Why Do We Call It Cheeky Nandos?

Tell me, why do we call it cheeky Nandos? Because of how hot the food is? How hot do you like your cheeky nandos? Or is it because it's a food treat? Here at the O2 Nandos I have the extra extra hot cheeky hot sauce.

A good order there, Darren. I usually go for the half chicken (on the bone) with gorgeous skin, nice and succulent - I order it 'Hot'. I have the chips, coleslaw, and spicy rice with mine + water. I then have a bottle of the medium hot sauce for slathering on the chicken, adding it to every bite, and some ketchup for the chips. I remember visiting the first Nando's in Ealing in the late 90's and have been a big fan and loyalty card holder ever since. God knows how much I've spent in Nandos over the past 20+ years - £000's!

i had my first Nando's in Seaport, Capetown back in 1992,and it was brilliant! was told they were planning to open UK branches, and i couldn't wait. Foundr my first London restaurant by Ealing Common Station some months later, and i remember the moist chicken, the crispy skin and delightful sauces. Sadly the quality has suffered over the years, but would still go for a Nando's meal. Never called it a cheeky Nando's though.

I love Nandos. If you wanted to replicate at home. A few tips. 1) The sauce / marinade in the shops is different to the sauce in the restaurant. Im sure they'd be okay if you asked for a little pot and took some home. 2) The chicken is cooked twice...STEAM oven - kept in a warm drawer - flame grilled over gas coals. Thats my understanding from research.

DJ, i dont want to be rude at all. I am just giving my opinion. This channel seems exactly the same as your other channel. Like exactly the same. I am guessing you are posting on this daily because it has started well and you are hoping it continues. Sorry, i am just slightly confused with the whole thing tbh! Food seems to have stopped on the other one..but thats what it originally was. You should do a vlog to clear it all up? Like i said, my opinion just as slightly confusing!

Good Morning DJ. You are so Brave to try that Special Xtra, Xtra Hot Sauce on your rather tasty Cheeky Nando's. Chicken and Chips with really nice Coleslaw. What a absolutely Lovely treat if you prefer Hot and Spicy Food. I like my Curry's nice and Mild to suit my delicate palette. I would like to go and visit a Nando's restaurant. Not been to nando's since pre-covid Darren but as well as the extra extra hot sauce they have the the Vusa sauce which has a nice kick to it. I always go for the extra hot heat for whatever I order and then get both xx hot sauces to pour over. Did you get just normal fries? The peri peri fries are good but look a lot more seasoned.

You are so right John. You cannot beat genuine, traditional, Piri Piri ‘oil’. First tasted it in the 90’s from a van. The guy made his own ‘oil’ and cooked the drumsticks there and then, it is a unique flavour. There used to me a restaurant in Albufeira called ‘Jollies’, sadly no longer there. Jose was the chef and again he made his own Piri Piri oil and the food was outstanding. I brought four bottle home with me. All the best to you and yours.

I’ve never heard the “Cheeky Nando’s” expression before (please don’t hate me) So many fond memories of the concerts I’ve been to in the O2. I couldn’t make the last one I should have been to as I hadn’t long broken my leg and not up to driving. The last time I think was Neil Diamond just a couple of days before he retired because of bad health. Amazing memories……

there was a hip hop song about 14 years ago it was a rather rude song and that was about cheeky Nanos then the Peri Boyz did a version called cheeky Nando's that was a skit at the customer democratic of Nandos. but it has become a term for an off the cuff unplanned visit to Nando's. but where ever it came from it has certainly helped the Nando's brand gain market share

When I was growing up in the UK cheeky was what a naughty,but really a good kid was called,in the US that same sort of kid was called fresh.So 3 years ago when I started watching videos by British vloggers,I was very surprised to hear them say a cheeky drink,or cheeky food,or treats,and of cause a cheeky Nando’s,with time the meaning of words change dramatically,and at 79 I have seen quite a few changes,think about,’My Bad’ when you mean you made a mistake,and you are sorry,and so many more.

I've not been to a Nando's for a few years, must admit it did look good. Last time I was in the now O2, it was called The Millenium Dome Experience. That was back in 2000 when it had just opened. Enjoying these foodie vlogs DJ.

Used to love a cheeky nandos. But there are so so many peri peri shops that are just as good if not better and for half the price I've tried the xx hot, food just tastes of heat and nothing else, ruins the meal for me. Normal hot is the best way

Only had Nandos once and the chicken was really dry. I spoke to a chef about it and he said, yep we prepare them early so some can be dry but if you come in I'll make you one fresh. At least he was honest

I was only at the 02 part of Greenwich last week, we could of met up and could of bought you that Nando's -could of had a nice chat! I like that part of London, I last went into Nando's in general 6 weeks ago in Kent in the borough of Dartford but last time I went to Nando's in Greenwich at the 02 was well over a year ago! I sometimes get a whole chicken with chips, + Macho Peas! And if I have room for pudding I have the plant based: Chocolate Gelado or the Mango Gelado!

As per Google "“Having a Cheeky Nandos” is an in-joke. Basically, the original term meant to spontaneously decide to go to Nandos (a Peri-Peri chicken restaurant) with your friends. The “cheeky” part means a bit naughty, a bit unexpected, a bit of a treat, etc" :)

Nando's came in after I moved to the states so I never got got to try them. I dunno what that cost but you didn't get much chicken. I would have preferred more chicken and less chips. Cole slaw is a tongue saviour and palate cleanser.
