What is ”egg-shaped” even? I used to think it was the shape of a chicken egg. Then one day I saw a collection of eggs from lots of different bird species, and I realized just how many different kind of egg shapes there really are! I had to know why. And it turns out a couple teams of scientists had wondered the same thing. Here’s what science says about why eggs are egg-shaped, if that's even a thing, which I’ve learned it might not be. As a person who has helped raise chickens I've seen the same hen lay nearly round and oval eggs depending on when fertilization happens. In fact we knew a round egg was usually a sign that that egg wasnt fertilized at all and that it was what my family called dropped batches. It was usually a sign that the hen was in between mating cycles.

The chart shows the chicken egg to be significantly less elliptic and significantly less asymmetric than the average egg. Very much an outlier. Maybe you should get better at reading graphs instead of confusing people by pretending to know what you're talking about.

@@E44ghCr4p It can be very far away from the average egg, that wouldn't make it an outlier. An outlier is a data point that is far away from other data points, and you really can't say that about chicken eggs. They aren't where most eggs are concentrated, granted, but there are still a great many eggs nearby that calling it an outlier is just... wrong. Also, with how varied the egg shapes are, I'm not even sure it's all that far away. I wouldn't be surprised if it's within 2 standard deviations or so.
