Under perform? How? Thye went to 2 top Euorpean sides homes and came back with 4 points. And all that with missing thier ENTIRE starting front line and Macario. Emma also experimented with very young players at the Hague. I thought they did well, with room for improvement, but to call it under performing considering who went, I don't agree with that at all. I will say, Horan's issue with heavy first touches continues. I have blogged about since 2 years ago. It's called a "hiccup" in Spanish. That very first touch that leads to a turnover or being pressed immediately in hopes for a bad pass or nervousness. Horan's case of that is pretty bad. Also, Lavelle's lack of speed really slows down the US attack. I really like Ryan and Thompson's pace.

England were also missing their entire front line through injuries Lauren Hemp, Ella toon, and Lauren James. England didn’t even use all their top four defenders Millie Bright sat out the whole game. England players made their debut that game also. The Netherlands were also missing players. USA fans seem to live in their own bubble and take no notice of other teams.

@@Evocati2008 The Netherlands were missing Miedema, Pelova, Egurrola etc. The USA played with many of their starters Naeher, Girma, Davidson, Fox, Nighswonger, Coffey, Lavelle, and Horan. Certainly wasn’t playing with their C team.

@@SarahDilley-dy7ci Wrong. Krueger starts over Nighswonger, Davidson's spot is up for grabs (Sonnet and Gaetino share time as well) and by everyones metrics, Macario would start over Lavelle. The US is much deeper and has a talent pool second to none, with maybe only Spain close to it. The US was experimenting with very young players, some making thier int'l debuts. But you know this...

To label those who have questions about Banda's eligibility in a women's league does not make them all racist or misogynist. She was found to be ineligible by the African Football federation at some point. The discussion is far more nuanced and complicated. And it brings to mind the sad and tragic story of Caster Semenya , Dominant South African track star who was genotypical XY but phenotypically a woman and was raised and identified as a woman. But hormone testing found very high testosterone levels because she has internal male genitalia which is typical for those with differences of sexual development (DSD). IF these folks have working androgen receptors , they have the benefits of the Y chromosome, significantly higher testosterone with stronger, faster muscles, tendons and all the other clear physical advantages of being male. Some of this is evident watching Banda tear through the NWSL and at times leaving defenders in a heap of pain. She is a great footballer but are her remarkable physical advantages due to having a Y chromosome? If so is that fair to the women who are XX and do not have those benefits? There is a reason the USWNT looses to the men's U15 team. No doubt Banda is a women and raised as a women but we do testosterone and other androgen testing for a reason. Higher testosterone levels provide significant benefits. Does it matter or should it matter if she has naturally high levels that are due to her genetic makeup of XY, her internal testicles? These are valid questions and frankly should be sorted out by FIFA at a much earlier stage. and in a manor to maintain the dignity of the athlete regardless of their genetic makeup. This was not the case for Caster Semenya who was treated very poorly by the international track federation and dealt with numerous contradicting rulings often forcing her to suppress her hormones to acceptable female levels and finally banned. But these are not clear cut cases and FIFA always handles things inconsistently without clear rules.

Jenna plays as left back for one and a half years. I think this season her lack of defensive capabilities got exposed with more film on her and she hit this slump. Unlike Crystal Dunn, who could rely on her pace to recover when her positioning was off, Jenna doesn’t seem to have the same speed to make up those crucial extra yards. Plus, she doesn't have physicality. This puts added pressure on her defensive instincts and skills, which need to be at an elite level for her to thrive in this role as a smaller player. The left back position is clearly wide open, and I’m still pulling for Jenna-there’s plenty of time for her to develop and make her mark, her crossing ability is amazing. But it's a big hole for her to climb out, because she's now is viewed as the weak point and is the nr. 1 target.

