It does seem like the stereotype of the guy who moves to LA and becomes an entirely different person. While he doesn’t explicitly look down on the SC2 community, it definitely seemed like he felt ashamed for having participated in it - that it would be a stain on his new image. Deleting thousands of hours of work - which could still be monetized by the way - and erasing some part of history with it is hard to rationalize as being part of the “creative process”. I think Harstem does well in filling Husky’s shoes, being a very knowledgeable player but also a lovable nerd at the same time. It is cool that the community is still thriving and other creators are stepping up to fill the void, but it is hard to imagine what it would have turned out as without Husky.

Not only that for a long time he was THE only caster and we lost so many legendary games that he had on his channel even if you put him aside the video archive of those games are important to there are not many full games with IdrA on youtube anymore there are some but not many and IdrA was Husky's favorite (mine to) and husky tried to cover all of IdrA's games

I think he was mostly getting burnt out, mixed with issues with his voice.... if that really happened at all.... then his gf was starting to get her own thing going and they probably had a talk and decided to go all in on her channel.... it doesn't matter though a simple 5 mins vid with a small explanation of "I'm moving on, it's been fun while it lasted thank you all for the support over the years" some shit like that is a tiny ask for the people who made your life possible.... yet nah I guess not. I think the worst part was he deleted all the videos without notice. Thanks to Husky I'm a Starcraft 2 fan to this day, but instead of thinking highly of him, I now detest what he did to us fans. He's with his head so high up in the clouds and around himself and his own interest that he just didn't care about what he'd do to his old fans to delete the old channel. He distanced himself from his old persona so he'll have to accept as well that people liking his old persona will distance themselves from his new persona. Simple as that.

Husky had stated many times while casting games that he was always going to cast StarCraft games and never leave the community. Alas, money and his new found gf/wife has changed him significantly. And yes, 100 percent he deleted the channel due to either his gf/wife saying it looked bad on him and her or deleted it due to his new found image and he did not want the previous image to ruin him. This is Husky officially distancing himself from the StarCraft community and no longer wanting any part of it.

Adding to that, I think that people would've been very understanding about his vocal chords being on the verge of receiving permanent damage - let's be real, he was always loud and very talkative during his casts, that's bound to cause issues - and even if that's just something he made up to make his do-over more believeable, I think most, too, would've just accepted that and left him be. Doing neither of that is just... weird, to say the least, and disrespectful given that some were indeed worried for his well-being.

This will probably end up being an unnecessarily long comment, but Husky was an indescribably large part of my childhood. I loved every single one of his videos and so did my friends who played the game with me. We played matches on the Imba League map, laughed at the Banelings music video, and had so many more great memories thanks to Husky. I was confused and sad when he stopped making videos, but eventually I sort of forgot about him. His rebrand out of nowhere was pretty hard to watch though. I'll always be thankful for the entertainment he gave us back in the day, but it's pretty clear he decided it wasn't worth trying to appeal to his old viewers at all when coming back. I understand we're a small group compared to the fans he probably has from his girlfriend's channel, but if nothing else the SC community is faithful to the game and its figures, and there's no way he didn't know there were many, many people out there who would have appreciated anything, a tweet at least. And deleting his channel was just unnecessary - those videos were so important to the popularity of the game, and I've seen many comments on reuploads thankful they can experience a fond memory again. I hate the word "fake," but I could barely finish his "explanation" video. He literally looks like a cutout from a TV show now and feels more brand than person, which is a shame because his personality made the casts fun. Husky's definitely making fat stacks now and I can respect that choice since SC2 was never going to be the biggest moneymaker, but I personally don't have any respect for the way he left, the new content he produces, or his new on-camera "character."

Yes! I fully agree. They showed that anybody can ladder without taking it too serious. I had the game, but we only played 4v4 vs AI in a group of friends. After HD and Husky made the game look a lot less scary, I eventually started laddering 1v1. It's been a while, but I got to a pretty high level and was occasionally matched with GM's before I quit the game.

