I do this with angel numbers. Always checking the clock to see what kind of message god or the universe is providing me. I know that this is illogical and most likely not true and yet my mind still does it, it’s hard for me to look at the clock and just see it as the time of day. OCD is hell, whoever is going through a similar thing I want you to know that you are strong, and you are not crazy. We will all get through this!

YES OMG. Every time I look at the clock, it always happens to be 11:11 and I internalize that angel number with my OCD or sometimes I’ll look away from the clock

I can relate to the clock too. Because I have assigned meaning to certain numbers and as you all know it is pure torture. Currently dealing with "a deal" I made by "saying/thinking yes" to a thought when I saw the "bad number".. if anyone can relate please share. Thank you and stay strong - we WILL get through this.

I am blown away, I thought I was alone with this. The angel number thing has become an obsession. I hate the idea of being controlled by something outside myself so I avoid doing anything on days with the date that is an angel number that’s significant to me.

I have to do things of a certain number but not because something bad will happen. It’s just an urge. The only thing that I can think of that it started in college art classes with “odd numbers or 1/3rds are better for a composition” and my birthday is July 5. But I never thought of being in danger of something. Maybe “odds are better for composition” might be of it’s not it’s not good enough?

Strange that your brain attaches anxiety to numerology. At no point in evolution have numbers posed a threat. Cavemen who had very limited understanding of numerology would never have had these 'fears' about numbers. Their anxiety would center around being eaten by a wolf or bear ect. Real world dangers. OCD conflates with other psychological explination like 'fight or flight responses' or the 'snake brain'. It simply can't be an explination for OCD behaviours.

My answer to that would be that most mental illnesses are based off of the culture and environment of the time. The things that may become obsessions nowadays for OCDers would naturally be part of the environment and culture of the time. Whereas what an OCDer would develop an obsession about 1000 years ago would be different simply because of time, place and culture.

@@qwerty82822 could be that our natural brain is struggling to adjust to our very unnatural sedentary life styles. It's certainly true that media create or produce unnatural fears or anxieties which we simply did not have before.
