Mine is stuck flashing red at “high” heat setting. After 5 years of daily use, it finally gave out. I was hoping you can help me fix it 😅

I had the exact same pad fail the same way. I spent a good while trying to figure out the problem, and never did. But at least I did have the correct weird screwdriver 😝

Ha, Another video perhaps? I love taking apart other peoples stuff. Maybe even put it back together.

Not sure it was obvious but the cable in modern heating pads will have a wire meant to get hot and a wire to break it:-) The break it wire is there because people complained about loved ones burning to a crisp in house fires. I forget exactly how it works but it seems like maybe it is made of a material that breaks from repeated bending before the warming wire might break and begin arcing. It may also or may instead melt easily if there is a hot spot or act to signal a short. It may not be a bad idea but I think it may have been seen as an excuse to lower overall quality since fire is less of a danger or build in more planned obsolescence. In any case, my mom seems to have to buy herself one or two per winter which is why I've explored the guts. If you don't' mind burning down the house, it might not be difficult to spoof a working safety wire, haven't tried because I am pretty sure I don't like burning to death. However, the warming cable inside can potentially find new low voltage use where fire isn't an issue. I had trouble with my telescope optics freezing over so used calculated a reasonable length to use at 12V and now it just dews over:-) Seriously it did help most nights.

Mine failed with the flashing F. I bought another identical one and ohmed it out. 68 ohms across the outer pins, 38 ohms across the inner two pins.

This doesn't even qualify as a teardown; I guess it could be called a "Rip-It"! Try this on a fullsize heating blanket and you'd have to call it a "sheet-y" disassembly! 😉😁

Yes they have a limited lifespan, especially if they are folded or rolled up.

Mine lasted 5 years of daily use. Walgreens brand. But it was luck cuz the other Walgreens brand I had before lasted less than a year 😅

I just got one...maybe a month or two ago...I actually used it for a bit but ended up running it through my front load washer as it said it waas washable....then let it air dry... It still works. I'm careful not to roll it up or bend it... I use a heating pad to stay warm... I actually think they work better than electric blankets...I registered mine on the site. It says it has a 5 year warranty... don't think for a second when/if it goes out i'll be calling for a new one.
