I do stop motion videos with my figures. So i collect characters that I have a nostalgic connection with or ill customize them into something completely new. I guess i collect to create, if that makes sense? I build my own dioramas, paint figures, film the stop motion, edit it into a video with sounds and whatnot and then upload it to my "Collection of Videos" lol i guess. I actually dont really display the majority of my collection as i use them to often to display them lol. Great video. I really enjoy these long form discussions. Take care 🙏 hope your both well

I will be very open and honest here. I began collecting when my mother passed away, about 5 years ago now. Christmas time, December 20th. I was in my early to mid 40s at the time. Something in me cried out for the comfort of my youth, and the memories of my parents attached to the items as well. Vacations, happier times, I'm sure some understand tough times and seeking that happiness again. It has not changed, i still hold a small collection. Though, a very happy collection for me. This was a fantastic video.

Wow 😮believe me when I say that I can totally relate. I lost my mom in 2020, and as I was cleaning up our old house, I discovered that she had packed away and stored all of my childhood toys, action figures and comic books 📚 All perfectly preserved and properly labeled, and she wrote my name on them. It literally brought me to my knees and both saddened and elated me. I feel comforted and reminded of my mom every time I look at my collection 🎉 Thank you for sharing your story ❤️

Your livestream/discussion videos are awesome. As you both know, I'm a huge anime fan. Though I got started with Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Street Fighter 2 at a very young age, I grew up with the many series that aired on Toonami/Adult Swim back in the day. I collect simply because it's a hobby that I enjoy and nowadays I can find high-end figures of my favorite characters and anime DVD/Blu Ray are now more easily/readily available and a lot cheaper than when I was a kid growing up in the late 90's and early 2000's.
@OpenByChance5 күн бұрын
Akira of course was my first in theater anime film, (back when it was called Japanimation). First show was likely Speed Racer.

I like. To collect old school comics from 70s.And 80s and 90s because they are worth money later on down the road and I didn't have a lot of things growing up as a child.So that's why I collect high end action figures

For me, it's a combination of nostalgia & stuff that's really cool that wasn't around when I was young. The toys r us slogan "where a kid can be a kid" applies to me and many many others, because we are still kids in our hearts & we want to keep that same energy of discovery of cool collectibles as adults.

If you don't mind me asking? Since the subject was brought up, I'm just curious in what type of work you both do for a living? I'm an Electrician myself, so I luckily have been able to make a decent living and have some disposable income I've been able to use for my collecting habits.

I enjoy collecting this time around for the packaging with the figure intact inside for the art work and design, now that I'm an artist. This time around, having more respect for the packaging, which I tore through as a kid like it was wrapping paper, sadly losing the awesome artwork they created. Now I can keep it and admire the talent involved, but also feel inspired to draw and create new things. I'm about at my limit for reasonable storage though and display area. You both have a great collection.

I'm totally into the aesthetics of the packaging. some people don't get it, but that's okay!

I really love the discussion. For me collecting is all about nostalgia because as a kid you could watch those cartoons you saw those ads of those toys. My parents got them for me . My Grandpa and Grandma got them for me then you think you outgrew them but you never did lol . One thing that always gets on my nerves is that family members see my collection as a profit they always ask me. Are you gonna sell them? Are you gonna sell them? How much are they worth? I’m sure they’re worth a lot of money and I’m like for me. It’s all about my enjoyment reconnecting with my nostalgia my childhood where there was no responsibility. There was absolutely fun and enjoyment brings me back to enjoyment nostalgia

I think collecting should be about enjoyment, that's it. Like yesterday, I did my weekly shopping and went to Target, found nothing, then went next door to Gamestop and found the DC Multiverse Question sitting on the shelf. I was so happy to find him. He's a chase and I thought there was no way I'd find one retail. After that I went by Walmart and they had a lot of records on clearance so I picked up the My Hero Academia soundtrack & Bleach soundtrack $15 each. It was just a couple things, but it made me happy to find them. That feeling is what I think it should be about.

I was wondering when Walmart would be doing it's clearance on the vinyl. They are so inconsistent from store to store though.

My Mum is Ukraine, so i wasn't allowed any toys with guns while growing up, which i still respect today. I was born in 1983 and my Mum only allowed me to collect vintage star wars toy's pre owned from markets and garage sales. My childhood room was full of vintage star wars toy's as i had everything cause it was so cheap at the time. Every kid has tmnt toy's and i had star wars toy's. Today, i couldn't care less for Star Wars as i collect sofubi toys from Japan. I travel to Japan for a holiday a few times a year and I'm very lucky to have a fiancee who is okay with me collecting toys and lets me spend hours seeking out toy shops around japan on my own as she understands toy hunting makes me happy but it's finding a good deal on something that you didn't expect to come across that i find nostalgic. My Mum is still confused on why i don't collect Star Wars today as well haha.

i didn't have any toys when i was between the ages of 6 and 10, so i started collecting them when i was a teenager. the marvel figures and comic books at the flea market were mostly from the 1990s, so most of my collection is from that era. i had to retire from collecting in my mid-20s, since making music is costly.

I feel you, I didn't have much when I was a child either.

I am a collector but a small one I am frugal and like to find good deals on stuff I liked as a kid. The weird thing is though I haven't really rebought a ton of stuff from my childhood or stuff I remember wanting. Mostly because those things got out of hand expensive. I may like that stuff but I know that like the few things I do have its just gonna be either in a box because I don't have room or on a shelf collecting dust. Some of what I get is to remember my Dad and the times we had together but that is mostly movies and Star Trek stuff like that. I am one of the odd ones because I stopped at 6 short boxes of comics even with a few collections to complete which I might or might not. And a lot of times I will pass on stuff because again it is just going to be in a box really. I recently bought a few 1/24 NASCAR diecasts that were the movie themed paint schemes and since i don't have a shelf for them right now they went in a box. I am currently going to pass on an on sale lightsaber because I know It is one I like but I don't need to spend the money. I am a weirdo among collectors I am sure. I liked the vid though.
