I had these views about a liter bike until I actually bought one and been riding it daily now I cant go back. The torque, longer gearing, comfort, they just feel more planted to the ground and always have all the power you need to have fun BUT at the same time you can ride it just like a 600 and chill not having to shift over and over around town. All that matters is that you're happy with what you ride in the end though :)

I started on a R6 that I built in my garage with my father. I'm so thankful I did and if wasn't for you responding to my messages I may have never got to experience the R6. I honestly loved it so much and I'm glad I did. I now ride a 2008 R1 and I probably wouldn't be if it wasn't for you, thank you chase!

My first bike was an 2001 R6 and I think it is the perfect bike period. I was the perfect bike for me to start on because if it's step engine characteristic. After I out grew it' power I just started modifying it. At one point I can just throttle it up in first second and just about third gear. I could beat the wheels off a liter bike light to light and dispatch most people in the back roads of South Hampton Roads VA. Now I have my 2004 R1 and it was something else. Pure Power and speed! Love the bike especially showing what an Yamaha can do against other bikes in that time period. Since everybody loved the GSXR and the ZX10 in my area. Top speed is where this R1 reign supreme and it was as I dispatched them all with this bike even the might ZX14 was greeted to my exhaust pipes. But, the R6 is where you can have the most fun, especially in the curves. I think the R6 is king!

I grew up riding and racing 2 strokes. Id agree with you about the powerband, it is very strong and there's not a lot of gradual increases. Now, if you ever got the chance to ride say a KTM 250XC-W or 300XC-W, you actually have different power valves and power mapping. With those enduro specific bikes, you can tune that engine for low end power and smooth powerbands. Bikes have changed so much in the past decade, even in just 4 years. Bikes are so diverse and personalized these days there is a bike for literally EVERYONE these days. It's just a matter of choosing whatever you like :)

Great video! It's refreshing to see a 600 to liter bike conversation that doesn't involve hating on liter bikes. It is funny Yummi mentioned the 2007 GSX-R 600 as I purchased that recently as a track bike and I agree that it does feel like a large bike. In some respects, it works perfect for me coming from an R1 as I'm already used to that size.

I agree 100% with the two stroke comment. I have had a YZ125 and 250 and am used to that kick in the powerband. I am on a ninja 300 now while i learn the road and miss the two stroke powerband kick. I cant wait to get an r6 and get that aggressive rush of power back.

R6 is a great bike! Little too tall for me, I am considering getting either a CBR600rr/ZX6R/GSXR600 in about 2 years after I put enough mileage on my '15 ER6N. Suzuki releasing a new GSXR600 with the updated looks and instrument panel of the '17 GSXR1000 concept would be a quick buy for me. Absolutely love how comfy the GSXRs are compared to the competition.

Couldn't agree more with the R6 argument. The R6 was my first bike as well. There is a learning curve to the throttle if you've never dealt with the turbo in a car at the minimum. With that said another bike would be more forgiving while learning to shift mid corner because of that so Sudden shift in power.

I've had my GSXR-600 for almost 7 years and I don't really feel the need to move up to a liter bike. If I got a new sportbike now I might go for a GSX S750 or maybe a Yamaha FZ-09. I'm actually thinking of keeping the GSXR for fun weekend riding and getting something like a Versys or Vstrom for trips and commuting. I don't get the people that think the goal of riding is to work your way up to a liter bike.

Commuting? Freeway and street, FZ-09. Power, torque, seating position, and MPG for a sportbike. If you want the super sport ergonomics then go with the R6/R1 or any other similar bike. Haven't been on one, but the CBR 600/1000rr is from what I've heard is a little more super sport street rider friendly. What are your thoughts of the FZ-09 and all the items you cover in the video?

R6 is designed to be raced, gear ratio and the engine suppose to give you most of the power on higher RPM in each gear to have maximum acceleration in each gear with minimum waste of engine capacity and give you efficient engine braking as well. It is such a great machine anybody can get if you are a rider you have to own one

In fairness I expect all the new tech to trickle down to the 600s in the next few years, right now it's very new for all manufacturers, and that's why it's in the superbike class. I can't wait for 600s with the 6-degree gyros and traction control, those will be a blast.

I started on a 2007 R6 , and I’m only 5’5 about 150-160 pounds . If you are thinking about getting a 600 period you should expect some power behind it . To say it’s not good to start on a R6 or say it’s a bad idea is ridiculous keep in mind I’ve never ridden any other bike other then a 150 for about 4 minutes . The R6 is a great starter bike one because of the low revs low speed thing and two because of the high revs fast speed power band . If you want a 600 you obviously wanna have some fun going fast from time to time . If you are “scared” of speed wtf are u doing looking for a motorcycle in the first place . Buy a grom which is basically a slow scooter . But yeah if anyone wants to start riding a R6 will do you just fine . Just remember to start slow and gradually get to where you wanna be with the damn thing .

I agree, I have owned both the R1 and the FZ1 and have kept the 600 through both of them. Yeah, the power is orgasmic but it's not absolutely necessary and a 600 gets down just fine. And it is 3 motors in 1. And that's not just from a squid, I put 10,000 miles on the R1, 5,000 on the FZ1 and just over 52,000! On my 600. No typo there. 50k it is obscenely practical for commuting and daily riding. Why else would I choose it over a R1?