Oh man, this was a trip down memory lane. Husky is/was one of the main reasons why I still love SC2. You can still feel his impact across a lot of SC2 content today. I was really sad when he vanished, and I think people just felt really betrayed when he pulled his videos, like the SC2 community gave him a platform to stand on, and once he was high enough to do something else he took it all away. Of course, as you said, hope he's doing well and it's his life, but man it still bums me out thinking about it!

People literally didn't know where he went, so he clearly didn't use his prior popularity to jump off into a higher career. Was it a good, or nice way to end it? No, obviously not. But it's not like his former fans have any kind of entitlement to have him continue his previous style of content, as long as he doesn't strictly expcet his former fans to go along with the new stuff he does.

He wasn't the greatest in casting skills, but he obviously had a lot of heart and passion and that showed and he tried hard to improve. He had a near daily upload schedule of HD Starcraft 2 videos when he was active, which at the time a lot of videos were not HD.

I remember this drama involving Husky, post-rebrand. For whatever reason, he and Rosanna inserted themselves into some MatPat drama, and were white-knighting Mat. It was something they had no business participating in it, aside from a recent Game Theory collab at best. And upon their arrival, former friends, including Jessie Cox and inControl, basically confirmed that Rosanna and Husky cut entire circles out of their lives for rebranding/monetary purposes. I've not watched a Husky or Nerdy Nummies video since, and haven't lost any sleep over it.

This is the man that got me hooked on watching the pros. I only remember him casting one major live event with the other pro-casters of the time. It felt like his day had finally come to rise above his youtube channel. However, by the second or third day he had completely lost his voice. It was pretty hard to watch as I was a huge fan of his but he was clearly over his head. I remember feeling really bad for him afterwards and always thought that was the beginning of the end.

This is so jarring. Just his appearance alone, scruffy unkept bed-head hair, plain pastel-coloured T-shirts and jeans and natural face (no filter/makeup); You get the impression of someone who isn't bothered about appearance or superficial image. Compared to bleach white slicked back hair, very brash brightly coloured clothes and plucked eyebrows and make-up. They couldn't be more diametrically opposed. I mean I guess to us it looks like an instant switch when for him is was happing over the course of 6 years, but it just doesn't seem real at all.

I think his explanation makes sense when combined with some theories about what have happened. Really active and passionate creators like him tend to put a huge load of pressure onto themselves up to the point it becomes unhealthy. He probably was kind of ashamed of his voice issues, pushing himself too hard to get back to "normal" and thus damaging his voice even further. Then, the more time passed the harder it got to just tell the community about his problem. At the same time he obviously enjoyed helping and managing his girlfriend on creating fun content without being in the spotlight - without any pressure. This is the shift that happened: he started to enjoy the new stuff more and more while creating SC2 content was more and more linked to bad feelings, pain and anxiety over the reaction of the community and to just "fail" again. Incontrol hinted at some mental problems once, which doesn't surprise me at all. He also hinted at Husky's gamer past being a hindrance to success and acceptance in some kind of upper class. Whatever the real reason was (or reasons) for him to delete his SC2 content, this really was a selfish move. It wasn't just his content. It was based around and upon and in interaction with a community and many persons from the pro scene. He deleted moments which were important not only to viewers but to many prominent persons of the SC2 scene who participated in his content. He really kind of stole a big part of the SC2 scene's identity. I understand that sometimes one has to take drastic actions to protect oneself. Perhaps this was necessary for him to deal with the past. And I really think it's great he found a way of being creative that makes him happy. But this doesn't mean it didn't hurt a lot of people. And it doesn't make it the right thing to do. Especially him not acknowledging that his behaviour - even if explainable and understandable - wasn't ideal at all.

