WHY DID @The King of DIY not test it? *carbon cube* (never clean your aquarium again?) *

We all saw @theKingofDIY talk about the carbon cube block that says it can clean your aquarium and get rid of all impurities in 24 hours. I put that to the test!
No shade on the King of DIY (he is awesome) just wanted to see him test this product since he did purchase one.

Also. You could wrap it in a poly pad and put it in a high flow sump and I bet it would work. It’s basically a giant carbon block Or put it in a course filter sponge powered by an air stone

I found this thing at a shop near me and got it to try it out in a tank in my school lab (I teach junior high science). The tank is set up as a river bank ecosystem and the water is always kind of greenish. I know there are water additives I could add, but the goal is a more natural tank with a more natural load of microorganisms in the water including algae. Tossed the cube in and my water is much more clear. I didn't change anything else on the filtration system (there is a solids filter that flows into a container of activated charcoal and little white stone rings for bacteria to colonize and do their work on). My water was never whitish like in this video, so I'm guessing the cube is good at dealing with SOME issues, but not all. I have another tank that has gone completely green over a long weekend due to a power out completely throwing my light timers off. I think I'll get another cube and do a more proper test in it.

It's a big eyesore in the tank. Looks awkward not in balance with tank. Your lucky the fishes are still alive. Correct me if I'm wrong but i believe carbon absorbs impurities in the water so the myth of it getting crystals clear water u will need a water polishing filter just like in home drinking water systems that have a prefilter to remove suspended debris before carbon blocks. However I'm not sure but i think once the carbon have been saturated with impurities it slowly leeches it out back into aquarium so long term usage is not recommended. You can try all kind of fancy gadgets but Nothing beats doing regular water changes.

I think if they were to cut it into square slivers we would be able to put them in hang on the back filters even canister filters but with the way it is now it can only be used in a sump

Activated carbon is a membrane to absorb chemicals, ie chlorine. Etc. it’s not a clarifier.

I have a tank with green water... i had been trying to figure out how to make it not green... but idk its just green, its outside so it gets natural sun light and it has snails and shrimp and 1 guppy. Maybe ill order it and set it up with a hang on back filter...? I feel it would work that way

This is nonsense, these cubes are used to take tannins and phenols (yellow/green tint) out of aquarium water and do 100% work proven from my own person experience! First of all, you didn’t leave it in there long enough and like you said, your tank doesn’t look like it has enough flow to send the water through the cube to cleanse.. Secondly, your supposed to place the cube on it’s side to allow the water to properly flow through! The bubbles are normal as it’s the air escaping from inside the structure. I tried this cube out and it made my water SO clear I use it all the time now!

I’m glad you had a good experience but I was testing based on their claims that you drop it in the water do nothing and it works. This company even used my footage to promote their product(without consent) I appreciate your input, but I was testing for advertisement truthfulness and there was none.

@@GuppyGuru I had the same good outcome with green water. I don't have my box (and it was labeled in Chinese because I live in Taiwan) but I might test out another one on a different tank. I think the labeling is off target. I'll have to get one of my students to read it for me.

This is definitely not a replacement for regular maintenance. You don’t even clean water you just simply replace it when it’s over saturated with anything. It would semi work for polishing if water could be pumped through it though but man it looks terrible.

The only reason it bubbles is because of the trapped air in it when dropped in; it you presoak it in water the drop it in the tank it won't bubble like that.
