I grew up a few blocks from the Gretch factory, in New York City. My dad played guitar, as do I. My dad actually had a chance to buy a new Gretch, fresh off the lathe, at a wholesale price. He passed it up, because it wasn't a Fender. By the time I came of age, Gretch had moved to 'Are-Can-Sawr.' If it's any consolation, my uncle copped a good snare and tom-tom set from them.

Awesome story! Gretsch drums are pretty cool too.

@@isaiahhartguitar Yes, they still make quality kits. They're also severely underrated.

Have to agree with you Isaiah. I bought my first Gretsch (G5420t) back in 2018 and followed that up with a Gretsch (G7593) Billy Duffy White Falcon. Both amazing guitars and on the 5420 I replaced the TOM bridge with a roller bridge solving the tuning issue and also got a softer spring for the Bigsby. One of the best parts about Gretsch guitars that gets ignored is their Master Volume knob which allows you to keep your pot settings where you like and still gives you the ability to just adjust the overall volume/tone. Getting rid of the TOM bridge was the best decision I ever made! Great tone on yours with those P-90's too!

Thank you, im Sure the tone of the white falcon is awesome, that's a guitar I'd love to own one day!

Very Cool, Thankyou. Stunning Guitar and playing. Awesome. I have 3 Electromatic Gretschs, a G5215 Single cut, single pickup Rock Machine, a G5248T Gold Sparkle Double Jet with Bigsby and a G5420T Airline Silver Hollowbody with Bigsby. Each Guitar has it's own personality and all are a joy to play. All the Best. Cheers

I almost picked this one up but I just got the G-5655 TG in the same color with gold hardware instead. It’s one of the best playing guitars for the money. I do love those P-90s though so I might have to snag this one too. Thanks for the video!

I’m sure that guitar is sharp! I think it’s definitely worth checking this one out took. I was surprised at how good the factory p90s sounded.
@Manuel-Burnett4 ай бұрын
Some of those Bigsbys will stay in tune quite well if you replace the bridge with one that has roller saddles or self-lubricated Graphtech saddles. Then add a Graphtec nut, and you might not even need to upgrade the tuners.

I found the hardtail (wraparound) bridge version of this guitar is on sale, and I think I'm going to get it.

There are some good videos showing what to do to stabilize the tuning issues with these guitars, they can be brought into the realm of usable with a bit of work.

I had a Gretsch G5220 which I got for a killer price... but (and you knew there would be a "but"), it was an awful color, jade gray. It was somewhere between green and blue. I said "Well, it's such a good deal that I'll get used to the color". I never did, so it sat in the case. I also put a lot of money into it trying to get it set up. I took it to three different people, and none of them could set it up the way I liked. So I decided to cut bait, and unload it. It's a shame because it was a great guitar, but I couldn't get past the color. There are people who say "Oh, the color doesn't matter", but it does. The first thing you notice about a guitar before you plug it in and play it, is how it looks. I think part of the problem is that Gretsch is they're either associated with these huge Brian Setzer 1950's jazz boxes and country artists, or The Beatles. You don't see a lot of people playing them maybe because they say "Oh, I don't play that type of music". So they pass over them in favor of something like a Stratocaster.

There is an easy way to keep the bigsby in tune and that is to pass the string over and not under the rod its completely unessential. It was useful on a hollowbody that didn't have a bridge secured to the body but it does nothing but hurt tuning stability on guitars with a fixed bridge.
@isaiahhartguitar4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the info, I’ll check this out on the next restring.
@DimitriLeeBX4 ай бұрын
No problem I've been doing that for a while. If you google Japanese Gretsch hollow body you'll see that a lot of them don't have that rod. Not sure why this style of bigsby is still in use.

There's a thrash metal band called "Loathe" and they use a Gretch Baritone. I'm hoping that their use will boost gretsch in general. (Even though I'm not a Loathe fan.)

Me too, at least over most of Les Pauls that I’ve bought and sold recently. Lighter and they look better because Gretsch always provide great color choices. Whereas until recently you could get a Les Paul in any color you want as long as it is some form of gothic furniture brown burst😂. To Gibson’s credit they now are adding some life and fun to their color choices with the various pastel bursts and metallic colorways.

I have a Gretsch White Falcon that I love playing but I have one issue with it... I often "pluck" the high e string off the bridge. It has the roller style bridge and is brilliant, beautiful, and terrible all at the same time... lol. Nice video man.

I second your opinion on purple guitars 👍. Bought a FSR Squier Danish Pete purple Tele and it is the bomb! Gretsch make great stuff throughout their range and it is my favorite brand just on how they sound, feel, look, and the overall quality of the product. There may be others that come close but among the the three big legacy American brands I think they produce the nicest and best value guitars.

The Japanese pro line are way better but the cheaper ones are great for the price. The pro line have better fret boards, pickups and Bigsbys among other things (ie, the way the neck sits on the body). Rocking bar and rolling bar bridges are best with Bigsby, but you want to lube the nut. Cool video. Gretsch has some of the best tone! Chris Cornell played Duo Jets!

I don't think your tuning issues are from the guitar. I think you're not stringing it up good enough or you're not using good strings like NYxl daddarrios. I got a old beat up gretsch from back in the day. Electromatic model. No tuning issues at all : ) Check out aaron from warmoth. He has a string up method that's great!

People are talking about Gretsch. I recently bought a g5222. I love it. Its solid. Finish is great. I only had to adjust the bridge and a little truss rod and I've never done that. Holds my tuning very well. Mine just has the V stop and natural finish so i can fanboy Malcolm.

Gretch make really good top end guitars. But the jet series are also great. Problem is gibson were killing it marketing wise for ages, and fender. Most are made in korea now, but they are great for their price.

@castnoshadow82lr48 turns out you're right. I was aware their cheaper models had Chinese made components and manufactured in indonesia, but apparently, in 2021 they made a major move to China and incorporated all electromatic production there. Mine jet is 2009 and tiptop sound and quality.

Gretsch semi hollows are pretty cool to me, I want to check one out one day.
@fistovuzi10 ай бұрын
@@isaiahhartguitar highly recommend you check that guitar. in the Player line it is called Broadkaster Junior. a smaller body semi-hollow. i picked one up on sale 6 months ago, kinda on a whim, because i have never played that style of guitar in 30 years of playing. always avoided Bigsby's like the plague. always solid electrics and acoustics. i have some nice guitars but i *can't put it down* it's an incredible guitar and i can only imagine the Player line Broadkaster Junior is it's ultimate form. the only gripe is the pups are good, Broadtron BT's, but some good quality Filtertrons or even Fulltrons would put it in the "best in price-range" slot no question. and there is a new limited edition artist model Electromatic Broadkaster Junior with High Sensitivity Filtertrons, couple hundred more than the base model but worth it for the pup IMHO. the artist is a man called Chris Rocha. i don't know much about his music but i am a *big* fan of his guitar. gaudy as all get out, but i like it anyway.
