I see this everywhere in the Philippines and the nr 1 Reason is and it stuns me that not many people know A house lives …so in other words a house is affected by the weather Hot weather a House expands Cold weather a house shrinks If you tile you need to have a gap of 5mm at every wall. You can cover that gap by using the same tile but standing up. By doing so the house can expand when it’s hot and your tiles will not be affected and live happily ever after.

Don’t forget to use a 5mm gap at each wall coz a house expands and shrinks due to the weather. If you keep that in mind your tiles will never pop up. You can cover that gap by using the same tile but standing up.

number 1 reason kung bakit nag pop-out ung tiles dito sa pinas is, ni-isa wala akong nakitang contractor na nagleleave ng 5mm-6mm space sa perimeter wall.. puro grout ginagamit nila. may specialized silicon sealant naman para ma cover yung 5mm space.. di kasi uso sa atin ang floor mouldings, kaya siguro ayaw nila mag leave ng perimiter joints, kasi pangit tingnan pag silicon sealant gamit sa gilid..

Your average mason/tile setter still uses old techniques in laying out tiles. Im an architect, and it's very hard to convince them to do it that way. If you're not around looking at them, they will do it the old way. They would even add cement to the adhesive even after telling them to only use tile adhesive. Do you offer training of sorts?

Sir, no one thinks here when tiling that you need to use a 5mm gap on every side so the tiles can expand coz a house is affected by the weather. I’ve been all over the Philippines and until now I haven’t met 1 person that knows that which is mind boggling. All the floors I saw are finished without a gap…so the moment it gets hot those tiles will expand but have no way to move so they will go up It’s very simple…unless they use a gap no matter what product you use, you will always have cracked tiles.

the only problem is...magkano kaya aabutin nung sa amin, napabakbak na namin yung flooring ng bahay kasi kumakapak ang granite at nabasag na yung ilan, then ngayon after 2 yrs nag start nanaman sila kumapak at magsi alsa at basag nadin yung iba.. isa sa tinitingnan na reason is yung vibration ng lupa sa amin since along the hi-way and mostly ang dumadaan esp pag gabi puro trucks. masakit na sa ulo at sa bulsa. ang sukat nung flooribg namin is 80-90sqm and masisiguro kaya na hindi na ulit kakapak yun.
