Yesterday I came across a Panasonic Villager II at a big box thrift store. I knew nothing about the bike other than it had a Japanese lugged steel frame, and that was enough for me to pay the slightly more than free price to take it home. That drivetrain is a little goofy, but swap it out for a regular crank and you've got a super solid bike. Steel is real!

I have been fixing bicycles as a hobby for over 20 years and I can say Panasonic Villager 3 are Great bicycles as a matter of fact I just restored one this week and it rides beautiful.Easy sell @$170. I paid 0 I found it in the Streets probably a Hipster that went to bicycle shop and they gave them a ridiculous price to fix it and it was a 4 hour job.He discarded it and it was my find now someone else will enjoy it here in the Streets of N.Y.C

SHIMANO “POSITRON” - at least the ones that I remember- was a very early version of indexed shifting.

Two years ago. I bought a male Panasonic ten speed in this color too for a $1.75. It was a thrift shop for dogs. Total worth it even if the wheels are a little bent.
