It should also be noted that even though he threatened the Rumbling, the vow of renouncing war made it so that even if the world was to pass judgement and attack them, the people of Eldia would never fight back with the power of the titans. You also have to remember that he basically "pretended" to lose all the titans other than the founding titan to Marley during the fake war, leaving the humanity beyond the walls to basically have he ability to steamroll the people of the walls should the hate of the rest of the world decide that the genocide of the Eldians was their path to atonement. It was just the Marleyans and the greedy world that disturbed the balance, wanting the hydrocarbon resources of Paradis that decided to attack despite the fake threat of the rumbling. What a HELL of an episode. An hour of nothing but carnage and despair. This is the most anticipated and considered the best episode of AOT, according to the fans that is and ig we can vouch too. Aside from Hange's heart-shattering sacrifice and all, We now see Erens perversion for freedom at full display, which I think is somewhat overlooked. There's more to it than just expressing his immense guilt infront of the child(Ramzi), He poured out his bottled up emotions by admitting the fact that he did what he did because of an unfulfilled dream and disappointment. Eren is, as Kenny would say, drunk on something, an idealistic freedom of a world beyond the walls that simply doesn't exist, Eren dreamed of an empty world without people, with rivers of lava, vast seas and deserts, a world to explore and discover, and instead there were people who had taken away his freedom. He internalized that idea of freedom based through the contents of Armins book, now that it doesn't exist, He initiated the rumbling primarily for the sake of that selfish desire. To him, It's far more important than saving the island, hence recontexualizing his speech that eradicating the world is merely a pretext. in short, he's just like a child throwing a tantrum because he couldn't grab what he wants despite the guilt and all. Eren is the personification of contradiction and irony, be it his actions, emotions, and the leitmotif encompassing his character. He's a god yet a devil, a victim and a perpetrator, Selfless for sacrificing his life for his loved ones yet Selfish for trampling on others lives for his desires, desires freedom yet a slave to his unfulfilled ideal freedom and nature, hes human and a monster.

The only thing I'm wondering is if the freedom scene got altered slightly in the anime because (and this could totally just be me misremembering) the clouds kid Eren was soaring on top of while saying his iconic "This is freedom" line was framed in a way to make it appear that the "clouds" he was seeing was actually the steam from the colossal titans in the manga. The reason why Eren started on this path was because of Dina Fritz's titan form eating her mom, and here we can see that a similar lookin person set Reiner on his path (this further proves how much similar Eren and Reiner are)

10:15 Armin & Annie Like it has been established since Season 1 that they both had a closer relationship and at least huge respect from Annie's side to Armin. Like, let's start. Armin being one of the few people she was shown interacting with, Annie not killing Armin like she did the other scouts in her initial attack upon the fact that it risked exposing her, she only going along with their plan to get to the tunnel because it was Armin that asked her there, her saying in her reveal that she was glad she could be a good person to Armin. On Armin's side, him refusing to expose her upon finding out she was using a slain corper's equipment. This isn't just a random act of mercy or doubt given that in doing that he was endangering his, his friends and entire squad's lives, again, in their scouts interaction Armin saying how he was impressed by her uniquely. Now, all this is more on Annie's side than Armin's so Berthold's feelings might play a larger part on Armin's side but it is more than just the time in the crystal for Annie.
@13apinoe Жыл бұрын
14:20 Personally, I felt like it fit Armin’s new role as a leader. Unlike everyone else, Armin was the one who saw some use to the explosives, not because he wanted to hurt Eren, but because he felt that it would give them some opportunity to stand up against him, especially after finding out just how huge he had become. So I think his decision made sense for him to make over the rest because it reflects him as a strategist and also shows how he’s grown from being shy to being more confident.

11:27 I personally don't believe Armin's crush on Annie is because of Bertholdt's memories. This was part of the lie Eren used to distance himself from Mikasa and Armin. He also convinced Mikasa that her Ackerman blood was manipulating her to protect him, but that turned out to be a lie too. Everyone thought Eren was being manipulated by Zeke into going along with his plan, but it turned out he had his own motives. It goes without saying that "freedom" is a major theme in this show, and in the case of Mikasa and Armin I think they have free will when it comes to who they love.

I think it makes sense that Armin would want to be prepared for anything. He probably assumed they might need it to get through any colossals or maybe he didn’t know Zeke’s status. A good strategist wouldn’t just throw away something useful like that in my opinion.

It’s honestly insanley how well written this anime is. Isayama did such an outstanding job writing the characters and especially eren. And the plot twists were insane too. AOT is just a masterpiece

He really butchered the ending. I am hoping the anime corrects the mistakes of the manga, but based on what we've seen so far I won't hold my breath.

i think armin said to hold on to the explosives purely due to his thought of erin as his best friend and him thinking to kill erin for me shows armin knows what needs to be done due to his connections with erin.
@h4g00r4 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. After all, Armin said, "you can't change anything unless you can discard part of yourself too. To surpass monsters, you must be willing to abandon your humanity." Also, Eren said in season 3 that "it's Armin who's going to save humanity!".

