As a picky player when it comes to wearing jerseys for different clubs, I can confidently say that Adelaide, Hawthorn and Melbourne here look awesome. Keep it up matty

Good thing you didnt add white on essendon because i reckon st. Kilda or Sydney would give them a law suit if essendon released a white version of the sash

Yeah I think anything else is a bit too similar, mainly to the Saints but light grey works well and looks great, no idea why they got rid of it

Port has a lot jumpers pick from in their club history they could pink. and blue the were in first season in 1980

This makes complete sense to me. White is neutral, and teams can still keep their identity and display their colours and designs, just in a more subtle way. They can use it to get creative and have retro designs like some of yours here, plus the contrast with the white is a great look. It works very well in the NHL for example, some white "away" jerseys have become very iconic.

Yep and they’d only where them occasionally when needed so it wouldn’t be like they’re replacing their other guernseys

Disagree. White should be avoided if necessary. Teams need to consider not wearing white shorts, and instead work with the AFL when there is a clash. For example, if Collingwood play Geelong, then Collingwood must always wear black shorts and Geelong wear white. Same if Eagles play Geelong. Eagles must always wear the blue and Geelong white. If Eagles play Bulldogs, then Eagles must never wear white. In 1988 they wore all yellow against Bullies. Melb must never wear white shorts against Bulldogs etc... Bulldogs should have three alternatives. All red, all white and all blue.

Is this based on player feedback? Viewer feedback? Tbh i personally have no trouble distinguishing the guernseys in the combos you mentioned as a spectator on tv (live they're pretty far away anyway). Don't feel white is really necessary for every team , but interesting opinion.

hot take but the AFL needs to use the NHL clash system. when you play away, you play in a majority white kit, no exceptions. I think for the AFL, the back of your clash kit should be all white besides sponsors and numbering, and the front should be like, 65-70% white. the remaining 35% colour is enough for a logo, a stripe, a chevron whatever you need to distinguish your team. to contrast this, home kits should be limited in the amount of white they're allowed to have as well.

I don't understand the need for white clash jumpers. Talking about this, Dustin Fletcher said that he had no problem distinguishing similar jumpers when playing against teams like Melbourne so its definitely not a player thing. It's the broadcasters that lobby the AFL to make teams have them for the fans at home. I can't see how Brisbane home and Essendon home clash with each other, i think white shorts is enough. That being said, in rugby union, they've introduced Colourblindness in rugby where teams can't wear certain colours. For example, Ireland who wear green can't play against a Wales team wearing red because colourblind folk struggle to distinguish the colours. One of them has to wear an alternate kit when they normally wouldn't have to. There's probably a situation or two where something similar is happening in the AFL

Eagles should only every be blue or yellow. If that means all yellow like in 1987/88 against Bulldogs then so be it. Geelong should wear white shorts most of the time. Collingwood when there is a clash should wear their traditional mostly white jumper with white shorts... nothing to do with home and away, just about what the best match up is. Dockers stuffed up by losing red and green off the jumper. Clearly that would be costing them merchandise dollars.

@@BDub2024match day uniforms should always be based off who is home and away, home team should always wear their home guernsey and shorts, away team wears white shorts. If there is still a jumper clash, away team should have a clash guernsey suited for the clash. Collingwood v geelong could be solved by having cats in their regular home with blue shorts, and pies in an all black guernsey with the retro flying magpie and maybe some quarter length white stripes, on white shorts. Hate seeing home teams wear white shorts just as much as I hate seeing both teams wearing home against one another

I agree. Use the colours of the team properly and use the alternative colour shorts. Ess should wear black or red shorts most times. The jumper should combine with the shorts to provide an alternative. Sometimes clubs may wear their home strip and dark shorts away. Then wear an alternative and red shorts at home. Whatever clashes the least. But over a season it would all even out. Eagles could wear yellow jumpers and yellow shorts sometimes if they play Bulldogs (happened in 1987).

@@mattn1 mate what you are basically saying is, if clubs have the same colours, they clash. No they don’t. Teams play all the time that have the same colours. And it’s never a problem. Seriously, when did you lad see a player actually think an opponent was a team mate? It never happens.

@@mattn1 I reckon throw down the gauntlett. Give me some examples and I can tell you how to avoid the clash. When Saints vs Essendon (either home or away). Saints should wear mainly red jumper (or white) with red shorts (or white). Essendon would always wear all black.. and so on. Melb vs Ess trickier. Melb could wear lighter jumper with red shorts. Or alternatively, Essendon wear a jumper with more red in and red shorts.

I think there’s an argument that Collingwood need an all-white jumper too. Even though it is one of their two main colours, the two jumpers they wear are not different enough and could benefit from an all white jumper with one thick black stripe down the middle or something

@@mattn1 Collingwood should wear their current home jumper with black shorts always when they play Geelong. Geelog should always wear white shorts. That would be a sufficient alternative. Collingwood should wear their traditional mainly white jumper and whte shorts always against Carlton. It all evens out. Sometimes teams wear alternative jumpers and shorts at home... then wear their main strip and shorts away. It would even out.

Collingwood wore all white against Swan Districts in 1982. But look they have two main strips,. If they wear the right colour shorts and jumper depending on who they play then its not much of a clash with anyone. Only North really. Teams need to stop thinking of wearing white shorts and away jumper away. Instead purely look at the team they're playing and work with the AFL.
