It's worth noting that model railroading has touched multiple fanbases. You can see it in the Lego community as well.

“Do you remember the first time you saw a train roar past? Or the day you finally got to ride on one? All kids love things that go, which is why kids love Thomas the Tank Engine. Because the world of Thomas opens a door to adventure, Where trains are more than trains, they’re like having friends over” This quote just makes me love the older season more and more
@calebc.22902 жыл бұрын
Well spoken mate, took the words right out of my mouth. You’ve explained why I love this show very well, but there’s one more thing that still makes this community out shine all the rest. Let me ask you this, can you name another fandom that can recreate their show as good as ours? genuine question.
@railwaysparrow2 жыл бұрын
Nothing comes to mind, Trainz and wooden railway are a god send for creators.
@TankEngine_122 жыл бұрын
That last question really shows how not only talented our fanbase is, but also dedicated to the creation. The Disney Pixar Cars fandom could easily recrate the movies and shorts with the large variety of toys released, but they don't. I suppose that's because there wasn't a bad time for Cars tho, unlike Thomas, with quite a few bad eras.

This video certainly made my day. Thomas is my favourite preschool show, it’s such a charming show and it’s fandom always inspires me. Even with its duds, this franchise always finds a way up. This fandom is so talented in so many ways. The stories they make are so fun and charming, I honestly wouldn’t mind if the show adapted some of them into episodes. I’m also a railway modeller and I have several ideas for modelling Thomas. Keep up the fun content ;)
@22Tesla2 жыл бұрын
A very good video, my own theory on why folks love modeling these characters (along with what you said) is partly the ability to be a part of the show back in those classic model years. I LOVED seeing Sodor's landscapes, and when I would play with my toys, I would move my head around while playing with them, to mimic the camera pans and moves. It was like I got to be a part of the show, making these stories come to life, I was just a little kid and yet I felt part of something SO much bigger! As I grew older, I kept pursuing my skills. I wanted so badly to make the models real, to make the sets, bring them to life. My simple imagination was good but I could never share it. I look at my toys on a desk, I see a busy railyard with sidings, buildings, workers, and smoke and steam rising everywhere. Anyone else just sees toy trains on a desk. Slowly I improved my skills, honing them in, learning techniques from other scratch builders (first true skill thing I made was a face using thomasfan8's modeling techniques for replicating Thomas faces in clay). Now I model my trains in Blender and Tinkercad, and print them out for folks to purchase online, and I write my own stories of course. Of course, KZbin helps make sharing my visions possible. What I see is what the others will see. My imagination made real. And trying to so all this helped me learn how the show was made which gave me a love of film making as I wanted to learn how it was done since the models look nice, but the camera moves bring it to life. That's my story of why I love this silly little show for pre-schoolers. It's molded my life and my hobbies, and I'll neevr forget this show for it.

Hey I really liked your Zero: Untold Story of Timothy movie. I know its unrelated to your comment but I watch it a lot and its really cool.
@sericsmith57706 ай бұрын
TBH, it's far from being a silly little show for pre-schoolers, at least if you look in the right places, and these are usually the good years of the show, when it was for all ages, and when it kept to the author's vision as intended. This is one of the reasons why the reboot will never be remembered in the same way, that and Mattel's horrible marketing strategy.

thomas and friends isnt exactly a fandom i've been _that_ invested in. but you could say i've always been close to it. TTTE was part of my lifeblood as a kid and i still have several dozen relics of the blue train's legacy. i haven't really ever been an active member of the community (until recently with my newfound account after years of just being an anon). but. while yes there are subtle pockets of weirdos (or "steamies" as coined by project g-1). it overall seems like a pretty nice hospitable place. i would like to try my hand at making and adapting stories whether official. fanmade. or my very own someday. looks fun. feels fun. just seems like a blast to do and if others enjoy it. hey! there you go. it's weird to think about how. what most people might just see as "the funny little blue train series" actually houses a nice welcoming fandom for the most part. admittedly im... not too proud of still being a distant member of the community. i know its not the most well-respected fandom in some parts of the internet. but that says more about them than you or i. he's the really useful engine we all adore and that's what he shall remain as in my head.

One good way to get an idea of how dedicated a fandom is is to take a look at its wiki. I don't think anyone from outside the Thomas fandom would expect the Thomas the Tank Engine Wiki to have _over twelve thousand_ pages.

This is just something I wanted to say but couldn't fully during premiere chat, so be prepared for an essay-ish on Thomas, its effect on me, and the community and me. Thomas the Tank Engine is really important to me and holds a special place in my heart. The community is also one of those. Ever since finding Tenders for Henry on KZbin, I've been watching and creating TTTE Content for years. (Maybe not the creation part, but nontheless, its still really important to me.) If it weren't for the community, I wouldn't have found the best friends I really enjoy hanging out with. I may be a small person in the TTTE community, but even so, its still really important to me. Ever since that one KZbin recommendation in 2010 or 2011, my life has changed for the better. I've met many cool people, I've seen many cool people, I've followed many cool people, etc etc. Thomas had a positive effect on me because its entertaining, enjoyable, and, in my opinion, _beautiful and charming._ Now, about the community, yes it has its ups and downs, but I think its a really good community with lots of talented people. To list a few examples; The Unlucky Tug, who makes models on the engines, makes excellent content, and is overall a really cool guy. The LBSC Thomas, who, ironically, is one of my cousins and an excellent modeller. The list goes on. There may be controversies in the community (VT RTRD Drama, NSFW, etc) but if you don't focus on that, the community is friendly, fun, enthusiatic, and more I don't know how to describe. TL:DR, TTTE, its community, its creator, and its content is very important to me.

I grew up with Thomas. The Model Seriese was my favourite. All the theme's,all the life lessons and morals. My first Thomas toy was a Take & Play Thomas. The CGI seriese was OK and entertaining at the same time. The RWS Books introduced me to more characters I have never heard of. The Reboot made me sad. It wasn't the Thomas I was used to watch. But I understand,kids today aren't like we were in the past. At least we have the fans that make movies seriese that are interesting and fun but sometimes cringy to watch.

My first toy was either a TM1 Henry or a TWR fergus that I got from a library with a fish tank when I was a kid (it was lying on a table and it was just a play area, and my pre-preschool me asked my mom who asked the librarian woman who said yes) I have a distinct memory of watching “snow” as a TM1 Henry and some classic trucks go around on a rounded-squarelike shape track raised with the risers
