Because if people wanted to listen to Nickelback they'd listen to Nickelback because Nickelback are good at what they do, this was just a really poor soulless take on butt rock It doesn't take away from what they've done or detract them as people (from what you've mentioned) but it's a wild detour from everything they've done, there are other bands that have taken different routes and changed their sound but they've done it wildly better than this

I don't have a favorite song I just simply love listening their albums back-to-back because they're so consistent. They are also consistent in releasing music: one album every two years, I love that, it is fair for the listener, they don't feed you teasing their next work they are just making it. They are releasing a single and you already know that there's an album coming out this year and it is great. I hate when bands release a single and then disappear for a year or two

I agree with the message and emotion lacking in the music and lyrics. My favorite songs from Wage War are Godspeed, Slow Burn, and Indestructible. All of which are a bit softer in presentation. But have a ton of emotion behind the delivery and the lyrics. Magnetic just kind of comes and goes and doesn’t leave you with anything to think about. Even thought it’s just as generic as Godspeed and slow burn are. But those two tracks still have a ton of emotion behind them.

Assuming people just don't like it because it's not the heaviest. I'm never gonna get mad at a band for writing an objectively good radio pop rock song. It's not bad by any means, just not directly comparable to their previous releases. Personally, wish they didn't include a breakdown and they went all in with a generic bridge; they really fit the sound they're trying to emulate, but the breakdown really subtracts from song as a whole.

This is an example of bands not wanting to write metal or heavy music anymore, but feel like they have to because of their root fan base. So many bands that transition their sound are adding these pointless breakdowns to make their old fans happy and it ends up being pointless because it probably doesn’t do anything for the old fans, instead it makes the song feel very unauthentic and forced. If Wage War doesn’t want to write heavy music anymore they should just do exactly that. It would be better for them and the new fans they’re trying to acquire.

It's a tie between The River and High Horse for me; they just are. In terms of the song, it could be on a less preferable end of things. It passes the par on almost every aspect from song structure to overall flow, yet it lacks in just a simple way. There's no real heavy meaning there's no real weight besides from the breakdown. "Octanecore" is the perfect subgenre to place this single as it would fit perfectly in the rotation on "Octane".
