If you can't quite see the connection of the "harmonic series" to music in general here's an example of melody & harmony: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqbUgYeQl6aLn5o John Lennon sings the root (1st harmonic) , George then sings the M3rd (2nd harmonic ) Paul sings the 5th (3rd harmonic) then he switches to the b7 (4th harmonic) , then both George & Paul & scream the octave above (5th harmonic) :) ( ends at 2:50)

Goa vs Psy, to me, also shows the emphasis of placing more complexity in the point/counterpoint of each motif's development. The psychedelia lived mostly in the harmony and mid-range freqs; the kick and bass were not as in the front of the mix. Kicks were also pitched up a full octave or two from the modern Psy sound. And my personal taste will always require a track to have an acid line and tambourines in the drum kit to be called "true" Goa. I'm giving away my age, but c'est la vie. LOLOLOL

Omg I didnt expect that but it was awesome. I just learned the secret of Goa Trance and my mind has been blown indeed. I understood what you were talking about and have definitely observed the harmonics of a note before, but the way it is used in music especially, music that's supposed to be trippy, in-depth yet meaningful is what is the main connection for me. Seems like dissecting and expanding the definition and expression of music.

Amazing words of wisdom and a simple analysis of an advanced subject. Amazing work! Just like your music, which I've been listening to for almost 25 years now! Btw, your explanation of harmonics would sound amazing on an intro or a breakdown :) Just needs a little bit of delay and a high-pass filter. Will you make the track, or should I? :D Thank you for always being an inspiration!!

Big thank you from me mate! I'm just starting out researching this for my (very musical) son. I dabbled in Music 2000 and frutiyloops a long time ago now and really enjoyed the craft. I always meant to start researching the science behind what sounds right the first time you hear it. Your clip has pushed me in the right direction. Do you have any tips on some free PC programs similar to Music 2000 (easy for beginners and lots of included samples)? All the best from OZ, Ben

How are you getting those harmonics and what synth are you using to create that and Is it hardware or software if I may ask? :)
@BillyCosmosis
@BillyCosmosis 6 жыл бұрын
In the demo I was using a VST: Zebra 2. But you can use any sawtooth into a LP filter and turn up the resonance and you'll get a very similar result.

Certainly true that there was more emphasis on the music rather than making it all about the kick and bass.

Billy Cosmosis that’s how I always saw it back then, you guys were all musicians in bands before, so you wrote songs with intros, middles, peaks, and endings. A sort of electronic storyline. Now, most people just make a track that starts, and then cuts off at the end.
@BillyCosmosis

I would say if a producer has a background in music and applies those compositional skills, it can make a big difference to whether the music can stand the test of time - or not.
