Tim Mack is one of the most talented bowlers we have ever seen and is probably the greatest amateur bowler of all time. However, his success as an amateur never translated to the pro tour and even though he won 70+ titles as an amateur, he never managed to win a PBA title.
In this video we are going to look at Tim Mack’s career including his attempt at making it on the pro tour and discuss what stopped him from winning on the PBA tour.

I think it's OK that Mack never won a title because everyone knows he was talented. He doesn't need to prove anything. His reputation speaks for itself.

You can say the same thing about JJ. It's great to see his great success on the senior tour in such a short amount of time.

Tim came to Mexico a few years back, very amicable person, really liked that. I cant say that about PDW tho, kinda cold person and kept distance with people he didnt know.

To be honest I live in St. Louis and have bowl many leagues and tournaments against Pete and he is the most down to earth superstar (because that what he is prob the best bowler we will ever witness he dad was number 2 period) I can say personally he will drink a beer with you and shoot the shit who else professional u think would do that ?

These "amateurs" like Tim Mack, Rudy Revs, Chris Barnes, Robert Smith, and Patrick Allen, were making more money as amateurs than their PBA counterparts up to the mid/late 1990s when the prize funds for megabucks tournaments were starting to fade - one of the reasons these guys started bowling PBA events. Only thing Tim Mack probably did "wrong" was stay as an amateur a couple years too long. But he probably did because PBA bowling was on the brink of death in the mid 1990s culminating with losing their national network broadcast with ABC and the number of tour stops shrinking year after year. Also, around 2000 the PBA Tour was bought by former Microsoft execs headed by Chris Peters, and were infusing money into the tour while bringing more "tech" to the telecast like ball speed, rev rate, and ball path, as well as oil pattern.

He was def the greatest amateur. If I had to guess, beating up on his body earlier in life when he played college football likely contributed to the compounding long term issues as well.

Kinda like amateur boxers that didn't do well in the pros, like Howard Davis or Tyrell Biggs, who didn't last long. Or great college players in football or basketball who didn't do as well in the pros. Wow shoulder injury and 7 knee surgeries. That's rough dude.

Look up Gordy Baer. Saw him shoot 840 in league back in the early 80's and had the high average at the Nationals for years.

He was absolutely amazing. There was a time when he was top 5 or 10 in the world, amateur or pro. I was at a tournament with all the best east coast bowlers when he shot 834, I think there were only 3 or 4 700 series in qualifying. I asked what happened to him on a bowling forum a few years back, didn't sound like he had an enjoyable life. Was sad to hear that.

I read that Tim Mack was from Indiana? I bowled in Indiana for 35 years and never heard of him. I bowled with Kenny Parks, Mark Millsap, Joe Ello, all great amateurs.
