Is a cube a mathematical manipulative? A tool to learn mathematics... maybe even trigonometry... Before you turn up your nose... why don't you define trigonometry first... ideally you have considered the difference between "rational trigonometry" and "classical trigonometry"(the one you probably say in school) before you respond. Maybe the real reason why SPEEDCUBERS are obsessed with turning the Rubik's cube is because: Chromogeometry: arxiv.org/abs/0806.3617 Great video.
