I was skeptical about fitting in one of these at 6’4” initially but was surprised I did fit okay. I lowered the driver side seat another 1’ 1/2” and it’s perfect. Best fun I’ve had in years. Got away from German cars after 20yrs and won’t look back. 😄🤘🏼

I've just bought a 67 plate and literally searched your title! Had a bad day today, i bought the car last night, so first drives, drove out today after a stressful work day and oh my! I felt so much happier

You are spot on about this car being a stress relief every time you drive it. Plus you learn earlier on about that blind spot. First time I experience it I almost got destroyed by a big truck. Never make that mistake again.

Both transmission options are good. The MX-5 being generally a "driver’s car" makes the manual a more valuable choice! It’s usually the one to get.

Nice review. Thanks for sharing. Actually, I rally liked your "stress relief" reminder. I was a happy young man and MGA´59 coupe owner back in 1970. I moved and was forced to sell it. I still have the love for MGA in my heart.A dream would be a well maintained MGA. But, second best would be a used Miata :-)

I love my MX-5 so much, always a pleasure taking her for a drive... I used to drive a second hand 2008 NC 2.0 for 6 years, switched a few months ago for a 2017 ND RF 1.5. The fun is definitely there, even with 30 bhp less. The ND drives much better than the NC overall, the only downside for me is the lack of space (not even a glovebox !), but the fun level is so high. Good thing if you live in Belgium (as I do): taxes are much lower on the 1.5 and the fuel consumption too 😁

The NC is a great car. I’ve been daily driving mine for four years and love it. It’s so good I can’t bring myself to trade for a new one. Every time I test drive a new one I realize how good the NC is. If you can find a low mileage clean NC buy it. I wanted a manual but found a beautiful automatic withe the power hard top. It’s just amazing fun and so affordable compared to other convertible sports cars.

I moved from my NC1 to my ND1 last year and I have to say, I agree with you. the feeling of hydraulic power steering is what i miss the most, the electric power steering in the ND is a but floppy. and the main gripe i have about the ND is that it doesnt have the lap heater that the NC had :(

thanks for video 'infinite shifts' by the way the manual says always have the car on when roof goes up and down because it takes higher amps from battery and they caution you so battery doesn't go dead (disregard if car was on and i just couldn't hear it in video)

I know I am the "odd man out" because I see just about zero appeal to driving with "the top down". So I would have the hard top and seldom if ever push the button to drive it as a convertible. So, my question--which I don't think you covered is, "how good is the sound deadening on the highway and around town"?

The RF looks nice but for me there are too many moving parts. Also the owners manual has a section telling you what to do if the top sticks open. So the top sticking must not be an isolated occurrence. I can also operate my soft top at up to 35 mph.

I am on my fourth MX-5 and now drive a 2010 GT PRHT auto. After owning 2 manuals and now my second auto, I prefer the auto now after driving manual trucks for 45 years. With the paddle shifters, it is just as much fun as a manual. The RF to me is a coupe with a big sunroof. Not a true convertible. And noisy.
@Trigger-xw9gq
@Trigger-xw9gq 19 күн бұрын
You are so wrong about the automatic. In this car, with the option to drive the AT in manual mode, plus the paddle shifters, PLUS the "Sport Mode", it is in some ways better than the manual. Yes, old automatics were pretty lame, with just "D" as the only choice, but this car in the AT is great. I know, I have one. Have you even tried one, or are you just regurgitating old, outdated thinking?

Each generation it gets better? Oh yes the 2027 will be electric, automatic heavy slug. With a 100 mile range. Maybe a back seats. Oh yes welcome to the modern age. Just like the Integral 4 seater. The 3500 pound Miata. It will truly be Americanized. Nice and sporty just Like a four door Civic!

Ive owned two., a 1990 and a 1993. I loved them both. Driving one in Montana, where men drive trucks and sheep are nervous, I was accosted almost every day because "only women and gay men drive Miatas". I was run off the road twice where the hot headed guy tried to provoke a fistfight. Just sayin', be prepared. The newer models look really cool and maybe things have changed.

The Miata is a great car no doubt but it is definitely NOT the most connected car on the road. If you believe it is drive a 4c or better yet an Elise or Emira. The Miata feels soft by comparison. To say nothing of real track rats like an Atom or BAC.

Yes, if you spend way more you can get a better car. Most of us can't afford more car than the Miata, though, so the comparison isn't useful

Beautiful car. But. Weak engine. No power, abysmal torque output. Plus my seat was all the way back. Could not recline. And no grip. A turbo engine and wider tires and just a bit bigger. Would be needed to make it a real sports car. Sold my BBR Club

Grip can be detrimental to fun, MIatas are less grippy on purpose. Sounds like you never pushed the car to it's limits and danced with it. It has lower limits on purpose, that's what makes it fun on roads other than racetracks. A real sports car? It's the most raced car in the world. It's built with motorsports in mind, like the way it can keep the oil pressure constant through high G turns. Sounds like you never pushed the car to it's limit and danced with it. It has lower limits on purpose, that's what makes it fun on roads other than racetracks.