To me and a lot of friends, the Beast Titan we saw was a mix between the original form and warhammer because they "merged" with Eren but still with Zeke, mind controlled, inside. But since you mentioned it was a "copy" this makes me think now that Eren could literally summon any existing (or even past since i'm guessing he knows what they looked like?) titans copies at will to defend himself against his friends

I love the continuous paralells of choice they weave into this show Reiner chose to go against his squad and insist they continue their mission. He chose war Catalysed the entire show Marley chose to 'test' the vow renouncing war, even though it literally psychologically prevented anyone on the island from rising up. They chose war Again, catalysed the entire show Grisha very very nearly chose co-existence. And if he had, the power of the Founder wouldn't have ended up with Eren. So Eren made sure that didnt happen, because it's specifically the choices of war that got him where he needed to be. Theres a good 20 examples of someone choosing war rather than attempting co-existence and in each, a different choice could have changed the entire scope of the show. Even in this episode, even though we're beyond the whole 'choosing differently would have given us a different outcome' stage of things, look at the airships. As the refugees pointed out, the absolute best chance of surviving the Rumbling is to just fly over it. And plotting an escape route would have put them as far away from the Founder as possible, meaning they wouldnt have got swiss cheese'd by Zeke. Had they chose to use the airships to go around the Rumbling, there's a very high chance everyone in thatr base and the refugees that came after would have survived. But they chose war. Every single pilot and solider died and the refugees have nowhere to run, more or less sealing their fate too. And I love that they dont do it like a good majority of animes, where we end up with a sole antagonist pulling all the strings and wanting nothing more than chaos/destruction. We always end up hurtling towards an inevitable conclusion that's been pre-ordained since way before the point we started watching. In AoT, they've always been very careful to make sure we both blame and sympathise with each of those choices. We see the suffering behind the choice. There's no sole antagonist. Just humans making impossible choices. I always wondered why there was SO much focus on the trip to the lake in season 1 (Eren/Armin/Reiner/Bertoldt). Because they wanted to make sure that by the time we know who those two are, we're already well aware of the fact they've come to care about these 'island devils' to the point where they want to encourage and comfort them. The music, the lighting, the setting, it was all 'this is a pure moment. These people are all driven by war and pain. And when we strip all that away all you're left with is 4 brothers that not only want their own dreams realised, but their friends too.' That could have been the reality of the show. But war gave us the opposite. And now we're at the point where the literal only thing that can save humanity at this point is a group of people standing up and going 'no, even after everything, we choose co-existence' A timeless masterpiece.

Missed these! I think Armin mentioned the ship’s bombs not cause he wanted to kill Eren but moreso it highlighted that he is the “strategist” as opposed to Reiner or others.

The scene of Eren walking the streets is actually after he leaves the Eldian Freedom talk thing that the scouts were attending, then he saved Ramzi. Eren & Mikasa being invited to their tents happened the day before before Ramzi isn't injured there.

If you haven't read manga,or got spoiled please don't read following, just my ideas on the show you may get spoiled if you read, sorry I think both zeke & eren wanted to end titan domination. But the approach is different. Zeke is willing to sacrifice his own kind eldians from having ability to reproduce where eren doesn't like that approach at all. In one episode eren says that his friends are the most important people to him & sure he does want them to live happy long lives. Even if they took zeke approach they have to still secure the island from outside world + they don't have the chance to reproduce (some may not agree but family is important thing when it comes to fulfilling the purpose of life)I think eren isn't non emotional monster who doesn't have any kind of empathy towards humanity outside the world. But when it comes to choosing, he will definitely choose his people over outside world. Also he wants to stop people from eating cycle where they transfer titan abilities. So titan domination should be comes to end its either by stopping the curse of ymir or by zeke plan. I personally don't see any other option to end titan domination. Even if zeke plan was stopping from eldians having children I don't think that will finish the curse of ymir who have suffered thousands of years of slavery. So the best way to end ymir curse is to teach her that lesson by forcing mikasa to kill her lover eren. Eren may saw this beforehand & there were no any other option to end this by forcing mikasa willingly to end his life to end curse of ymir. To go that extend may be he wants to destroy whole world & then ultimately mikasa will kill him willingly. I once saw a post that saying that all 9 titans are characteristics, personalities of the founder ymir. So attack titan may be a part of her who isn't obey to rules, always seek for freedom while other titans are not like that. Maybe Eren is the best shot after 1000 years to teach ymir that lesson. Eren is slave of his own reality. I think thats why he saying it to mikasa that he hate someone who is slavery ( sorry I can't remember the dialogues but that scene where eren beats armin & say hurtful things to mikasa) I saw a video of you saying that eren didn't have that love towards mikasa, kinda true but I don't think in that way. There are many situation later in the show that he shows his love towards her but not in a way that jean shows. these are just my thoughts & they might be terribly wrong. Just my opinions. I would seriously love to see them together atleast in an alternative universe but idk that may never happen. But still this is the no.1 show in my list & i don't think I will ever see any show that comes same Edit : I haven't read the manga fully may be this idea may wrong, but got spoiled about the show from manga readers. Basically I know the ending in manga. Just my opinions may be correct, may be wrong.

It's not Berthold crush that transfered to Armin, but more like his own compassion and desire for understanding, compared to Bert's memories of Warrior's hellish upbrining, made him empathize with Annie, especially after Uprising arc when he started to have doubts about his own morality.