You have a lot of real good points, I think it's kinda sad he deleted his channel, but at this point it was more like dragging attention away from newer StarCraft content (from creators that are actually active and passionate about the game now), and attracting a bunch of negative comments like those we saw in his newer videos. I think a big part of why he just deleted it after a while was to really let people know that this was over, people would be always hoping for him to come back, I think, like he needed closure. I don't know what inControl hinted at, when or why, but since he's not even with us anymore (R.I.P legend), I myself don't wanna bring these points up. A bunch of people are like Husky is a washed up LA rich dude and are judging him for no reason other than his past, and he did do much good for the community, I wish people could just let him live his life. If you don't wanna watch, what do you get out of just leaving a negative comment like "I don't wanna hear you speak anymore"? Like wtf is wrong with this people, seriously

Ultimately, it's his channel. He can do what he wants with it. I think if you've ever been a content creator, you will take offense at anyone telling you want you can and can't do with stuff you fundamentally created. A KZbin channel belongs only to the person who created it, thinking otherwise is being entitled. You can feel sad, but you can't blame the creator. As a compromise, he could have warned people he would be deleting his channel and give people a chance to save things they wanted to save, but he's not obligated to do that either, either legally OR morally.

​@@EsportsStoryteller I don't think he knew he was going to quit. He was probably unsure what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. Announcing he was quitting SC2 casting would kinda commit him to that choice. Although that's eventually what he ended up doing, I think for a while he was trying to keep all his options open. Which is his prerogative as a human being trying to make a living. Deleting his channel stung. But as a photographer I understand that he holds the copyright on those videos. He and only he gets to decide what happens to them. If he wants to remove them from public view, that's his choice alone. I had something like 16 of his videos saved on my NAS. When I learned that StarCraft Battle Archive was trying to repost any Husky casting videos they could find, I spent half a year debating whether I should contribute them for the fans, or respect Husky's copyright and keep them out of the public eye. Eventually I decided if he really wanted every single one of his casting videos scrubbed off KZbin, he could always file a copyright claim against SCBA and get them removed. So I went ahead and contributed them. Anyways, I've been through this multiple times with different online gaming communities. I'd make close friends while playing a game. We'd play together every night, have a fun time on forums, sometimes even have RL meet-ups. But then interest in the game wanes, and we all move on to something else (usually each person to a different game). That's life. Cherish the fond memories you had, but accept that that chapter is over.

Starcraft has lost so many influencers over the years and probably contributed to the decline of the game. Husky Starcraft, the largest SC2 only YouTuver. Geoff InControl Robinson, whose personality made every cast hilarious. And of course, TotalBiscuit. Who probably did more for the game than anyone else. I know there's some others as well who were pretty large for the time that left for one reason or another.

This guy single handedly got me into the beauty that is Starcraft 2. Did it suck that he just disappeared? Yes. An update would have been nice. But in the end, it is his life and he doesn't owe us anything. Luckily you can still find a lot of his videos via the archive like his Bronze League Heroes series. Best SC2 caster ever. Luckily, Lowko has risen and become the new Husky imo.

In fairness, he did say in some of his casts before he 1st disappeared that he was diagnosed with some type of throat cancer but he went on casting. Then he suddenly stopped. Husky was one of my major connections to Starcraft. Outside of catching few tournament broadcasts, he was the only SC media personality I tuned into and I watched ALL of his stuff. As a casual player Swarm didn't hit the same like original SC2 did, and with Husky's disappearance Starcraft quickly disappeared from my life too. Maybe he's said something now, but I was pretty disappointed when he had nothing to publicly say about either iNcontroL, or TotalBiscuit's deaths.

I remember Husky well but I was never a fan of his and I would hazard a guess that most people coming over from the BW and WC3 communities felt the same, he was a great hype caster though. He came out of nowhere at the start of the beta and inserted himself into the scene through a lot of hard work and did a lot of good things for the mass of other new SC2 fans, but overall I'm not too surprised he suddenly quit. Still a little surprised though because, come on, you shouldn't leave that many people hanging...

The interesting thing now is that 6 months after this video came out, Husky did indeed return to StarCraft II. So far he is only doing a playthrough of Legacy of the Void's campaigns but maybe, just maybe he is back for good. Only time will tell. And yes, the archiving community did a great job of saving some of Husky's old video. I myself am also a great fan of BLH episode 6 which is featured here.

