Thrift stores used to be so amazing, but now it's hit or miss. I remember when stores had bag days- where you could get as much of a specific item that would fit in a bag for a flat price. My mom would spend hours rolling clothes up so small so she could fit as much as possible in the bag. I miss those days. Thrifting is still fun, though!

Thrifting in a low income area can be rough, but I do my best to thrift as much as I can. Unfortunately because so much of my local area has historically (and continuously) experienced very low ses, our thrift stores are primarily filled with actual garbage rather than good items. We also have a huge problem with people picking through the stores as a full time job, buying anything of value, and then flipping it for double the price.

Most of what I own has been thrifted - gorgeous lined wool coats, leather bags, unique art, boots, English tableware, silverware - and my house feels like "me", not like a Pinterest page. Also, thrifting is the best for barware - cheap vintage or interesting glassware in abundance! Our (thrifted) 70s bar has almost exclusively thrifted glassware all costing like 50 cents a glass

Am in NZ and agree with your thoughts and a lot of those expressed in the comments. We are also seeing changes in pricing and their are teirs of store pricing: vintage or consignment clothes - expensive. Overcharging charity shops that operate on a more commercial model. Old school charity shops that charge reasonably and are great for bargains. It depends on the charity, the location, and the store manager for the kind of goods they stock and their pricing. To really bargain shop you have to know the market, target preferred stores and be willing to travel. But our stores are mostly much smaller than those you show and I think it would be overwhelming and I would overbuy if the stores here were like that.
