Bromothymol blue is a pH indicator. Water has a usually neutral pH. However from this indication your water is actually more basic than neutral. I only believe this because Bromothymol blue usually seems more green at pH 7 and more of the blue seen here at around 7.4. I would like to know if I am wrong here. And if so how come? Is it due to the solution it is suspended in? The carbon dioxide you breathed out reacts with the water to form H2CO3 (carbonic acid). I would also like to know. Does the carbonic acid turn back into H2O and CO2 after you stop breathing and mixing it up? The carbonic acid is acidic :) and reacts with the Bromothymol blue turning the solution a yellow color. Thanks for making me want to learn that :) I hope I learned it correctly.

The CO2 from the breath made the solution acidic so it turned yellowish.
