-The employer is testing you. They want to know why you want this position over another one. Realistically, you are probably looking for other jobs too. But forget that for now, and find out why this company is better than others in certain areas. Every company has pros and cons. Focus on the pros of this company, and tell the employer that those strengths are appealing to you. This is easy to do - just perform a little personal research online and remember what they company is good at.
-There is a good chance the employer will also ask you, “Have you been interviewing anywhere else?" You might think that they’re asking you to see whether you are valued by other companies. That may be the case, but the main reason is that they want to know how certain you are about this job. This is a tough one to answer, because you want them to know that you're a valuable candidate who deserves a good salary. But you also don’t want to scare them into thinking you’ll leave. If you are asked this question, tell them that you’re interviewing elsewhere, but that they are your number-1 choice - your preferred position.
-Sometimes, employers will ask you about other positions - roles that you’re not even interviewing for. This is often another test to determine whether you’re willing to accept any old job. If you;re asked this question, say something like, "I'd be open to exploring other positions. However, what I really want is this position. I know that I'm a perfect fit because…” And then you give your reasons. You can also add that once you’re hired, if it seems like your skills could be used elsewhere, you’d be open to learning more and doing what’s right for the company.
