Different unis have different requirements, but I did make a video that tries to be general called "Computer Science degree and beyond: what can you expect?"

@@ArseniyKD Can u give me an example of what kind of maths is studied in CS
@anshilgandhi27843 жыл бұрын
Great video! Discrete mathematics and graph theory is very much inherent in compiler engineering. There is a good chance to come across linear algebra and calculus depending on the part/kind of compiler someone works on. :)

Man, graph theory comes up everywhere. It's just so powerful at expressing incredibly complex relationships between and within systems, it's honestly amazing!

In terms of convincing the PM it won't deadlock, there's something called resource allocation graph.
@ArseniyKD3 жыл бұрын
You are correct! However, a resource allocation graph is just one tool at your disposal when coming up with a design, and it is sometimes difficult to create a resource allocation graph before any code is written. In a way, making a resource allocation graph is a proof in and of itself, and the skills used in making one are still transferable from regular math proofs.

I recently saw your videos about your various summer internships. Just wanted to ask, what job boards did you use? Currently a first year undergrad student at UCalgary and want to try and obtain a summer internship. Also: Very insightful video, however at UCalgary, only Calc 1 is required for CS majors. I’ll definitely try and do more calculus courses..

I mostly used LinkedIn, Glassdoor and applied on company websites directly. At the beginning though, networking was the best way to actually get my foot in the door. Best of luck with your internship search!

I noticed you had a very above average gpa in all your courses. Could you talk about your processes for studying/memorization and test taking.
@ArseniyKD3 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for the suggestion. I actually have a video where I talk about the general things that should help you when studying here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5y0coWrp6p1fqM As for specific processes / methods that I had for studying and test taking, I don't think it makes a lot of sense to talk about. This isn't because I don't want to share, but because I feel that each individual has something that works for them, and nobody should expect to follow what works for me and have it work for them. Similarly, if I followed things that worked for my friends, I probably would have done much worse. Does it mean that my friends were doing something wrong? Not at all, it's just that what works for them doesn't work for me. Hence I made a video about the general things that should help you do better on average, and not provide any specific study technique, as you need to figure out what works and doesn't work for you on your own time through testing out techniques every once in a while.

Thank you for the kind words :) As for your question, the answer depends on your overall goals, and I can't really give any input on the difference between the two programs. My video does talk about some differences between the spec and general programs, so start your research from understanding what you care about more.
