In the 80's, Hong Kong has the apprentice system for secondary school leavers. As the number of university increased, and the economy changed to real estates and finance, the apprentice system was suspended. Vocational training organisations in Hong Kong visited Germany a few years ago to learn their education system. Now the MTR and CLP has it's training institute to train their engineering staff.

Hong Kong became what some scholars today call a "FIRE" economy - Finance, Insurance and Real Estate sectors came to dominate the economy. I'm afraid it has led to a host of issues (not least of which one of the most unaffordable housing market on earth). I was very surprised (through revisting the TVB drama "Seasons") to find that a 700 sqft apartment in Ho Mun Tin could still be going for much less than 1mil HKD back in the mid 80s - how much things have changed since!

Fire economy has become sales driven, insurmountable targets set by your boss, no wonder it’s not enjoyable
This whole setup makes so much sense, I wish U.S. can learn and adopt something similar and maybe this will bring down the extreme cost of college education here. You learn a lot more this way than what U.S. college can offer, it’s pretty much a total waste of time from most of the colleges in U.S.
I really liked this video, would like to see more like this. Interesting to know how German society runs. Maybe something like "A Day in the life of a ..." bus driver, waitress, teacher, etc.
Thank you. Fantastic video. There are so much we can learn from each side. In work and in life style. Germany has a strong industries. I hope it can ride out the current energy crisis and continue to be great.
@@choifrancesca a little addition to 1.: there still is the tendency that children of families with a low level of education will go to Haupt- or Realschule and do a vocational training afterwards. The children of studied persons are more often going to university.
The employees have 15-year stay on average in the company. Such a nice employer. The longest architectural firm I ever worked for was 3 and several months in Atlanta, GA, USA. The German employer's responsibility to employees shall be learned in U.S.
She could work for another company but she will not. She decide to go to this company because the terms were the best. And it isn't in a city but a more rural area I assume.
