Why Does School Teach Useless Things?

Have you ever thought: why does school teach useless things? I think this video will help give you some perspective on the question and help you cope with the fact that school is pointless. The truth is that all those useless things you learn in school will never actually be needed in the real world.
School teaches useless stuff because it's easy. The system still believes trivia = education. That's why you're forced to memorize dates and names and arbitrary facts instead of actually discussing relationships between people and events throughout history. Everything is put into compartments and you're not allowed to question how all the subjects fit together. You aren't given the tools to understand how the world works. Instead, you're told to memorize this and that and then given a stamp of approval (or disapproval) when the task is done. There. You're educated (or not).
School is not important, my friends.

We are only four or five members strong at the current movement (brand new), but I, given that I am the leader of said group, seek to: - Research as many issues regarding colleges and universities as possible - Hold Q & A sessions (likely on Instagram or some other platform, and in some cases in person) to really find the roots of some of these problems - Learn more about the organizations and accrediting agencies that work with said institutions - Etc. Feel free to join! I even have a backup plan for when the college system collapses, expensive and frivolous as it can be! 1 second ago

@@theghostface2022 I'm post graduated and what I can officially confirm is that school, especially high school, was sort of disappointing. This is just my prospective and opinion as a former high school student. They do teach some useful information, they really do, but it's terribly inefficient and bland in how it's relayed to students. It's very cookie cutter oriented and is monumentally outdated, especially those standardized tests. Those tests, deadlines, 8hrs+ of sitting at a desk, homework, etc. gives less time to learn, enjoy family, outdoors, and ourselves. I'm not asking to bash schooling or that school is bad entirely, but that there's bad oversaturating what good it does provide. Look at Finland for example, 4 hour school days, little to no homework or tests, and there's more emphasis on teamwork, not competition. Everyone is accounted for, even if they don't meet a certain grade, yet their students are outperforming the rest. In conclusion to the little rant, the world isn't always fair. Things are very stressing, even after high school graduation when money and payments need to be made. If you're still in school, stay strong, I know, it's stupid, but don't give up, or get mad. Just do your best. Handle BS professionally. I wasn't the best, and that's ok! The sun came up the next day. Just keep in mind, a lot of countries don't provide an education at all. Count blessings and be good to one another!

I've created a motto for school. Learn. Test. Forget. Repeat. People I talk to say that parents should teach kids stuff like first aid and how to cook stuff other than instant noodles, to which I reply "What if your parents are dead?" Since starting school like two(ish) months ago, I've had, what I can only call a mental breakdown, from being overwhelmed because why do I need to know the seven themes of horror? I don't even like horror, I have a hard enough time sleeping as is. And this is also now a favorite KZbin channel.
@RyanCapoferri

+K Nightingale That's a good, accurate motto. The amount of information you're force-fed and expected to remember for next week's test can certainly be overwhelming. Just do what you have to do to graduate! I'm not sure what grade you're in now, but when high school is over you'll look back and say, "wow, that seems like such a short moment of my life."

@@vitalnutrients744 Well, historically speaking the school system was built by big business men and politicians in order for youngsters to learn how to be workers for corporations and factories rather to help others generate money. School is about behavioral conditioning and making everyone as similar as possible, as conceived by early 1800s planners in Europe. It was never meant for the United States, but more of central powers in Europe looking to hold onto their empires and establish obedience and control of masses of people who were starting to have access to literacy due to the printing press and the Bible (not a religious argument here, just a dispassionate factual statement about printed media at the time). This is why they used bells for Pavlovian response, called classes "classes" (to establish social class based on age, not intellect), placed teachers at the head of classrooms with rows of desks similar to factory layout, and eradicated critical thinking based on Socratic method. None of this was appropriate for the newly-formed United States, but for some reason, a Massachusetts legislator named Horace Mann just loved that Prussian schooling model and felt strongly that it should be brought to the US. John Dewey later launched the program that would spread the cancer of this system across the entire US, and not just leave it confined to MA. Within the first generation, almost no classically-educated professors and teachers remained, and students in the US got progressively less and less educated, but more and more schooled into thinking like serfs, conformists, with minimal ability to problem-solve. The Sputnik scare really changed that for 2 generations in STEM, but humanities and classics were still left by the wayside. Now we have more access to information than at any other time in history, with students and teachers who are dumber than at any time in US history. Don't ever go to school if you can help it. More knowledge is at your finger tips, but you do need to develop and emulate successful personal habits if you want to live a full and happy life. School will only lead to misery and despair for most of you.

