Look, nobody liked the idea of the whippin' but this guy made Barnabas a tad more realistic--he had to struggle constantly with the beast within. There was a huge difficulty to hold back the urge to exercise self-preservation because as a vampire it is an animal instinct. That sadder scenes were where he couldn't reach out to those he loved because of what could happen.

I absolutely HATED that they turned Willie into a spineless, brainless moron in the revival. One of my many peeves about the 1991 show. This scene was nothing more than a rehash of Barnabas' brutal beating of Willie in House of Dark Shadows. As a matter of fact, the first two episodes were basically a scene-to-scene remake of that film (with a few alternations here and there). Frankly, I was rooting for Barnabas to get staked after the 2nd episode in the revival, not to be however.
