So the conclusion here is that's a question of logistics; resources, transport capabilities and time and that the context of why certain things aren't included is important... Never heard that before 😉😉 The less kind response is if those critics think they can do better, then they should prove it. Both of your channels are absolute top-teir and I can't think of any videos that haven't been interesting and informative, even when the subject is one I'm less interested in. You guys are awesome 👍

An informative video as always. I don't think most people understand how much work goes into these videos. For you have to be Researchers, Film Crew and Editors all in one, the hours are brutal to say the least. That you both have done as much as you have and at the quality achieved is nothing short of spectacular.
@Token_Civilian3 жыл бұрын
9:55 "Lose if you do and lose if you don't" - the idea is well expressed. The idiom is "You're damned if you do and damned if you don't" which means more or less the same thing. Oh, and why don't you come to the Museum of Flight in Seattle? And while you're here, why don't you go up to the Flying Heritage and Combat Armor museum in Everett. (Joking...joking....sorry guys, I couldn't resist, but if you ever make it to the US Pacific Northwest that would be great) ;-)
I suppose most people don't realize just how much time and money it takes to become knowledgable on a subject, because they don't research in the same manner. It's not as simple as going on to wikipedia or getting the Osprey Publishing book on your subject. People don't question the knowledge of f.e. professors because they are somehow expected to have read everything, while forgetting that it took a minimum of a four year Ph.D. (often longer because they don't hand out tenure) to get to that point. Most academic I know need at least a month to properly research and write an article. The irony is that KZbin specialists are expected to have that same all-encompassing knowledge but that many people don't seem to realize that they face the same hurdles as academics and that for a lot of these subjects, you can't just go to a local library to find what you want and you'll need to invest thousands of euros just to afford the core of a private research library. That's before getting into the costs and time discussed in this video. In many ways the fact that Chris and Bernard can even afford to make these videos is baffling to begin with.

I am currently reading the Brazilian-translated memoir of Dr. Heinrich Boucsein "Bomber, Jabos, Partisanen (Finale furioso in Italien). Die Geschichte der letzten nach Italien verlegten deutschen 232. Infanterie-Division 1944-1945", about his time in the Italian front after the Fall of Rome. He also has a book about his time in the Eastern Front, and neither of these books are translated in English. Another German memoir that really needs a translation in English is about an ex-foreign légionnaire pressed into service in the 90. leichte Infanterie-Division "Afrika": 1941 - 1943. Libyen - Ägypten - Tunesien. Afrika - Artillerie - Abteilung in Afrika - Regiment 361 und im Artillerie - Regiment 190 der 90. leichten Afrika Division. Von der französischen Fremdenlegion zur Deutschen Wehrmacht, by Selbstverlag K. Schweyher.

Logistics is apparently the key to video making related to military history and/or military vehicles, not just warfare itself. I was in the UK in 2019,during TankFest 2019. I grab my food at the local Lidl and Tesco in Weymouth. I only ate warm food once during my six day visit,just to be sure that when I came back,I have enough money to tackle most everyday financial problems,although,in retrospect,I could have been less careful,since I came back on payday. I would love to do a walkaround of the Pz I Ausf F in the Military History Museum of Belgrade. And I would also love to do one in the military park in Banska Bystrica. Maybe next year,if my logistical radius allows it. This year is for TankFest 2021 though :)

My own research into the "Flying Porcupine" description leads me to believe it was entirely British propaganda. This article was a few years old.. weaponsandwarfare.com/2017/09/15/debunking-the-flying-porcupine-myth/ but I remember the term being used in the 1970s in WWII military comics like Commando. It's been circulated as reality for a very long time.

Thanks guys I love your work, especially because you blokes are German speakers. It's particularly interesting to me , to get the right story from the other side. My grandfather was in the RAAF during the war,and growing up listening to the stories he told about what the Germans were like. And why we won the war, are really a load of rubbish. I'm not saying he was lieing or anything of that nature, but he was one small man inside a huge machine. Only able to see that small part of the greater whole. And not to diminish his or any other veterans view, on what they perceived things. It great to get a straight over view from both sides.

Fine in theory, I suspect not in practice. Local goes and films rare aircraft. Sends you the footage. You review it and realise there's no or little footage of technical feature A, that you intended to highlight. You can ask the local to go back and shoot more of this but then you've doubled your cost, assuming the owner of the rare aircraft is prepared to make it available again. Rinse and repeat...
