Shawn is just this way and he's genuine. I know people want that pop star feeling about the artist and from the artist but Shawn is his music and especially lives through it in this new upcoming era. From a pop star standpoint, he's not on top and may have flopped over the years and peaked at Senorita but from a songwriter and artist perspective- he's the most genuine, true, and creative mind. It's just the way Shawn is; he never went to great lengths to be somebody he's not. Most people who are not fans don't like it. to each their own.

“Wonder” didn’t flop. The album still got #1 on the billboards, it was still successful. The only reason why “Wonder” didn’t do as well as his other albums was because, at the time, Island Records lost its CEO which made promotion difficult. AND they promoted the album and released it in 2020, during Covid, during lockdown, there wasn’t really much more they could’ve done promotion wise. On top of this all, Shawn was dealing with major mental health problems (which is why he cancelled his tour in 2022), and probably wasn’t in the right mind to do much promotion for an album. Despite all of this, the album hit #1 on the chats, so it was successful, just not as much as his past 3.

It flopped. The only reason why it went #1 is because there's no competition at the time. All the big albums had been release already. 88k is not really good despite it being #1 .

I absolutely loved this album, especially Dream, but I feel like it was good as a full record, not necessarily good in a "it has a lot of possible singles" way. Also, the hype online was kinda nonexistent outside the fandom. I found it because I was really invested in his music at that time, not because I've heard it from outside sources. The lack of promotion wasn't good, if you think that it was released 4 days before Taylor Swift's Evermore and a week after Ariana Grande's Position. There were people with bigger fandoms who were stealing the spotlight and the overall direction of radio-friendly music was more retro sounding, which he failed to acknowledge. The album wasn't bad in any way, but it wasn't mind-blowing or trendy, so it lost the popularity battle. Also, as you said, Harry and The Weeknd were the main boys and Watermelon Sugar and Blinding lights were everywhere, so there wasn't much space for other male artists.

I see lots of artists in award shows and charts who I couldn’t name even one song of but they obviously have a lot of fans. He has 46.4M monthly listeners on Spotify and almost 72M followers on Instagram. He does ok. I love the Wonder album, it’s still on my playlist.

I’d say imo it’s because there isn’t much growth in his discography like you can play me any song by him and I would not be able to tell you what album it came from because they all blend together so much. Now I will say his first self titled got a bit more interesting with the Camilla collaboration and a song like ‘lost in Japan’ but for me Wonder felt like a creative regression it got boring very very fast which is sad because it felt like it was going to be promising but I heard nothing of it until a month after. As for his new album coming up I’m still not too all excited about it but I’ll give it a listen. I think the only reason people are tuned in a bit is because he said something about a pregnancy scare in the first single for it so there’s that.

honestly the music realsed by artists being on top lists is not even music for me, what SWAHN MENDES has is true music which maybe less appreciated coz ppl are more into baseless pop music these days, but nevermind the album was great and the upcoming music and album has really shown the growth in his music WHICH IS HEART TOUCHING PERIODT.

@pulspectrum For your information, he´s headliner in Rok In Rio (september 22) and sold tickets in 35 minutes. His 4 albums have been number 1 Bb. Now he is not interested in numbers, he´s on a return journey and taking care of his health, so some people scoff that he does not look like he is. He´s a true artist and has vocal and lyrical quality. He´s very good at performing on tours and fortunately he´s successful entrepreneur!

I agree on almost all your points. Shawn is not the sweet teenage 15 - 18year old boy anymore who attracts the really young fans with his kind of great but clean pop music. He used to be a one member boy band (and I mean that in a positive way!) Kind of filling the gap after One Direction and before BTS. Now he is older and so are his fans. But his music doesn’t reflect that. It didn’t grow up with him and his fans. As it doesn’t fit him anymore it feels shallow, uninspired and generic like everyone could sing it. It’s not „Shawn wants to tell us something that is truly him and important to him for us to know.“ His now grown up fans - and maybe even new people he could attract as a grow up artist - want more in a musician than a super clean image, a pretty face and a really good voice (which he clearly has!). I wouldn’t call it „he needs a bad boy era“. Bc as we see with artists like Harry Styles and Ed Sheeran „being a bad boy“ is absolutely not necessary anymore. Quite the opposite is true fortunately true nowadays. People instead want someone who is also kind and positive BUT - as you rightly put it - positively edgy! An artist with uniquness, who has something to say and who stands for something. Like Harry or Cold Play do. Taylor is a good example for that change from non edgy clean to someone who stands up for things that are imported to her. I think Shawn unfortunately - and therefore his music too - lacks personality or better said his public persona does. Maybe his management desperately wants him to be still this clean imaged pop boy as you put it because he used to bring in the cash like that. Maybe Shawn himself can’t or doesn’t want to give anything more. Or - as you said - he wants to stay more low key like for example Zayn Malik does. Which would be absolutely fine. Not everybody is made for worldwide stardom and the downsides that come with it. In interviews Shawn sadly comes across as someone who takes himself way to serious and a bit boring as he seems to not want to risk not being likeable to everyone (which is simply not possible) and even more sad as if he is not enjoying what he does anymore. Last but not least he looked unhappy and unhealthy lately, which is obviously never a good sign 😔. I hope he finds HIS way. The way he wants to present himself to the world. Above all I hope he is happy and healthy … or at least will be very soon.

I don't understand the title of this movie. Shawn is really good. They will start their career, as they say "From a high C" so later it is difficult to constantly be at the top and there is no need for it. (A similar case to the very good director Mathieu Kassovitz.) SM is a "complete artist" (young, talented, has a beautiful voice, great appearance, athletic, handsome). He's really talented and he can handle it. Don't pretend to be worried about him. According to industry insiders, they will come back to his music because it is good. He has many hits to his credit. And he's doing well in a world where musical tastes are determined by TIKTOK or pseudo experts on YOU TUBE. quote: "He is a true artist." Good luck.

I feel like why wonder didnt perform as well as other albums is because only a couple of its songs were made into music videos compared to his self titled album, "If I Can't Have You", "In My Blood", "Nervous" "Lost in Japan" really helped as when people would listen to them it'll be more likely to lead them to the non music video songs on the album

He is sweet and what his fans liked about him mainly was him being online and "close" to his fans, other than that hes quite boring/doesn't have this certain star quality & now that he distanced himself from social media, which is fair and understandable, but makes him just less interesting for his fans. the new album is underwhelming and even this love triangle thing they are trying to push right now just screams pr and still also is boring, the only good thing out of it are sabrinas songs. 💯 true. Harry has something to say and is not afraid to be positively edgy and have a laugh about himself. Plus he radiates charisma and energy. Witch is rar and can’t be taught. Shawn seems to be much more shy and reserved by nature. Which is fine. He just has to be himself and find an audience which likes that. But this audience is normally not the same one that he used to (have to) attract.
