dana and added false subtitles to make him look bad. Cyborg got knocked out, didn't want the rematch, and started bringing up comments from 4-5 years ago so she had an excuse for why she left the UFC. Here's the thing, Cyborg signed with the UFC after those comments were made; that in and of itself would've informed everyone that those comments are a non-issue, but Cyborg herself already said that they were a non-issue. Not only is what Cyborg did against undersized women unforgivable (abusing steroids), but even worse is she created a situation where I'm defending Dana White of all people. The other fighters leaving for better pay/treatment I completely agree with though, but Cyborg is the exception.

regular labour workers can graft until they're 70 years old. sure its not easy grinding everyday just to stay afloat but mma careers dont last long and they come out with brain damage most of the time so they should be paid well imo. The pay is better now than it was 15 years ago for sure but its hard to see guys like Chuck still trying to fight at 50 years old because he was getting paid peanuts when he was fighting in his prime.
