One of your 4 foreign viewers here John. Here in the U.K. it’s impossible to dumb down any more than they have already. They’d have to turn off their life support. Speed limits across Wales have been blanket reduced to 20mph… some cities have had their streets blocked by planters to promote clean air, but all they’ve done is moved any pollution to the ring-roads. I could go on, but I’m near brain-deth already

I’m in the education field and wow, so true. When living abroad we see schools at different levels. Upper middle and lower schools. Kids are tested every year and first few years they are together. They start breaking down to the different levels. Money helps but money can’t fix lazy and excuses. Sadly we see it all over. I could go on but enough said.

In the 90's Noki was on fire with cell phones. N95 and N96 , then they just dissappeared from the US market. It turns out we were not smart enough to use the phones or the manual.Phone Tech Support for the US was costing too much. My big push when my kids were little to for problem solving skills. Its a great skill set, and helps to open alot of doors. Good topic.

Agree 100% I could do my own video on this kind of buffoonery . Vehicle technology that is supposed to make driving safer seems to make it more dangerous, especially for us on motorcycles. Lane assist and autopilot seems to make people think they can just be oblivious to everything around them. Now you got me all worked up John.😂

LOL, my bad! Don't get worked up over it - get even? No, don't do that... that sounds illegal. But I do agree, safety tech = more unsafe drivers :(

Three phones are the distraction of the day, but we had our own distractions growing up. Cassette tapes, CDs, fast food, etc…I think social media has made a big, and not better difference. People don’t have social skills required to survive outside of their online world anymore… I say Natural Selection!!
@RoadReality

Yeah, that's true - but I stand by what I said in the video regarding our distractions from today's. Also, I remember reading somewhere that people were in an uproar when AM radios were added to cars, saying that it was a distraction - if only they knew what we deal with today!

Thank you, my friend! Can I be both? I used to do more philosophy and mental health type stuff. Videos like this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZSlf4uBqcuLg9E I have definitely gone more comedian... trying to stay away from negative things - but this topic hit on this ride, so I went with it :D Back to fun stuff on Friday... PS: I was hoping it wouldn't turn viewers off - and it hasn't - because it's DEFINITELY outside the norm for a Road Reality video! I don't often go negative or rant-y.

People are always looking down at their phone while walking and not paying attention to what they’re doing. Georgia has a no cell phone in hand while driving policy. 😎👍

Good to know about Georgia... but, the country or the state? [I kid!] We have that here, too, but a good third of drivers are nose-deep in their dump phone. [it's no longer smart]

catering to the lowest group is what brought us here and this is what we end up with. It's really sad. We need to let dumb people be dumb and keep them in there little group and let the rest of us live regular lives

BINGO! That's the $64 trillion dollar question right there. And I don't have any answers except to try and get mine there. I think a lot of parents, in their quest to have their children have a better life than they did, spoil them and give them stuff. I want my kids to EARN their better life, and always strive for it. Nobody knows the value of something unless they've earned it.

I parallel park my car I have to. I have on the street parking for the 4 wheel vehicles. Common sense and critical thinking has been going out the window for years. In the past two decades it got even worse. There I some days that I deal with people and I question how they made it so far in life.

Oh man, I feel for your parking - we had a bigger driveway put in to negate that [people would park in front of our house, which is 100% legal, but blocked us from using the spots closest to our house]. I think there are two sides to the coin here. First one is the fact that driving tests are getting simpler and punishments are shifting more towards do and be fined, from do and lose your license. This means we are lowering the bar for drivers, which is bad. But drivers aids, and road constructional solutions are actually on the other side of the coin. Technical measures to make traffic safer can't be viewed as bad, because things go wrong. Stuff happens. More stuff happens in places where more people take part in traffic. If there are technical measures in place, to reduce things from going wrong, the overall picture should improve. It won't because of the first side of the coin. So clearly first step towards the solution would be cannibalism.
@RoadReality
@RoadReality Жыл бұрын
I see the two sides of the coin, I do... but I see 2 different sides to the coin - bad drivers AND bad pedestrians. If both worked harder to be safer *on their own*, then there wouldn't be a need to change the infrastructure, IMO. There's no easy solution here, outside of personal responsibility. Thanks for watching & sharing your perspective!
@theodorstravels
@theodorstravels Жыл бұрын
@@RoadReality you can't really blame the pedestrians quite as much as drivers though. Drivers get special training, to become drivers. Pedestrians are just let loose on the world, from their mothers wombs.
@RoadReality
@RoadReality Жыл бұрын
@@theodorstravels True. BUT, and hear me out - pedestrians start as kids and grow up. It's our job as parents to teach them how to safely navigate roads and sidewalks, right? I teach my kids to look both ways, cross only when safe, and to not be distracted while doing so. I agree that both drivers & pedestrians add to the problem... so both need more education. Not like you can require people to get a license to use crosswalks, though, LOL!
@theodorstravels

@@RoadReality True. but most people nowdays believe parenting is hard. Which it probably is, but the difference is, that nowdays people give up on difficult things and just let the TV babysit their offspring.

@RoadReality Жыл бұрын
@@theodorstravels Oh, don't get me started on today's parents! I am 100% guilty of letting the TV babysit... but not for very long, and not when it comes to the important things in life. I also monitor what the kids watch, and won't let them watch things I disagree with. Parenting IS hard, though, that's for SURE! Doesn't mean I can give up, either.

Not a regular viewer here. I understand your sentiment, but ask yourself how many people should die each year as the cost for how things "ought to be". I am a skilled driver, drove all my life, had the fastest delivery time across all of our stores in the entire northeast USA. Most people are not like this. People do not want to be driving or shouldn't be allowed to drive because they have to in order to go about their daily lives. Next time you're doing errands, think about how you would get to where you are if you wanted to bike, walk, or take a bus or train. I have lived abroad and something I truly miss is not needing to drive everywhere. Other countries have well-funded, reliable, and frequent public transportation and walkable cities and villages that mean people who don't really want to lug a 2-ton death machine around to run errands are not forced to. In the US we have gone all-in on the automobile and the highway (due to the influence of auto makers and big oil but I digress). Driving is built into our infrastructure, our public funding, and the way we use land. Driving is also extremely dangerous for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. If this is what you're faced with, you just have to do what you can to limit deaths as a result of driving. This includes traffic calming, protected bike lanes, increased funding for public transit, and denser development. These also really help with climate change, which will not be helped by simply ignoring it and sticking with the status quo
@RoadReality
@RoadReality Жыл бұрын
I'll agree that there's a lot to like about walkable areas and better public transportation, but I don't *want* to live in a densely-populated area - that's why I chose the suburbs instead of living in a city. In my eyes, the sprawl in the Washington, DC area is just ever-worsening. The rampant phone use, ignoring laws of the road, and overall lack of driver ability is much more to blame, in my opinion, than the public transportation. We have reliable bus service, subway, and trains here, but on both sides of the road use equation, there are people who just don't pay attention. If you got them both to pay attention, the deaths and injuries would decrease, without having to change anything. What happened to personal responsibility? Nobody seems to want to do that anymore - they just want to blame the other person! I thank you for watching & sharing your experience!
