Certainly! Raising goats can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Whether you’re interested in goat meat, milk, fiber, or simply having them as pets, here’s a basic guide to get you started:
1. Decide Why You Are Raising Goats:
-Determine your purpose for raising goats. Are you interested in meat, milk, or both?
-Consider whether you want to raise goats for breeding, showing, or simply as companions.
2. Choose the Best Breed for Your Backyard Farm:
-Research different goat breeds and select one that aligns with your goals.
-Keep in mind that goats are social animals, so it’s best to have at least two goats to keep them happy.
3. Build a Shelter That Keeps Your Goats Out of the Elements:
-Construct a sturdy goat shed or shelter to protect your goats from rain, wind, and extreme temperatures.
-Ensure proper ventilation and drainage.
4. Create a Pasture with a Sturdy Fence:
-Design a pasture area where your goats can graze and exercise.
-Install a secure fence to keep them safe and prevent escapes.
5. Provide Quality Nutrition:
-Offer a balanced diet that includes good-quality hay, grains, and minerals.
-Fresh water is essential for their health
6. Healthcare Management:
-Regularly inspect your goats for signs of illness or parasites.
-Vaccinate and deworm as needed.
-Establish a relationship with a local veterinarian.
7. Breeding Strategies:
-Understand goat breeding cycles and optimal mating times.
-Keep accurate records of breeding dates and kidding history.
8. Market Research and Diversification:
-Know your local market and understand the demand for goat products.
-Explore value-added products such as goat cheese or soap.
Remember, patience and continuous learning are key to successful goat farming. Enjoy the journey and the many benefits that goats bring to your backyard farm! 🐐🌿🏡

No he should actually be getting about almost triple his herd size usually if your animals on good feed lots you'll get 80% twins so in other words 8 out of 10 go should be having twins some lucky people get a little bit more others get a little less. Been raising goats for almost 20 years.

Most first kids are male. If you feed them organically, like I did, make sure the food supply is nearby when you increase the numbers. When I got over fifty, I was free ranging. They went out early morning and came back in the afternoon.

Thanks for all your knowledge sharing dexture Sir. The reason for male baby could be genetic, environmental factor, how is there environment what are their nutrition, temperature and stress level, then it could be adaptive advantage means producing more males or females can be advantageous depending on species reproductive stratergies , hormonal factors in mothers during conception and pregnancy could determine it, random changes means goat is a mammal and they trend to produce more males then females.

Your goats CAN provide you with milk enough for you and baby... You must seperate the kids from the mothers each night at sunset, pens beside each other is ok. And you go out early and milk, then let the kids go to their mom's. They can drink all day and you get what's from overnight! As the kids nurse more they will produce more!

Years ago I read from old books published in the 1930's that feeding milo to budgerigars would produce more females. I started feeding my goats and chickens more milo and found that they produced twice as many females to males - 2/3 to 1/3 ratio. Milo is very expensive right now as a grain feed, but maybe you could plant some and try it out.