Something that School tends to forget is that we are all different from each other. Our interests will be different, the pace in which we learn will be different, and our perspectives will be different. However, School just acts like we’re dumb automatons who just sit there and do work all day. I mean, why do we have to constantly be told to just sit there and cram a bunch of useless facts into our brains that we will probably never need in our everyday life? It just makes no sense. Plus, there are already MUCH better ways of learning than school, and one of them is simply looking things up on the internet. You want to learn about something? Boom! Just search it up on the internet! Its as simple as that! Not only that, but the grade system is downright terrible! People who get As on everything are recognized as intelligent, while people who get Fs are looked down upon as stupid. That is a MAJOR problem, and its sad to see that the problem still hasn’t been addressed by the government or dealt with in any way! The thing is, grades don’t show a person’s true intelligence. They only show how much facts School has managed to cram into its students’ heads. I’m not saying that people who get good grades aren’t intelligent, but I’m saying that people who don’t get As aren’t any less intelligent than those who do get As. The grade system is so moronic and backwards that it manages to give people a false identity based on the grades they got. Its really sad to see people get so much crap thrown towards them just because they got a bad grade. Also, think of this. We have to put up with this nonsense for over 13 years! When you leave school, you find that so much of those useless facts that were crammed into your head at one point were never used, that it makes those 13+ years of being in school feel like a total WASTE! What a shame! We have to put up with constant lectures, stress, anxiety, boredom, and depression for NOTHING? I can NOT believe how just plain awful this School system is! So much useless crap gets crammed into your head, just for you to forget about it later! What a shame...

the biggest problem with school, is the supression on creativity and curiosity. we humans, are unlike any other creature. we, are CONSCIOUS. *conscious beings can create variability on their own*. conscious beings NEED curiosity to evolve, adapt, compete and dominate the world. we don't rely on evolution to get us by like 99.99% of organisms, we rely on our brain. and the school system is a mistake because it fails to capitalize on this idea that we NEED creativity and curiosity.

one thing i hate is they don't actually prepare you to be an adult. My AP Human Geography teacher, one of them, makes us do these Socratic seminars in which we talk in a stupid circle and FAIL if we don't say anything even if we write notes, they're "preparing us for college" but i thought in college the professer just talks about something for a few hours. like, these circle things make me wanna puke because i hate talking in front of other students who probably think i'm a loser except for like...4 or 5 out of 24 of them. Like, why do you wanna force me to talk to people who hate me? and about stupid stuff like "why do people migrate?" I'm a flipping teenager who just wants to learn how to edit videos and listen to my musical theater. This is why I love my film class, we choose to take that...luckily for me the teacher in that class is a chill dude who doesn't make us do seminars, instead we get to make videos!

