One person can make a difference and start a new way of thinking, especially in medicine. Dr. Goobie in my opinion has made that difference and is helping millions.❤

Agreed! Equally inspiring is not only his video candidly sharing his experience but also the support and favorable discussion it has sparked. Hopefully one step toward creating a healthier culture in medicine

As a society, we need to move away from sickcare and towards true healthcare because people are corrupted by money and the medical profession is a business and people get into business to make money. People who own franchises such as fast food knows their food is harmful but turn a blind eye because it makes them rich; this is the case for most businesses to a grater or lesser degree.

I agree that the fee-for-service model can create perverse incentives by focusing more on the volume of care rather than outcomes. However, not all for-profit businesses operate this way. In healthcare, there are legitimate concerns about profits sometimes conflicting with patient care, but there are also many private companies and for-profit institutions that do great work, driving innovation and improving access to care

@@Dyl_and_Nav That may be true but they are a minority. This innovation you state for for profit is mainly motivated by money in hopes of profit; it’s not an accident that big pharna are one of the major culprits for human suffering., followed by the sick care industry and the food industry complex. Are you aware that the executives that worked for the big tobacco years ago have simply taken over the food industry? Why do Americans spend the most on healthcare but rank near the bottom regarding outcomes. Europeans are better at protecting their citizens than America. Drugs cost more here and the sugar industry is running rampant here as compared to Europe. It’s sickening how much excess sugar is destroying the health of Americans and causing metabolic diseases. It’s not an accident. The sugar industry is responsible for so much suffering. All for a buck.

It's called America. Toxic culture, deluded, obsessed with anything unnatural.

If one likes a career in medicine in order to heal people, there are several options that do not need to be under the pharma drugs direction, like putting value in food to heal people, or research in order to find the cure rather than manage diseases. I hope that pre med students who have a genuine interest in the wellbeing of patients would continue to be doctors or else the medical field will be left to those who are in medicine only for the money and would therefore follow the dictate of greedy companies in the health field.

All true. I too hope premedical students can find their passion sooner than later, as like you said, there are many meaningful and fulfilling ways to contribute to the wellbeing of others outside of direct clinical care

Curious, what career options do MDs have if they don't do the clinical route? 4 yrs of Undergrad, 4 years of Medical school, and 3 plus years of residency is at least 11 yrs of Education. What other options are there? Thanks in advance for your reply!

Hi there! While the most clearly defined path for a medical school graduate is certainly residency, there are other options. You may just need to do some more networking and take initiative to whatever your calling is. I know MDs who have gone into research, consulting, finance, academic advising and teaching, biotech/pharma, and startups/entrepreneurship. While the MD/DO degree may not have as much leverage or be needed in these other fields, generally individuals who graduate from medical school are highly motivated, talented people, and there are skillsets developed through years of education, so they can find success in other fields outside of clinical medicine.

Sending my support and showing my admiration for your brave choice 😊. If you don't mind my asking, what is the non-clinical path you are pursuing, lgiven your top medical educational education)?

Thank you! I appreciate your comment. I have entered the business world in the aesthetics and wellness space. My focus is more on team building and operational support, and we have great staff providing the clinical care to help our clients look and feel their best. I may create videos around this in the future.

I found Dr. Goobie to be sincere and his story inspiring. Having said that, it`s also a bit concerning. You mentioned in your video that we have a shortage of physicians already. My fear is, Dr. Goobie`s video may compel other talented surgeons to follow a similar course of action as Dr. Goobie which could create an even greater shortage of talent. However, one of the underlying themes of Dr. Goobie`s viral video is that we have the power -- in many cases -- to heal ourselves. That is a very powerful message that needs *more* support!

Love these reflections! Agreed that if his video were to inspire a mass exodus of doctors, that would be an unfortunate result. But hopefully instead it can inspire change. We need physicians who recognize the limitations of their practice, yet are motivated to push for meaningful changes that enhance both their well-being and their ability to serve patients. And for now, for every doctor contemplating leaving medicine, I see many hopeful premeds ready to rise to the challenge if given the opportunity, inspired by that possibility of making a difference. We need healers in medicine!

That’s not the reason we have shortages, how about expensive rent, no support, hard to get in!!!

In this fallen, and imperfect world, many of us need medical intervention during our time here on earth. When we get to our perfect, and eternal home we will no longer require medical intervention ever again. But for now, it’s a must.
