Spiders heard Grey was coming and, being big fans, built an elaborate network of webs to protect him from the centipedes. Then they have to listen to him complain about them throughout the podcast... Pretty sure they were all like :::(

Sweet leaves, sea air/water and frangipani is the smell I remember. I also find Grey’s displeasure with Hawaii amusing. I guess it’s like a classic comedy scenario, because people always will imagine resort Hawaii and not the genuine suburban Hawaiian lifestyle and everything that comes with that. The resorts are so different to real life, as Grey said they have people employed to clean and trim everything so that visitors have a perfect experience.

I had to send this podcast to my wife (a Bulgarian who now lives with me in Australia) because she was horrified when she found out cockroaches fly here, which I (a native born Australian) never really thought about. All the Australians here are worried about snakes, spiders and sharks (you know...things that if they bite, you die) and she's horrified about all the flying cockroaches.

Oh hey... My mom moved to a new place that was surrounded by at least a thousand Black widow spiders... My dad's truck that hadn't moved in a week was inundated with 67 black widow spiders... Yes... I counted every single one. Her front door had new black widow spider every night... Sometimes 4. There were black widows the size of a quarter with it's legs retracted under the eves of the roof. Hollow cinder blocks had at least a black widow in each hole that I had stupidly not checked when I moved them at night. There was a black widow just hanging out a foot (1/3 meter) above the ground that could just latch onto you shin if you did not have a flash light to show you where you were walking. (I am still not over this.)

@@Angel-zh8cz there are spiders everywhere but most can't hurt us (our skin is too thick for them to penetrate). The Black widow is one of the dangerous ones that can hurt us, hence it's reputation. I still worry about the one that kinda got away (I hurt it but had no idea they were so hard so I didn't use enough force to kill it instantly and it got away) mostly because if it didn't die it could multiply, it is a city area, not rural, it will be bad if they multiply a lot, it came with the logs and I am worry every time I have to move logs to heat the house.

Yeah, but in terms of relative time of day, the furthest apart they could be is the same time, but one in the PM and one in the AM, so that they had a 12 hour offset. 2am in +14:00 and 4am in -12, despite being 26 hours apart, are only 2 relative hours apart.

It is just 2 hours difference in terms of time of the day, but it is the time of different calendar days. Hours are just subdivisions of calendar days, what y'all (and Grey) are thinking about is the position of the Sun in the sky/how far Sunrise is.

My parents and some of my older siblings lived in Hawaii for years before i was born. They have a lot stories of keeping out "The Nature" while they lived there. And funnily enough they also dont mention nor care about the spiders, instead being concerned with things like centipedes getting inside their house and having stories dealing with that. That and dealing with roaches getting inside. And sometimes geckos. But other times you would want geckos inside to deal with roaches and similar stuff.

I lived in Tallahassee and had a simpatico moment with Grey talking about spiders. I lived there 20 years and developed that ESP to determine if 2 objects are closer than 8 feet. Now that I'm in New Mexico, the spiders are much less threatening and pervasive - though we do have tarantulas, but they're like gentle 8-legged teddy bears - but I do have centipedes. I can take just about any bug - and we have vinegaroons (look it up) and scorpions - but centipedes freak me the hell out. 1) Their exoskeletons are really hard, I have to use a rubber mallet to be sure I really get them; 2) They're sneaky AND aggressive; 3) All. Those. Legs; 4) According to all accounts, their bite is among the most painful in the insect kingdom.

The universe is not sentient but sometimes it really feels like it is. I will always remember once in university, a classmate had to go to the bathroom, the moment he went out of the room a phone started ringing, our teacher immediately said "I bet whatever you want that the ringing phone is from the person that just went out", after he came back the teacher asked him to look at his phone and to tell if he had one missing call, it was his phone.

I live in a place where you use wood as fuel to heat the house, you always see spiders in the logs, this year I saw one spider, my brain immediately went into alert, danger, that thing can kill you, I knew that by color alone, it was extremely black with a colorful red hourglass, a black widow, the color is always the most telling part of a venomous animal, or, in the case of snakes, the size (the smaller the dangerous)

it’s not true that you can’t be more than 12 hours apart for example Tokyo is 19 hours ahead of Honolulu. By Grey logic they’re only 5 hours apart because if you’re scheduling a meeting for noon in Tokyo it would be 5 pm in Hawaii. But the kicker is that it would be 5pm the previous day in Hawaii. Which you know matters for scheduling just as much as time difference alone.

Literally, the KZbin channel. He rarely uploads because the videos simply take a long time to make. And then there's administrative work, like coordinating with the rest of his team (e.g. the animator), doing his taxes, etc. Of course, if you listen to the rest of the Cortex episodes, you'll get more of an idea of how Grey spends his time, since the show is literally about his and Myke's work processes.