I got my license last year. Practice rode alot with private instructor on my own bike, a Kawasaki Z750 ABS -09. I think i practice rode for about 2500km and then took the test and passed. I rode about 3500km with license. That´s a total 6000km (3728 miles). I rode the bike for like two and a half months and then sold it so i rode alot under a short period of time. I just bought a Yamaha R6 2003 and have tested it two times. Its still winter in Sweden today it was warm (44 F) but its ride able with good clothing. The first impressions of the R6 is its a way better bike considering safety and weight distribution. The Kawi was way to heavy, front heavy machince with lousy brakes. The R6 is a balanced samurai sword with fantastic brakes. I am absolutely sure of that the R6 is a safer bike for me to ride than the Z750 =) Im new with road bikes but have ridden some seasons of motocross and most important, possesing a natural feeling for riding machines, machines with power. I loove my yammi =)

I've been riding for years, a lot of different bikes, a lot of different 600's. My 2002 R6 that I bought new in 2002 was by far my favorite 600. The only reason I would move to the R1 is purely because I love the sound. A buddy of mine bought a R6 for his first bike and I warned him how the bike would "take off" at around 6000 in you. He the preceded to almost kill himself because he didn't believe me.

good video, i love the way an r6 sounds when you hit that power band, to be honest it has such a bad ass motor sound with a stock exhaust, maybe its the intake or something, but those things are bad ass. all the 600cc's i've ridden in my lifetime, the yamaha had the feeling that it had the most power, and i think it was because of the powerband. i love the way they look too, lol, looks like a cat about to attack somthing. and considering a liter bike would be a possibility but remember, these things weigh more. stronger frame, bigger motor, basically bigger stronger HEAVIER parts to contain the power of a 1000cc motorcycle. i ride a damn 200cc and i have a hell of a time on it.. shit people ride groms haha, i guess you have fun on 2, preferably one no matter what you are on.

It's so disappointing that most people seem to think it's only either a 600 or 1000.. like, there's a ton of bikes on both sides of the spectrum of both of those. For instance, with the R6, a lot of people will gravitate towards it, and then go straight to something like the R1 once they feel it's "lacking".. meanwhile you got a ton of insane bikes like the Daytona 675, GSX-R750, Nuda 900R, etc, in between those. (Hell, the Daytona 675(r) would probably outrun both the R6 and R1, "but it's not a liter bike *mimimi*" is what gets "preached"). More people need to open up their minds to other bikes!

The R6 has that huge "boost" at high rpms, which isn't a bad thing. In fact i would argue that the feeling you have when you get surprised by the acceleration its the best feeling in the world. Which is why i find the cbr600rr kinda boring to ride, i know its faster but that R6 boost makes you feel like you're going faster.

I don't understand the fixation with low end torque on a 600. The engine can rev upto 16k, just shift a little later. That way, I get to do rev-matching down shifts every time I stop/slow down, and feel like a boss doing so.

Chase. Get the s1000rr. I watch all your videos. I think it would really suit you well in red. All the tech int it. The feel it has. It behaves like the ultimate japanese bike and is really comfortable. Would love to see you ride one and give your opinion. Greetings from the netherlands.

I started on an r6, lots of fun but I was responsible enough to not get myself into trouble, ive gone stupid fast and can confirm that around 11k rpm it pulls hard

Hey, I test rode an 2015 R6, and when we left the parking lot for the ride, I was like the bike was making awesome sounds, but i wasn't going anywhere LOL!!( i ride a ZX14), no torque!! But at the end of the ride I was thinking of buying one.

I want to get an r6 as my first. I drive a supped up crx more oriented towards track use. Also would think it would take me minimum of a month of riding to be comfortable with my machine to do anything like I do I'm my cars though. But still the r6 will still have a slower top speed but I'm not all about the straight like garbage. As for racing as a track bike I feel like it would take me years for my skills to surpass the r6 capabilities and that's why I want one. cause like you said you can drive it like a 300 at first.

i dont blame you guys for not upgrading. i have a fz6r and i probably wont upgrade for a long time. and if i do ill probably keep the fz6r for commuting to work or w.e... either that or ill get a sv650 or something along that line.

Love my r6 on the track but not enough torque on the street. Tuono is the best street bike IMO. That’s why you always need multiple bikes!

I didn't see any indicators on your bike on pictures or in videos. Do you not have to have indicators installed on your motorcycle in the us? Here in germany we are not alowed to enter the streets without indicators on our vehicle. ^^

I like my xrs 900,because it has low end torque from idle all the way to redline.I might have to put a small wind screen to make the air stop hitting me in the chest at higher speeds on the interstate.my old yamaha 650 maxim has very low power until it reaches 6000 rpm's then it pulls like a freight train,I still love to ride it even with the new bike, but I love the torque from idle on.I wish the brakes on the 650 maxim were better.

Obviously everyone will have their own preference and perfect bike, but for the way I ride the 600 (or maybe even 750) class is perfect. 95% of the time I'm just taking it easy enjoying the road.