School makes me sad and depressed knowing that I have certain weaknesses. Learning about the subjects you didnt know is still pointless and stupid, Why cant you just learn anything you want? Do whatever you want? Kinder to G6 is okay but Middle school to College is dumb. Why cant schools take the fact that we are unique, built different and born to be a genius. Everyone is a Genius, we just cant take some things, we have abilities and disabilities. We WORRY ABOUT OUR GRADING SYSTEM JUST FOR NOTHING. Everyday back then I was planning to end this all by suicide, I always have a messed up room, room with papers full of calculations of nonsense, Notebooks everywhere and always coming home with headaches due to staying up late. I will do everything just to get my useless reports done. A friend died of heart problems due to staying up late, and I hated school for that and got mad at my teachers, I dropped out at 4th year College and I am finally freed from the hellhole of stupidity

@RyanCapoferri
@RyanCapoferri 7 жыл бұрын
I'd argue they're useless to know in the way they're usually taught in school. Typically, you're told something like: "Here's an old story. Now memorize the characters and what they did and when so you can pass this test!" That's no good. No time is spent actually discussing the MEANING of the myth and all the social and moral implications the story explores. All those Greek myths have direct relevance to today's world... the human condition hasn't changed much at all over the last few thousand years.

In my opinion school should only be for 3 hours a day and students can leave school if they feel depressed, unwell etc. They can just go home and inform their parents or whoever is taking care of them and they will give the school a call to confirm that the student is at home. And school should only be for 3 days a week, plus a optional fourth day for people who like to study. Also I feel like history should be optional, for people like me who like to study history, because history is the past, and it has no impact on the present anymore. Toilets? No permission, just tell the teacher you are going and how much time you need. Teachers shouldn't be able to take control of our bodies like that.

I sometimes think that I could maybe just not pay attention in class-like they can’t physically enforce me on learning, right? Oh wait, I’ve always been straight A’s meaning that I always have to think. Well shit. Most of school after 6th grade is just spread out so we don’t throw rocks at cars and cause chaos while in rebellious teenage years. I’m seriously thinking about trying to debate my school system, as well as proposing a more universal and adaptive learning method. Everything in the current US Schooling System is monotonous, stressful, and low quality. Hell, I’d probably be denied any remorse or given any access to voice my opinion against my school system because they hate freedom of speech. I couldn’t voice my opinion for more than 3 minutes probably without some teachers shutting me down or potentially facing suspension. So yeah, school sucks balls. But I’m probably biased because I went to a Montessori School when I was little... School is bullshit and monotonous filled with teachers that have no worth other than to recite information that they are paid to say. It’s quite sad.

Go ahead, but find a extracurricular activity, or if you are even luckier, a elective, meaning a class you PICKED in school, that you love. An example is me learning programming and computer aided design through Technical Design class. I also have karate after school and gym so I don't like every class but I find something to pour my heart out. You don't have to be perfect at EVERYTHING, only at what you love. There is a reason we have many jobs, not one. Try out classes, read books, explore, and eventually you will find the career that you are suited for the best. Learning does not stop when you leave school, it continues until you die. Thank you for reading. I hope you can change an elective to your favorite class, find a extracurricular class you love, or just watch youtube videos and learn, or maybe learn from books. Goodbye.

My country has many regional languages. Mostly everyone I know doesn't understand our "national language" but school still forces us to learn it. And about half of our subjects uses the national language.

We need to talk about more important topics in school. We need to teach our children things that truly matter. Pineapple on pizza is an absolute crime and shouldn't be tolerated. To think some parents condone this kind of behavior is just horrifying. I hope my children will grow up knowing the difference between good and bad pizza with my guidance.

Since my parents treat me so harshly and I’m also “the smart kid”, I treat myself extremely harshly. Like I will force myself to do all homework at school in 1 day and hit myself when I couldn’t study. If I don’t get a good grade I might cry. In addition of constant bullying, I think I’m in depression. School sucks and it needs to be fixed.

That's why I like digital marketing. I learn stuff as I need it. In reality we should mesure, learn and build. In school we only learn from old text books mostly... There's very little implementation of real data or info. And most students just don't give a dam about classes, either Messing with their phones or not attending.

Classes are also way too full to concentrate. Last year they made a mistake with the paper's and we ended up having thirty kids. All theatre kids, that is. And I think you might know how loud and annoying they are. We have officially been branded as the loudest class in the school. I just can't concentrate!
School has FAILED you. (Here's why)
