Why Did People In Star Wars Use Blasters Instead Of Normal Guns?
As we discussed in yesterday's video and in my video on the best way to defeat a Jedi, regular guns or slugthrowers as they're known in the star wars galaxy, were highly effective against lightsaber wielders. Upon contact with a Lightsaber, slugs would melt, sending molten metal straight into the face of the Jedi. So if slugthrowers were so much more effective at fighting Jedi, why were blasters the most common weapons in the galaxy?
First of all, blasters were much more practical from a logistical perspective, especially for large armies. From one relatively small blaster gas canister, some blasters could fire over 500 blaster bolts. Not only was blaster ammunition much easier to carry, they were also significantly cheaper, a major advantage in a long and drawn out war.
Most importantly though, bullets were simply not powerful enough. Relatively low quality armour could stop a slug while even modern armour failed to stop blaster bolts. If an army had armed themselves with slugthrowers, the opposing force would simply have to equip themselves with cheap armour to become impervious to their attacks.
However, even with armour, blaster bolts' effects on the body were catastrophic, with the gruesome details of their lethal effectiveness discussed at length in this video.

I don't know why inquisitors don't use ranged weapons more they aren't part of the Jedi so they wouldn't have any issues about it being a purely offensive weapon and think about how devious that would be to get a Jedi and a saber locked and just whip out a pistol and shoot him in the heart Point Blank while his blade is already engaged and he can't defend. Also when fighting normal people if a force-sensitive were to use a blaster or a slug thrower it would be real life Aimbot with the force

We can assume most armor was either as effective as earth armor or highly superior, as there is a variety of available specially designed composites and metals. Blasters were significantly more effective at delivering the stopping power for less recoil and lower cost than their equivalent slug thrower calibers. Sure, a .50 cal bmg could totally pierce stormtrooper armor, but at that rate, you might as well carry around a blaster with the power to blow up a squad.

Okaaaay....but literally all _Star Wars_ media apart from Episode I & Episode II and The Clone Wars (but only the seasons that aired on Cartoon Network) and Rebels is rated PG-13. As are all MCU movies and shows. The original trilogy movies weren't rated PG-13, but that's only because the PG-13 rating didn't exist yet in the 1970s & 1980s, everything was either G, PG, or X and the only films that were rated X were pornos. In a real situation one of the best reasons would be fire suppression. It was lightly talked on in this but if one Cartridge can hold 500 shots then you can gain a massive fire suppression advantage over the enemy. Many modern militaries use this to then reposition troops mid battle, this would allow troops to move not only larger distances but more strategically as well. You wouldn’t have to rely on your squad automatic weapon gunner to lay down suppressive fire for the other squad to move and reposition to then switch and so on, any troop would be capable of laying down large scale continuous fire to keep the enemy behind cover. The advantage this would give against for example modern day weaponry cannot be understated

Another crucial factor is that the Jedi were still relatively rare, so carrying a weapon that shot physical projectiles in case a Jedi was met would be the equivalent of carrying Saarlak repellant just in case you fell in a pit.

@@guacolea Lasers and blasters are more energy weapons, thought they have a small physical shell inside it is deflected by a lightsaber because the shell is magnetized to keep the plasma of the blaster shot in one area and the lightsaber can deflect that. A regular slug round is what I meant by a physical projectile.

@@andrewgreeb916 "Bullet Proof" Ceramic armor is supposed to last as long as the plate can hold. Once the Plate Shatters, the wearer is doomed. It's also why the plates are held in a Harness and are supposed to be easy to remove from the harness. Once the Plate Cracks, you need to replace it.

to my knowledge, in regards to seemingly tame blows dispatching the imperial military with relative ease, it's much more likely that the overwhelming majority of soldiers survive their afflictions and are just unconscious, likely due to shock. furthermore, stormtrooper armor in particular is designed in such a way that it tenses up in order to protect the wearer from otherwise fatal attacks, rendering that particular soldier unable to move for the time being, which is eerily similar to how Armor Lock functions in the Halo franchise.

Well the difference is that an arrow is shear and puncture damage which is more effective against armours and irl arrows can go through some ballistic glass. it’ll stop it but still go through the glass. compared to a bullet which is impact force so the energy distribution is wildly different.

You can even see in the one panel shown that it basically incinerates the bullet and it's only the ones that go off the side that cause problems and they don't do nearly the damage a real gun would do nor as a blaster shot that hits. There are a couple of other points : Bullets don't work in space or low gravity environment, while blasters do. The glow of the blaster fire acts as tracer rounds in real life, they are easier to see, therefore you have a better idea where to aim, especially in dark.

@@outdoorscholar6016 At the end of the Clone Wars, when the Empire was born and actively hunting the Jedi, they had a HUGE army they'd have to massively downsize for peacetime. They didn't care how many clones died fighting Jedi with ineffective weapons, they cared about the element of surprise. Remember, we only see TWO survivors of the purge in the original films, so though we didn't get to see it we could assume it was pretty thorough. When the prequels came out we DID get to see it, and it WAS thorough. There's lots of Jedi survivors in the expanded universe, so there's lots of anti-Jedi forces (ha) used by the Empire in the EU. That's basically fine, it doesn't break canon or anything, but we don't see them in the films because those elements of the setting were added AFTER the films were made.

The materials in that galaxy are different. The clones armour and the stormtroopers armour is made of a blaster resistant composite. This basically means that bullets would do much less, as they won't pierce armour. Bullets would be only useful against jedi as they don't typically wear armour

The kinetic energy of a 5.56x45 NATO round would be just as effective as the heat of a blaster bolt due to the amount of velocity of a rifle. And even if it didn’t pierce stormtrooper armor, a headshot would snap a stormtrooper’s neck the moment it hits the helmet. Honestly I think it’s more so of an innovative standpoint. If you think about it, blasters don’t really need ammo, they have basically no recoil, and they can be seen as more “humane” since they don’t cause major bleeding. They also have stun and kill settings. Plus, with it being a sci-fi series they definitely fit in more.