Weird that the discussion about the midfield ignores Emma's own explanation of the tactical shift in the second half in her postgame presser. Specifically, that they went to a back three and pushed five into the midfield. Weird especially considering the observation of Albert "running between four orange jerseys" - a pretty clear sign of being outnumbered in the midfield. Emma certainly said they were in the first half. It is a weird dynamic trying to find players to scapegoat, without discussing their responsibilities - not unique to this video. For example, Albert had more tackles and clearances than Coffey - in roughly thirty fewer minutes. Perhaps she should have had way more, given her role in the system, but worth at least discussing that... When Meg says that Emma is going to spend all her time reviewing this film, that is undoubtedly true. They grade every player's performance against her tactical responsibilities. If those grades don't match the vibes-based conventional wisdom, will we get another round of "Why is Emma so stubborn?" analysis? If you look at the Sofascore ratings (which have their own limitations, of course), you find Albert rated higher than Coffey, Fox, Nighswonger, Horan, Lavelle, Shaw - and DvD (the praised Dutch star). So, it isn't crazy to think the USWNT coaching staff might come to different conclusions removed from the vibes of the moment.

Korbin Albert is a very good midfielder, she's not the problem. People don't agree with her beliefs so they criticize her playing, unfoundedly I might add.

Too much hate for Korbin Albert. She was not the reason for the poor performance. The Netherlands came out firing and the US was not ready. Jenna Nighswonger was a huge breakdown. The left side defence fell apart every time she got burned. That side was a gimme for the Netherlands to get the ball in front of the goal or get a corner shot. When Sonnet was brought in the 2nd half and Tierna Davidson was on the outside, the Dutch no longer had any easy time. Nobody brings up Jaedyns Shaws performance or lack of. She didn't create, she didn't stretch the defence. Aside from the goal she scored against Iceland she hasn't shown anything on the field. Against Argentina she was taller and bigger than the defenders but she couldn't hold on to the ball. She's not very fast. I could see Yazmeen Ryan taking her spot on the team. Yazmeen has shown she belongs on this team. The Netherland players were great in the 1st half. They're tall, fast and they were playing like this was the World Cup. Even Rose Lavelle who is a great player couldn't get past the defender and she was doubled team almost immediately. Had Nighswonger not been in the game from the beginning, having Sonnet or Krueger in there, this game would have looked totally different. Lily Yohannes didn't show anything in this game. Yes, she had the header that gave the ball to Yazmeen Ryan but what else did she do. Nothing. She was timid, maybe because she was playing against her former teammates but she will have to show more to make this team.

They didn’t underperform the matches were friendlies and meant for both sides to see how their personnel and tactics performed. Even if the US lost it wouldn’t affect FIFA rankings that much.

The team doesn’t have any major competitions coming up. This should be an experimental time in the cycle. This is when they should “underperform”, mind you they drew with the number 2 team in the world and beat a very feisty Dutch squad with no triple espresso.

Nwsl want to nurture stories around American players. So that's triple expresso and anyone on the uswnt. That's the #1 priority. #2 is Marta. #3 is everyone else. I don't know what these "protections" from online abuse look like. Are you asking for nwsl to provide psych counseling? Every team has a psychologist available. Are you asking nwsl to provide a statement the way orlando made a statement for Banda? Like what are you asking for?

When teams sit in low/mid block and let us have time on the ball our current midfield (Coffey, Horan, Lavelle + Korbin ) can hang. However, when teams crowd midfield and play with high-intensity they get cooked. Against Netherlands we rolled out the same midfield like in the final against Brazil and in both games similarly we got absolutely outrun in the first half, opponents had so many chances. Thanks to Naeher and their lack of better finishing we survived both games. But also Coffey, Horan, Lavelle were starting in the all other Olympic games and while this midfield looks good on paper, they never really performed good. I would say Coffey did her thing the most.

Best response to hate speech is to never give it oxygen to live. Most folks who post stuff like that do it to get a rise from others online. Ignore them like you ignore a screaming toddler having a meltdown that isn't yours, keep an eye on them but do not engage. ANd OMG Twitter is mainly techbros, incels and MAGAs get off from there.
