My 1984 Goldwing Aspencade had linked brakes, currently own 2 1800s. The brakes are linked, but if you use your foot, it gives you more breaking power to the rear tire than the front. And when you use your hand grip, it gives you more braking power to the feon tire than the rear.

Love this bike! My 22 DCT Tour is my 3rd since 84. Nothing is perfect. But it’s perfect for me. Sport mode is a beast. The DCT is on another level. Clutch is from Honda’s sport bikes and very smooth but antiquated when compared with the seamless & quick Formula One DCT. Enjoy!

From Honda: Slipper clutch in our manual-transmission Gold Wings just like our premium sportbikes. It only makes sense-the 1833cc engine delivers tons of power, and the stellar chassis lets you ride this Gold Wing like a sportbike. Also a good Cycle World article by Kevin Cameron in May 10, 2019 regarding the increasing use of Slipper Clutches from sport bikes across the industry. Makes sense. But nothing beats the DCT for off the line performances and in traffic use to name a few are making a DCT more attractive. Live with one and you’ll appreciate the magic. I test rode the new generation Gold Wings back in 2018 both clutch & DCT. Wasn’t thrilled with smaller trunk and thankfully Honda updated the trunk in 21. I wanted a different color than black or red. Saw at the EICMA show an Ultra Blue was being introduced to the US market in 22! That’s what I bought. Have fun my friend.

I’ve ridden but never owned a Harley. I’ve ridden Hondas for quite some time and had a short period, five years with a BMW K75RT. Then Honda ST1300s, some of that pulling a camper. When the ST1300 got a bit too heavy at 77, I was happy to see how easy it is to move around and hold up. It carrys its weight low. Plenty of power and I’ve fit $200 worth of groceries in the bags and trunk of my 2015 GW. Try it, you’ll like it.

I’m a Harley guy. On my 4th Harley. But I do love the looks of the newly designed gold wings. They trying to bring in younger riders and I like that. They are a better touring bike then Harley except for their new CVO ST. As much as I would love to own a gold wing one day I’m just to in love with the looks, sound and vibration I get from a Harley. And the gold wings still don’t look cool enough for me to ride one yet but they getting there. Problem with Harley is you have to dump a ton of money into one to get it comfortable to ride compared to other brands.

Had a 84 wing that I did an Iron butt in 89. Electric smooth. As is the GL1800 with twenty plus years of refinement. Plus it will ZOOM and really handle at speed and slow speed. Albeit the road king is upstanding in parking lot Maneuvers just go to a police competition that will confirm Harleys are the king of slow. Yes The Wing will Eat any Harley. I can relate to your story ... had plenty of fast bikes in my day , but I ride a cherry 86 GoldWing Interstate I bought brand new 37 years ago and I ride it a lot .. I too ride on the highway and interstate mostly and lets face it ... the goldwing is the king of the open road . If you like riding a lot , there is no better .... Its a riders bike for sure ... The newer goldwings look sweet but i wish Honda would quit trying to turn in into a sportwing . I can tell from your camera angle that you dont have as much fairing protection on your legs , hands compared to the older wings . Thats a no beauno for me as I ride my wing in cold weather all they way down to about 40 degrees and prefer cool weather riding , and the older wings are amazing in this regard . i live in the northern states , and those new bikes look like a step back in that department , not something I would expect from a 800 pound touring motorcycle . My 86 weighs in at 700 pounds give or take and that feels heavy , cant imagine a 800-900 pound plus motorcycles that there building today ...

I came off my sixth and last Harley M8 POS Roadking to a new 2018 Wing Tour 6MT bought July of 2019 with one mile on it for $10k off msrp. The Wing is the best boring motorcycle I've ever owned. It is underpowered, the navi, audio and bluetooth are extremely out of date tech wise. But the bike is ok and much better as a 6MT. The slipper/assist clutch is really good. Riding the DCT compounds the boring for me and if you get real aggressive with the DCT it will take over even if your in manual mode sports mode and lock you out if doing aggressive down shifts because the DCT doesn't have a slipper clutch function. Wife likes the Wing and being a small lady it's like she has her own apt. back there. And the Wing does eat miles like a kid eats candy. But not being able to live with Wing alone I went and bought a new MT-09 Hooligan bike for fun and the pure essence of riding. Enjoy your new bike. You will spend money on it like a Harley. All sorts of functional and dress up farkles out there. Enjoy!

Better is subjective though. What makes the Goldwing such an amazing touring machine robs it of some of the character of a Harley. Which means that if you aren’t putting big miles on it, you lose some of the thrill. I don’t ride a Harley, but I ride a naked bike. It’s honestly uncomfortable at 70mph, and I struggle to do more than 100 miles a day. It’s an awful touring machine. @@CharlesHarvey-n6f it isn’t black and white though. There are good things and bad things - in the end I decided the net good outweighed the net bad more so on the Honda than on the HD that I traded in. The reality is I love pretty much every motorcycle I’ve ever ridden. But that doesn’t mean they’re perfect.

I don't know why this was recommended to me by KZbin. Most people understand why you wanted to get rid of a Harley. What we really want to know is: Why did you buy a Harley in the first place?

@@fuglbird oh I enjoyed it for a long time. Loved the feel of the engine. And enjoyed the look of the bike. I still miss it.

On religion, people choose to not invest time into searching the countless miracles that can’t be explained by science. I think people don’t want to be held accountable.

@@josephcontreras3128 that’s just the style of these videos. I’m not an expert on motorcycles by any means. I can tell you what I like and dislike about them but if you’re looking for a breakdown of how the double wishbone suspension works, look elsewhere.

Gold wings are uncomfortable and cramped. If l wanted an Accord. I'd buy one
@docrides

@@robertmountfort6519 I used to think the same thing, funny enough. The dash reminded me a lot of the accord. The 2018+ models don’t seem cramped compared to the HD touring models I’ve ridden. I’m 6’3 and around 240lbs if that helps. I think after having to work on my Harley year after year every time I got it out for the season, I might have wanted that bit of Honda Accord reliability. Having said that - I still have one Harley and would love to pick up something sporty to add to the stable in the future. Maybe a z900se

I respectfully disagree that the human condition is that we have to worship "something". Nice wing, I prefer the less tech laden bikes but maybe one day another wing will be in the garage.