Husky was a big part of my early teenage years. In fact, alot of the big SC2 personalities around at the time were a big influence on me and actually molded my personality in some ways, so it's weird to see the way he is now. HDstarcraft disappeared also, but at least his channel is still there :S When husky deleted his channel and said "some people won't understand", he was right, I really don't get it. It's not really a satisfying explanation, almost makes me think he's hiding something, or is ashamed of his past :(

I remember that Incontrol(rip) had said in the past that husky had some mental problems and this is why he stepped down, not sure if this holds any true but it is certainly more plausible than the reasons husky gave himself lol. Anyway i wish the guy the best anyhow and people that go out of their way to harass someone just because they don't like their new content or feel butthurt because he just disappeared are terrible to say the least. As of my theory i just believe that he had some traumatic experience or he never genuinely liked sc2 in the first place so he just wanted to erase this part of his life. I also think that there were other reasons. That time casters - especially ones who weren't former pros - got a lot of hate for making more money than players who trained whole day everyday. Husky was a biggest example.

I always enjoyed Husky’s content, and it led me to many other creators. Having all those old casts go away is a really tragic set of circumstances, and I wish he had old hard drives full of them he could dump. However, I had a feeling he was helping his friend Ro; which was exactly what happened. Since I watched as much Husky stuff as I could back in the day, I fully remember him bringing his friends into the fold; as Rosanna, Kurt, and others would appear in random videos. It was really nice to see he started helping her out and ended up having a deeper relationship with her. I just really want some of those old videos back though…

I played SC all the way back since the vanilla release. Brood War I had more logged hours than any other game besides Diablo 2 (most in game time by far). When SC2 came out I was a lot older, and I got it not long after release. I played it a decent amount and then put it down because I wasn't really into gaming any more, I didn't really find laddering to be much fun (wasn't very good), and the campaign didn't take long to beat. Then I randomly found Husky's channel, and I was like, "wait people play this game for money?" I had no idea about the Brood War scene either here or in Korea. So to glimpse this huge scene in the brand new SC2 for me was unbelievable. It got me hooked right away, and now over a decade later I still never fail to miss a GSL. Rip ProLeauge though :( So I can thank him for that, but I am still salty he deleted his videos. It would be nice to go back on occasion and get a nostalgia trip. At least Twitch, has the SC2VODARCHIVES channel to watch the old tourneys.

Husky and HD were how I got into _watching_ esports on KZbin. I had been watching WC3 replays on my own with the "audio commentary" mp3's synced _in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, unpause_ but Husky was a new way to enjoy gaming for me. It felt weird when he just disappeared, but to be honest, I wasn't watching him that much anymore at that point. Looking back, it does feel fake somehow.

I didn't really have internet until I got into college in 2009, being from a very rural area, but I did play starcraft as a kid. When SCII came out, I discovered twitch and started watching tournaments and streamers, and I found his youtube channel. One day I was looking through my subscribed channels, saw his, and didn't recognize anything about the channel. I unsubbed, thinking it was some weird channel I accidentally subbed to, and didn't realize it was Husky from Starcraft until about a year later. Kind of a weird situation for sure.

I used to love husky, but after the long silence and this explanation, honestly he’s dead to me. He’s explanation for shutting down the channels is simply saying “I burn bridges completely, and that’s my personality.” He wouldn’t be where he is right now without his fan base, but he completely abandoned them, and came back with a shitty excuses (maybe he did have a serious medical problem, but he could have simply wrote a post on a blog or Reddit explaining it - honestly that’s why I see this as an excuse) and he isn’t even active on his new channel. From what I see, Husky saw SC2 on a decline, and just decided to leech off his gf’s channel completely. So yea I’m definitely not rooting for him anymore, and will not be involved in whatever he decides to get himself involved with in the future, cuz I know that his “personality” will lead him to abandon his fan base again and again
