Why do women have sex? (David Buss & Cindy Meston at CASW 2009)

Many of us think we know the answer to that one. Three obvious guesses might be: For pleasure, because theyre in love, or to have children. And we might think of a few more if we worked at it. David Buss and Cindy Meston asked 1,500 women why they had sex, and they came up with a list of 237 different reasons. The research covers sexual attraction, orgasm and pleasure, love and bonding, and such things as sexual competition among women, and effects on social status and reputation.

Very enlightening study. It's now airing on youtube, after 14 years. I hope however, that the authors sued the Videographer. They screwed up the audio, several times. Appears it may have been done deliberately, during the,"What Is Love" segment, of the video. There's no excuse for what they did. Even if you are answering questions for a survey that guarantees complete anonymity, every subject is subject to the self-judgment and self-criticism of himself/herself based on the mores that are prevalent in the society they live in. In the west, sex is supposed to be reflect agency and an answer that deviates from that - say, "I had sex because I wanted economic and social upliftment" - would go against this accepted view of what sex should be used for. In the east and Africa, where the social and economic landscape is quite different, I feel you could find more of these answers in surveys.

It’s really sad that apparently some men have been burned very badly. When I was engaged to my school teacher Husband 29 years ago I remember thinking I loved him so much that even if we never obtained anything I would still want to be with him. We didn’t have 2 nickels to rub together and both worked full time but I loved being with him so much I remember thinking back then if we were both locked in a closet together without even any furniture to sit on I would still be so happy just to be with his company because I love who he is - his very soul - I didn’t marry for money! I hope you don’t give up because good women are hard to find but they ARE out there! My daughter is 21 and she is also works hard & wants to contribute to a marriage with the man she loves because he is a great guy with a wonderful heart & soul. She loves who he is & his blue collar job is respectable work. There is someone who would love you the way you deserve to be loved. Having transactions since you pay the bills & she (hopefully) provides services is about as much of a true and meaningful relationship as going to the Stop & Shop to pick up a gallon of milk. It would be much more fulfilling for you both to build a bridge to each other, ask about each others day, treat each other with basic respect and truly care for each other. This is a how a loving relationship is distinguished from something that is transactional and empty. A lifelong love could be had when we learn the basics no one ever taught us. Research has shown that women who have given birth have a reduced risk of cancer in general, as well as a much lower risk of breast cancer. Menstrual cramps also tend to decrease after pregnancy, and the risk of multiple sclerosis becomes lower. Moreover, most women who have had children report a boost in emotional happiness over childless women. It really isn't clear whether women gain or lose in health overall from having children. However, women live longer healthier lives than men at least partly due to the reduced cancer benefits of having children (as well as the dangerous jobs factor)

I think a better question is what causes women to not want sex. And then it's a question of fling or one night stand type sex or relationship sex. As far as fling sex. The reasons women might not want to: She's only a commited relationship person. The guy is unattractive to her. She feels unclean.. overdue for shower or hairwash. Shes tired, hungry, sick, on period stressed, etc. Lack of a comfortable private place to have sex. Lack of time. Guy is hot but no one to vouch for him, lack of trust. Lack of connection, guy is rude or for some other reason she just doesn't like him. Maybe he is unkempt. Maybe he seems cruel. Guy seems needy, like he might turn stalker if they have sex once and then she isn't interested in a relationship. She's just not in the mood, stars aren't aligned, etc.

Getting women to go along for the ride is less about conquering her and more about making her feel comfortable and willing in part by allaying as many of the barriers and concerns she may have. If women (and men) don't have great pleasure as their n1 reason sth. is going horribly wrong because with only a few relatively simple steps sex is extremely pleasureful for both men and women. (not to devalue other reasons like expression of love and intimacy but you get my point). I think too few people know about this, including myself a year ago. If pleasure is less then extreme, please spend more time on foreplay and teasing, learn about it and master it. The next and most important step is learning to feel, move and store the arousal or sexual energy in your pelvic floor and belly and eventually whole body during sex in order to accumulate it rather than losing it by overthinking (mostly women) or by ejaculating (men). Learn this and similar basics of sexual kung fu / qi gong or however you want to call it if you haven't already and your sex life will improve a hundred times.

Jesus I've rarely had a GF who was looking for someone better and I didnt care when she did because it shows pretty soon when someone has a personality disorder, so I simply didnt commit and just had a good time. They were finding boyfriends who tought they had a grilfriend meanwhile they were having thing with me all that time. Whatever the reason is with women, its always psychological. That means its mallieable and doesnt always have a reflection in reality. Meanwhile sex is as physical as something can be. If women are not upstanding and moral, they should always be at a loss in the "game". They need to finally realize that, as we should, because it's our responsibility to hold them accountable.

I was in my late teen's or earily 20's during the HIPPY era. And though I was having a lot of sexual encounter's, at some point when talking to my grandmother. It became apparent to her that I knew nothing of love and questioned me if I had ever believed I was in love with at least one of my previous sexual encouter's. Thinking about it, though I loved the sex, I didn't know what loving the person was or envolved. It was then that she informed me that "LOVE" isn't never to have to say your sorry, as a movie projected. Love was a "ITCH" one can't seem to "SCRATCH". And that "SEX" and "LOVE" are to what is referrenced to day as to the N-th degree two separate and different thing's. I first took it as just an old person spewing something old people do. But now that I've managed to live as long as I have, which is next week some 75 year's old. Thinking back to my grandmothers word's. She was spot on!!!
