Happy to help. I would also like to note that I have use a few different stabelizers/hydrofoils, and my favorite is the original Doel-Fin. Thanks for watching and supporting TJO!

Hey my friend. So good to see you. You really know your stuff on your boats. I don't have a big boat yet, but I'm definitely keeping all these things in mind. Glad you got better performance out of it.
@TeamJesusOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
As much as I love my bigger boat, I love the convenience and versatility of a small boat, and I know that many guys only have access to small rigs and are looking to maximize the efficiency of those smaller rigs. Love your channel, my friend!

Thanks!! I'm a perfect candidate for this. I can't get the boat up on plane. I bet I'm on the bottom end engine size for my boat too.

It can sometimes be a cheap and easy fix.

They make a huge difference!! I just bought a 16' V Alumicraft V Hull w/ an 03' 25hp short shaft Johnson w/ a S.S. performance Prop. It would already do around 23-25mph. However, the front would ride straight up & she'd Dolphin on me. Now she hole shots like a champ, runs over 30mph w/ 1 person & runs very smoothly & flat!! (Basically looks like the prop is the only thing in the water at full speed) My mileage is very better now also. The Whale Tail (hydrofoil) claimed 30% increase & I believe it. I have no electric tilt & trim & don't need it now. $32

Better than a couple grand for an electric trim unit!

Nice comparison video’s. Do the walleye run on the Detroit river in the fall again? Thanks TJO

Almost that time. I will be hitting the D real soon.

I have been running a 10.3 X 12p 25hp evinrude 4500 rpm 21 mph on a 15.5' trapper topper. I switched to a 10.8 X 10p now 5350 rpm and a soild 23 mph. Trim set level with boat bottom. I'm looking to put a fin on it and moving it up a hole were as the 12p would cavitation pass 22mph.

I wound up getting rid of the 14' Crestliner, in this video, as I determined that I was never going to be happy with it, due to the 20hp Merc and the Narrow beam, but the stabilizer did improve the performance a bit, but a good prop is always the best place to start.

It really seems to make a difference. More speed and better fuel efficiency.
@TeamJesusOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
It made a significant difference. Still not quite the performance I had hoped for, but it's much better.

Maybe I missed it but do you run a starting motor and separate trolling motor? If yes on batteries that probably about 120#. New lithium style batteries would drop that to about 50#. The problem is lithium batteries are about 3 times as expensive.
@TeamJesusOutdoors Жыл бұрын
That would certainly reduce weight, however its way to expensive. I hope someday lithiums are far more affordable.

One more important thing that you didn’t touch on was motor height. But all good info. I’ve got a 15’ Alumacraft with a 20hp mercury and it is slow!!!!

Great point! That boat was most frustrating. I sold it rather than dump money into it.

How did the 9 pitch prop work? I am struggling with my current 20hp mercury set up and was thinking of going to a 4 blade prop or lower pitch 3
@TeamJesusOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
The 9 pitch helped a bit, but I conceded that I would never get acceptable performance out of it, and I traded it in.

Good info on the hydro stabilizer... How did the prop swap work out?

Had to order it. Picking it up next week.

I have a 15' boat with a 50hp 4 stroke merc. I can get it to plane with 3-4 people, (or kids) but 5 or 6, it won't plane out. I would give up a little top end for getting on plane with a load. Hydrofoil issue or prop? seems like hydro may help / work. Just curious if there is so much benefit from a simple fix, what is the reason the manufacturer doesn't include? Thanks for the video!
@TeamJesusOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Not sure why manufacturers dont include. They have been proven effective over decades. It should give you more lift. Another option is the merc 4 blade prop called the Spitfire.
@TeamJesusOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I had a 16 foot Alumacraft with a 40 merc. for a few years, and I couldn't get it to perform to my satisfaction, so I ended up fire powering it with a 60 hp high output Etech, and it made a world of difference. Bummer was that the outboard cost almost as much as I had paid for the boat. It all worked out in the end. When I sold it I got my money back. If you want to empower, I would be interested in your 50.

Speed wise, do you recall before and after?
@TeamJesusOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
It was a few miles per hour. It still won't do more than 15, with me driving.
