Great video. So being also an amwf couple ourselves, I will share a little bit of our story and my perspective. First our backgrounds are a little different. I immigrated to the US at 11, during the early 1980s. So I am pretty much a Gen X stereotype latchkey kid and all. I lived in Southern California for only a short time. I actually grew up in Texas. My wife is 8.5 years younger, and we met in Eastern Europe where she is from. She was a college student, and I was in the US Army. I feel like my Taiwanese upbringing for sure was an obstacle when it comes to dating when I was younger. Taiwanese boys were raised to be very reserved, humble, and we were very shy by any western standard, which put us in great disadvantage. However, let's be honest. These qualities don't effect girls the same way, which is why I think you see so many Asian girls with white guys, but not the other way around. So my wife haven't met any Asian guy before we met, because there weren't any where she is from. She saw me and was like "oh he is a foreigner so I can practice my English". She thought most of the local guys smoke and drink too much, and spent too much time talking about soccer, so she was happy when she found out I don't watch soccer, I don't smoke, and I drink very little. Her parents have been to China but she knew nothing about Taiwan at the time. She knew I was in the Army and stationed in Germany, but also had not been to Germany before and certainly had no idea what it means to be married to an American soldier in Germany. We were far away from my family, and so she had to learn to adapt to our close knitted American community. For the most part we get along well with the Germans, as I already have German friends and colleagues. The funny part is most strangers would assume she speaks German but in fact I had a few years of it in school and she didn't, which resulted in a few really funny situations. However she knows French, Spanish, and Italian, so it worked out well for us traveling in Europe. Before I met my wife I dated girls from Taiwan. However in the end they didn't work out because I am just too different from most Taiwanese. My sister in-law said I am "almost American" (she is HK-Canadian so I let that one go 😂), meaning I am almost like a white guy. I don't think so, but I guess from their perspective it's true. I do drive a pick-up truck. 😂

Your lucky your wife is form Eastern Europe so she doesn't have racist Hollywood imagery beat into her head like white American girls. Given your age you must know all about the pains of Long Duk Dong joke.

Bro! Are you me?! I also moved to the US at the same age! I'm an Officer in the US Army. And also my sister, said I'm very banana (very westernized Asian) 😂 and obviously I'm married to a White woman, who also speaks Spanish, French, & Chinese.
@peterchen97633 жыл бұрын
@@offtheMarcKate since I was still single by the time I commissioned, it became highly unlikely that I was ever going to meet and marry another Taiwanese, considering my duty stations. Most Taiwanese women will have a hard time adapting to life as a military dependent, and a high possibility your in-laws won't approve of your career. Within a few months of getting married, I took company command. Suddenly my wife had to get used to being addressed as "ma'am" which was part of the culture shock. However, our community was welcoming and honestly life was great. Things got much tougher when multiple tours to Iraq and Afghanistan followed. I retired six years ago. I know military life is still tough. Best of luck to you two.
@offtheMarcKate3 жыл бұрын
@@peterchen9763 yeah, I got married a week after I Commissioned from OCS. I'm not Taiwanese though. I'm Filipino, but still very similar stories.

Eastern European and south European are actually very different from 狭义的 white. Statistically, dating Eastern European like Russian are way easier than dating a local American white.

To claim dating Caucasian woman as “pride of Asia” on your thumbnails is extremely self racist as an asian person, AND fetishizing white woman at the same time. 1: white aren’t inherently better, asian definitely aren’t inherently inferior, what is there to proud of by dating a white woman? so are the white girls pitying asian man and doing asian man a favor by dating them? Get a grip and see yourself as equals, stop this self hate and self loathing. 2: is your gal have nothing else to show for when it comes to morals and values? What about her personalities and character? Is her only identity “white”? She is a person and she is more then a “white girl” for men to fetishizing about.

This is not necessary to learn Chinese very hard as priority when staying in Taiwan only for short vacation, like 1 or 2 months, unless the partner would spend more time on kid. Just experience the difference in culture and life style first than you will figure out what and how you want to learn. Don't be too stressful.

Really depends on what kind of husband you like. American type, every cost exactly 50% 50% shared with you, but he would like spend $50 more dollars buy a flower for your birthday. I have a different opinion. When you have a TW face with 20 years in US, people still see you as a Taiwanese in TW until you actually point out you’re different. So you’re either Asian or non-Asian in TW vs everyone’s special in US.
Love this video, I do have a question for u. I am from mainland China and I am currently based in Melbourne, Australia. I matched with a lot of white girls during the lockdowns this year, but it seems none of them was looking for a serious relationship. But I have determined to marry a white girl in a few years. So there is a paradox right here and I want to know ur opinions on my situation. Do u think I should hang out with those girls and see if we can get along...U know in Asian culture, looking for something casual is irresponsible and should be condemned. All the best to 小黑龍 and Tiffany.BTW Tiffany is so gorgeous, making me envy u, man.
@BlackDragonTiffany3 жыл бұрын
I think don’t look for the race. Look for the character and what fits you the most. If one day one white girl fits your personality then yes why not. But I think spending time and understand different cultures first is very important and it’s a must to try it out first.

"We were taught to serve our husband." I get what you mean by this, but I think a lot of American women would misconstrue it as "we should be subordinate to our man." The feminist types think being a housewife and taking care of the kids at home is a form of suppression. But in Asia, it's normal for the guy to be the sole breadwinner.
