Oliver Hardy (of Laurel & Hardy) wore a short tie to accentuate that he was fat (the girth of his neck) for comedic reasons. Trump wears a long tie because he thinks it makes him look taller, along with the lifts in his shoes. His ties are red, because it's the most striking color, other than the gold one he sometimes chooses. And, I believe he gets his cardboard shirts from mortu@ry supply.

The big fitting suit is because it's off the rack. You get a suit tailored to fit your build. It's supposed to be fitted not slouchy looking. That's what sweat pants are for once you get home. Look around at the other men in suits. All are fitted not hanging off of them.

His suit is his brand, but also, it shows respect for the occasion, or visitor. It's appropriate attire for most events except for a very casual setting. My father always wore a suit unless he was at a ballgame or on the beach. In his case, it's authentic to who he is. It's his uniform for doing business. The red tie is patriotic as well as the color of the Republican party, but also looks good with the blue suit - balanced. Your comparison with 0bama's tan suit accents the point - everyone was wondering what it MEANT! It caused a sensation! Was it a snub? Was it more casual? Trump is aware that his attire is commented on, so he sticks with his brand.

Yep, people don't realize he is wearing a kevlar jacket most of the time, Bongino has confirmed this on several occasions. Very good. I remember when in the late 1970s and through the 1980s the phrase power colors was tossed around and tried. I attempted to follow the dress rules, but unfortunately it never worked. I think it is because I was dressing better than the boss. Ha, ha.

Always told to " dress for the job you aspire to " . Besides working retail ( interior design ) , I also showed horses professionally - when entering the show ring , you have about ten seconds to catch the judge's eye ; so , the saying " you never get a second chance to make a first impression " is paramount ! Also true in so many other occupations .

There are some things to note that weren’t mentioned. Trump wears the tie that long because it helps make him look skinnier. He has a stomach when you see him not wearing the suit, such as when he’s on the golf course. The tie going down to his crotch is on purpose too. He wants people to look there, especially other leaders because it’s an unspoken demonstration of power and dominance. While red is the most well known power tie color, it’s not his favorite. Pink is the color he liked to wear and is a big power color also, but red is just the best one, which also goes with the Republican party. Before his presidential run you saw a lot of him wearing red, blue, and pink. The blue suit was purely a presidential thing.

Red is a very strong color and commands attention and respect. A red tie is just a perfect complement to the white shirt and blue suit. Make it a red shirt or a red suit are for special fashion events and it makes you look tacky if you are not careful.

This was a great video! I grew up in the 80s and admired Mr. Trump and his conquest of Manhattan. Trump has a simple yet powerful style that he talked about in his book The Art of the Deal.

Trump looked magnificent in Paris, France 🇫🇷 for the reconsecration of Notre Dame. He had on a bright Yellow tie. I’m sure he’s quite intentional about his garb. He looks great!

I didn't see that news, but it is fantastic that he wore a yellow tie in France. Thanks for pointing out that connection that might have otherwise been lost on me.

Yes but he has to cool down when giving a domineering handshake to Macron. Come on, it was unnecessary.

Brand recognition is a big key to your look. Being a plumber by trade, I can't wear my typical 'oil tycoon' business attire, that so many acquaintances are familiar with. I do plumbing repairs for a few restaurants that I frequent. When I dress in a polo shirt, jeans, & a dark baseball hat, the waitresses that know me, usually don't recognize me at first. I do believe in addition to brand recognition, the red tie does indicate he's the head of the Republican Party. My evidence to this is the fact that many Democrats default to a blue color tie. But yes, red is known as a 'power tie', and he uses it very effectively. I'm not a big fan of a navy blue jacket, white shirt, & red tie though. While the American flag is a very good looking flag, I don't find those colors really matching well. I prefer a black or grey jacket, with a dark maroon, blue, or black shirt. Then a tie selection can really accentuate your look. Depending on my mood, I'll wear a black tie, or a dark red/maroon, and even a white silk tie to really stand out. I will wear a white shirt occasionally, but not regularly, I prefer the dark colors... But I also wear a black 'cutter' cowboy hat too. Speaking of ties. I really don't like how wide the ties that are currently on the market. I prefer the 1950's early 60's 'Buddy Holly", very thin ties... They are very hard to find though. I don't wear a bolero with my cowboy hat, it just looks to 'costumey' for my look. So I prefer a business tie with the cowboy hat. Looks like I could be a oil tycoon, a Texas Ranger, a country singer, etc.

I thought that the red silk tie was also because it photographed so well, and it is a great color for him. Plus he really seems to avoid prints now, as well. But he is always dressed so amazingly!!!

I’m telling you I watched an interview with President Trump when he first started running in 2016 that was with Tom Brokav or Peter Jennings and Trump said he’s been wearing it ever since they said it would look more presidential. Look up the interview.

When I was a kid the combo of dark suit, light shirt and red tie was considered the default 'Respectable' get up. It wasn't until the 90s that project manager started really looking for stand outs in fashion. That change was probably helped by the need for free thinkers in tech. Suddenly the only guy interviewing in tan and green seems like an obvious choice.
