"The setting [Cha'alt] seems to have an undercurrent of Dark Sun meets 80's Dune meets the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon in a dark alley someplace."

I can't agree enough. It very quickly became my favorite system when I discovered it in 2020. Since then, I have gotten involved in the Goodman Games Road Crew program and have been plundering tombs and seeing grim fates to my hearts content!

DCC is easily my second favorite system, just under Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea 🤘 Both changed my table permanently

Well, I’ve gotta be honest, I’d never heard of AS&SH before, but it looks cool. I definitely need to check it out!

DCC is my big rpg love? no adventure for other systems had such an impact to me like any dcc adventure. even character dying is pure fun ❤ for me its like a fromsoft rpg: you can have much fun and find some big treasures, but is it worth to die for?

I’m currently working on writing a campaign designed for DCC. I’ve run a funnel and I can’t wait to get some leveled characters into trouble or worse

i've run it and it's a been a blast every time. Never a dull moment. The chaos factor can be high but with that the level of "that was so METAL". It is 70's fantasy van art weird and epic. The total opposite of the very well known "forgotten realms". Fighters are RAD in this, as are Dwarves and yes, Dwarf is a class. The magic is amazing. Magic items are amazingly cool. critical hits, failures and MAGICAL failures can be pretty badass. There is not really a meta plot. Ideally, you do a funnel of level 0 townies looking to make it big. Many of them die, the survivors can now level up to 1 in a class. You can home brew adventure or use old modules from other games with a few tweaks. DCC modules are fantastic and with a little narrative glue you can link them into a campaign of site based adventures. As said in the video "This feels like the D&D of my youth" . I was looking for that, I missed it so much and DCC, Shadowdark and Dragonbane have all given me paths back to that wonder, madness and vibrant weirdness that I missed so much in modern popular gaming.

Exactly - there’s just so much craziness baked into the game. The best stories from a DnD game are when the weird wacky stuff happens, and DCC is designed to make those more frequent and more intensely crazy.

DCC smacked me in the face... about a year ago I downloaded the free booklet and then two hours later I ordered the starter combo from Goodman Games. It sparked my imagination from my childhood in the late 80s when I was creating my own fantasy worlds, writing short fiction, and enjoying life before I had to grow up. Now I'm 50, and back to creating... even thinking about doing some 3rd party publishing. Nice vid, dude!

Dude that’s awesome! One of the things I love about TTRPGs in general is the creativity they awaken in me. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

I found your channel from the 3 reasons video and i kinda disagreed with a few points, but understood where you were coming from. It's really interesting to see how your views have changed a bit. I've gotten my players to agree to a DCC campaign and I'm excited to start. You talked about the DND of your youth. Have you looked at Shadowdark? I got my team into that this year and they liked it. I used it as the gateway into DCC.

I’m familiar with Shadowdark. I tried to get into a game at a recent con, but couldn’t make the scheduling work. I’m hoping to play it soon. Thanks for watching!

To me DCC and D&D 5e are two very different things and I like them both. D&D 5e is all story and to me it is Lord of the Rings. In that, I mean it is character focused and metagamingly designed for characters to live. From the classic "Fellowship" party, who dies throughout all three books and never comes back? Boromir. Only one of NINE, throughout the whole thing! All the battles, all the traveling, all the encounters, all the dungeons (yes OG Moria!) only ONE! DCC to me is all Appendix N Sword and Sorcery: Conan and Lankmar. Gritty, deadly, and weird. Tower of the Elephant. Everyone dies but Conan. Il Met in Lankmar two of the main four characters DIE! Adventures are deadly. Dungeons are deadly. Every encounter could be your character's last. It's that feeling the fist time I played D&D 1e where my first character, an unnamed thief, died opening a poison trapped treasure chest right after defeating a goblin on my very first encounter in a dungeon. Old Skool and I love it.

Yeah Chaos. Surfing 🏄♀️ the chaotic wave of True Chaos. Character Agency, the collective brain + unpredictability of the resolutions. The death of DM’s Fiat. RPG are NOT about telling stories. RPG are about living adventures while exploring the unknown and unravel mysteries in first person view mode. RPG is about immersion.
