What’s your favorite organization in SMA? Let us know!

Libros para Todos. They choose a kids’ book each year, buy a bunch, pass them out to the kids in poorer pueblitos around San Miguel, They train teachers how to read the books with the kids, then bus the kids into town to meet the author of the book they just read. Almost always, this is the first book they own.

First visited many years ago when I was studying for a semester in Guanajuato. Then most of the expats were studying art on the GI bill.. Over the years visited friends who live there. And here's a tip. The San Miguel Library offers visits to 5 homes once a week.The fees go to support the library and many of the programs they run for the community.. A chance to see what's behind the walls. Some great restoration and preservation.. So give it a visit. And enjoy their coffee shop. The profits also go to support the library. I will take the tour on my next trip, more houses to see.

I am watching you from Queretaro, Mexico, where I have relocated, It is a beautiful, safe, and clean city in the middle of Mexico, and 3 hours from Chicago. I have a beautifully furnished apartment overlooking the entire city from my balcony and living room. My apartment includes all paid utilities and maid service. I have a driver also to shop for me. Not bad for a 79 years young retiree. USA became too expensive and deadly for me, so I called 1-800 Got Junk and had my entire two bedrooms emptied, and I did not have junk. They charge $800 per truck with 2 men, and I needed 4 and one half trucks with 10 men, and it took 6 and one half hours. I had lived there almost 24 years, and all they did was go up on everything, and only took care of the outside, except geese and dog droppings.YUCK! Please let go and let God always.

Sounds like a great place. I keep seeing this kind of thing about places in Mexico, mostly in the context of retirement. While I am long way from retirement, it's great to learn about these charming and welcoming places. I think I'm going to have to stop by to check it out soon!

Just as a little fun fact for the record, Querétaro is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mexico has in total 10 different cities with this distinction, one of the highest on the world. And between them que can find both Querétaro and San Miguel de Allende, but also cities like Campeche, Morelia, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Puebla and Oaxaca, among some others. All those are the true stars of Mexico when it comes to colonial heritage, and are absolutely BEAUTIFUL, each with its own personality and taste. Other places that are likely to become World Heritage Sites in the nearby future are Taxco and Pátzcuaro, both of them insanely pretty and full of art and culture. In my personal opinion, the two of them are even prettier than San Miguel. If you manage to visit all of these one day, you´ll have my serious respects!
@TravelWTravis3 жыл бұрын
Ah yes - we heard Queretaro was also a site but didn’t know about the rest! It makes sense though because everywhere is so beautiful. We definitely have Taxco and Pátzcuaro on our list as well - thanks for the thoughtful comment!!

It bothers me that so many people say Americans have no culture nor history. Those people only show they are being plain ignorant. Americans are full of culture and history. Maybe just different. Americans have a culture of honesty, hard work, straightforwardness, respect for the law, military history (the good one, like their heroic involvement in WWI and WW2) The world is in the debt with the “Greatest Generation” who saved the world from the horrors of Nazi Germany. America once welcomed the world, people from all over escaping war, famine, poverty, religious and political persecution and gave those people a shot at the real American dream. And America gave us great leaders the world venerates, biggest among them Lincoln. Everybody should read about him. American can learn a lot about our culture but we certainly can learn a lot about theirs and we both can become better people and countries.

Only have seen 2 videos so far but I am giving my unsolicited advise….when you describe weather instead of saying how great it is, give degrees and altitude. I’ve been to SM de Allende and loved it’s cool 72+ degree weather because it’s 6000 elevation. Also adjectives like “insane and amazing” really don’t describe anything. Just saying……
