Why Did I Buy a Mudmixer ? - How Much Does a Mudmixer Cost? - Tough Decision!
It took me over 2 months to finally make the decision to buy the Mudmixer.
The reason it took so long was the prices: Just over $3,300!
Here are the reasons I did buy the unit:
1. Projects - I have a number of projects coming up that involve concrete.
2. Contractors - Getting good reliable contracts is tough where I live and a single cubic yard of delivered "ReadyMix" is just over $300
3. My Age - I needed to reduce the amount of handling it takes with a regular mixer.
4. Mixer Height - My current mixer is about 18 inches taller than the Mudmixer.

I'm planning on doing some big projects with concrete as soon as I retire the end of November. I plan on sitting my wife down and have her watch this video as it's everything that I could say plus you have the visuals too! Thanks!

My wife usually controls the water adjustment while I load the hopper, Goes real fast. Putting down a couple of cinder bloakcs to stand on helps too.

For me it's about working around my schedule. I hate to depend on other people's schedule as more and more people/companies are becoming less dependable.

I switched to #60 sacks at age 40, too! I'm just about to turn 52 and I have to replace my driveway, and I want to build another patio on the other side of the house. Will be over 30 yards all told. I live in California and I'm not about to pay $50k for a contractor to do my driveway alone, but just didn't think I could do it with my drum mixer in a reasonable enough amount of time. I really want to pull the trigger on one of these. I don't like to order trucks because, like you say, you get killed for a short load. I don't even think they will do it now-a-days. I got a quote from a contractor for $5k just to do the 17' x 5' that is lifted up beside my rec room. I think the mud mixer will pay for itself in that first pour.

I just bought one a couple of months ago for all the same reasons as you. I'm 65 and every year I buy more equipment to help me get back to doing the things that I had stopped doing because it was no longer "fun" doing the sort of projects that I'd been doing for practically my entire life. Another reason is because I can either spend my money on toys to help me stay busy, or hang onto it so that the lawyers, doctors, and taxman will eventually take possession of it when I'm gone.

I fully understand. We have an auction company out here and when I pass they are to be contacted. From going to numerous of their auctions, If the tools are good quality, they will sell at pretty good prices.

Basic roll-around drum mixers can be bought for under $250. Mixer paddles for your power drill are around $60.

No special treatment here either! We will be testing the unit for municipal work (specification work). We waited 3 months to purchase ours. It will be worth it when we have a 40'x40' deck on top of the mountain in Northern Nevada.

Do you think I can do my own ready mix on site with the mud mixer to bring down cost on larger jobs?

Depends on the size of the pour. If a single pour is more than 2 pallets, I would consider a truck.

No were close to a realistic price on something like this, I'd consider it if was around $1000 and had a way to add your own concrete mix without inhaling all the dust. I've got a small scale electric mixer for a fraction of the cost and it's hands down a better design.

By all means bring your design to market. Mudmixer says they have a patent, but I think it is just for the design of the auger as I've seen other mortar mixers with a horizontal auger. I looked at building my own but I simply don't have the time. It's not very complex. My thoughts were to design a laser "Weld-up" kit to remove all the finish and labor costs usin a company like Send Cut Send

I was a Cold War vet. Doesn't mean much but volunteering after watch returning Vietnam Vets get spit on was important to me. Having said that, as a former Aerospace Designer, there are parts I would powder coat, but the main tube, I would hard anodize or make out of stainless steel. Since they didn't, I now coat mine with Fluid Film.
