Husqvarna 543 XP produced by Zenoah (bought by Husqvarna in 2007) Is a light and powerful all around saw, it can take down big trees with no problem and is easyer on the body after a day in the forrest compared to heavier saws.
On big trees of harder wood like ash, i prefer to use a 50cc or 60cc saw.

I older I get the smaller my go to saws become. My woods ported Dolmar PS401 gets used a lot (8.8 lb powerhead). The woods ported blue version of a Dolmar 115i comes out for anything too big for the little saw. Rarely do I start the Dolmar 7900 anymore.

I run them they are great especially after they are ported. Nice one to take up in the tree I think.

You can do a lot with a 40cc saw if you know what you're doing and don't try to run a longer bar than it can handle. It'll cut slower than a bigger saw, but you'll also need fewer breaks to refuel or to rest. Naturally you can't cut big trees in the PNW or big hardwood; but if you're cutting mainly softwood it can be pretty efficient. That said, most pros do go bigger -- you know, like a Ponsse. (Around me, the people manually cutting are mostly arborists or part-timers.) Looks to me like you're doing pretty well with it.

Very well said, i mostly use it on fir, the 13 inch bar is fast to sharpen if you run into dirt or rocks, limbing the tree is also faster and i get into a good rythm with it. 40cc saw cut slower but with a good sharp chain i dont save much time running a 50cc in theese types of woods.

I want one for firewood. I don't always need or want to lug around a saw that weighs 5-10lb more. With as bad as my back is it would be nice. I use a tophandle saw for firewood quite a bit for that weight lol. Husqvarna is having sales all the time might have to break down and just buy one next time they have one of their sales going.

Weak lack of power means you wont pull a long bar like 18 or 20 inch full-compliment chain, but for small jobs where power isn't needed that class of saw makes up for everything with how light they are

i mostly use 13 inch, i have 15 and 20 inch bars also if the 13 inch doesent do the job

@ForestryNorth tho is 20 with full comp not too much for 40cc? In the video you could hear the rpm fall down drastically with that 13 or 15 inch bar

It's usually dull chains that are the problem more than a lack of chainsaw power,

I have given my small saw away as I don't use them . I have found many times that there ended up stuff that needed cutting that was too big for the little saws. I have never found anything that was to small to cut with my 661. I do change bar length now and then between 25 and 36"

I prefer big saws with short bars. Muh ms460’s got 18”s and 16”s. Muh 385xp’s got 20”s. My lil 346xp’s carry 16”s but I climb with those and don’t bother ground work with them. Not enough powah

Is a good saw for what it is. But that job just looked painful. Longer bar territory for sure. I mean yeah you cut it down no argument there and if you're happy with it then by all means keep doing what makes you happy but there is no way I'm putting that much effort in the cutting down a tree that shouldn't take that much effort. All those extra cuts for no reason. Unless you just like to be bent over forever. I'm too old for that. If you cut trees like that down on the regular jump up to a 562 with the 24-inch bar. And then tell me your life is not way easier. Must just be a European thing about using these itty bitty saws with the shortest bars you can put on them. Makes no sense. Or better yet on those smaller trees you got the 562 with a 20-in bar. I would use that 543 saw as a bucket saw or a limbing saw. You said you were still learning. I'm telling you learn to love a longer bar.

In Norway 13-inch is standard, and every saw 50cc and down comes with a 13 inch from the store, i have a 560 xpg with a 20-inch but for jobs like this its overkill and to heavy for my preference. I dont feel like its much effort at all using my settup, its good for the body as long as you are using the right techniques.
@Mightycaptain
@Mightycaptain Ай бұрын
@ForestryNorth there is a better way. That's all I'm advising here. I would have put the same trees down in less than half the time. Just think about it so you're going to carry a saw that weighs just a little more for half the time. And that right there makes any argument to the contrary kind of moot. And in the arsenal of saws that you have. Slap a 20-inch bar on the 550 and save yourself a lot of time for just a small penalty in weight. Carrying a slightly lighter saw for twice as long doesn't it make you smarter or more efficient. If that was your only saw then that would be one thing but it is not your only saw.

You showed why not to run a 40cc saw. You were bent over for quite a long time trying to cut that tree down. My ported 60 and 70cc saws make quick work of cutting down a tree and I am standing up and bucking it once it is down. Much less fatigue on my body.

As long as it’s just for personal firewood then it’s fine, but this pace of work would have you fired within a week on a production crew. So this displacement size is for home use, not for commercial use at all. Also overall throttle control and pressure on bar is not impressive at all in this video, not a skilled sawyer in my opinion.
