I remember back in the 80s I took apart a microwave and it had the microwave transmitter frequency on it and it was 10.0 GHz It is possible that they now use 2.45 GHz transmitters, or the the harmonic frequency of 10 GHz is in the 2.45 GHz range.

Would changing channels in the Router for the 2.4Ghz option move the connection away from the microwave area ? If so how would I do that ?

I have a Verizon FIOS router (provided by Verizon) which has both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz capability. But this router does not give me the option to choose which frequency I want when I connect to Wifi. Sometimes I connect at 2.4 and sometimes I connect at 5. I don't think there is any way to control this. Is there anything that can be done?

That problem occurs often when the two have the same name, There might be a way to change the names of the Wi Fi ..add 2.4 and 5 at the end of the name so they are different, that will fix the issue as it will only connect to the one you choose

well. as the story goes, Russia was the first to ban the use of micro wave ovens back in the late 1970's because of the ill effects that were prove in people up to 500' from just one. Couple of year's after Russia banned them they were released for sale in North America and the ban in Russia was lifted. Pretty strange story.

I guess 2.4 GHz is a bad frequency for wifi.

you should never use channel 6 near a microwave use 11 or 1 that gets you away from the microwave I don't have any issues with it
