Did you notice your first stage has holes in it? If they are not there, diving will be impossible. Alec explains why these holes or openings are needed to dive.

Hi Alec I've personally always known that as I've always been interested in the tech side of diving. Now I love vintage scuba. Most of the vintage scuba I've learnt from you as you know. Along with a couple of vintage regulators I've purchased from you 👍 However I can appreciate a lot of recreational divers don't know what their regulator actually do in principle. You explained that perfectly. So now people will have more information about how their regs work & hopefully take more care of their regs a very important piece of equipment. Take care Alec. Looking forward to your next video. Darryl.

Thank you very much Darryl for the kind feedback. I explain it to my grandkids that you can get a drivers license without any idea how brakes work. You can still drive but knowing makes you aware of proper maintenance and service for safe operation. Oh no, sounds like another Alec rant coming on! Thanks for watching. A

We love you Alec. You're one of the reasons I finally took up diving. Thank you for all the videos, advice, and bridging the knowledge gaps in the sport.

I'm an advocate of technical formation on the basic diver certification. This is exactly what I wish to be teached as the comprehension of the operation of the equipment is a very good way to avoid a panic situation in the case of a malfunction. very good topic excellent video

It was many years ago but the training agencies kept reducing the time/content to attract new divers. It does reduce their overall understanding of gear function but they put some of that into specialty courses. Most of what I cover would never be included in typical courses due to time and the expected 'explain it again' feedback. A

Wow I didn't know that, Alec. I thought the holes were to protect from freezing. So I thought: holes for cold water 1st stages, no holes if it's a warm water first stage. 😮 I thought the holes were made so water could go through so the first stage could warm up a little bit.
@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter 5 ай бұрын
The openings have no purpose for warming up the 1st stage. Purely to adjust the IP to the depth for constant breathing pressure in the 2nd stage. A

@@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter 👌 Alec, because of you I know the real reason, but as you see there is always something new to learn, thanks to your tech tips we also keep learning. 🫶

…mmm 🤔 should I drill extra holes in my regulator to make it easier to breath from ?
@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter 5 ай бұрын
No need. All manufactures know this and have either visible openings or hidden behind flexible plastic covers. Please don't drill into the 1st stage. A

Hi Alec I wonder what air pressure they have to pump down to saturation divers at 900 feet it must be huge! Maybe two breaths on my 80 at that depth? Take care Owen m

At 900ft salt water, pressure is: 399.38 psi, 27.5 bar, and 2753.65 kPa (i have an app for this!). A

A non related question, Alec do you know if there is something one that has a oxymeter ppO2 kit to a dräger ray. Or something simular. It can be abused. I'm counting on some diy restoration. It sems to je a good idea to know the ppO2 on the old ½rebreather 😅 //Jony Sweden.

Sorry but I don't know anyone who would have such a special item. All my friends are mostly vintage divers who never heard of rebreathers. Try posting your request on: www.scubaboard.com. There are lots of tec divers there who may help you. A
