Riley, you should tell your parents that you need more time to grieve, but the decision is up to them. Just say that you'll get them the dog, but like after Christmas? Say it'll help to fully embrace and love the new dog the way you did with your old one

I'm what most of you would consider an old man, especially when it come to CR and YT. I fully understand what you're saying, my dog of 13 years passed away a few months ago and my wife and daughter wanted a new dog...or even worse a cat. I'm glad we didn't rush into getting another dog but the truth is no matter how long you wait the time will never feel right. It's been 6 months and it still feels too soon. Talk to your parents and tell them what you said in the video, in a respectful way and give them a chance to back out. If they thought it through and really want a dog I'm sure it will feel weird at first but over time you will end up loving the dog and vise versa. One more piece of advice I've learned from years of first hand experience. Never tell a woman she is thinking with her emotions and not logically. It's a one way trip to sleeping on the couch.

Hey Riley, doubt you'll read this, but your thoughts and feelings on a getting a new dog this soon is valid. Personally, I agree it is a bit quicker what I'd deem a usual amount of time before moving on. Regardless of whether they want a new dog because they simply like dogs, feel the need to replace, or any other reason. I think it'd be good to to question what you want, and tell them your thoughts. (Damn that was long) Thx so much for the Remielli quick guide, this will certainly improve my gameplay.

His parents lived long enough to learn to quickly detach from what is gone. And Riley certainly hasn't. Not paying attention to Riley's feelings is both cruel to Riley and the new dog. Sometimes people even need trauma therapy for this. His parent should be thankful for having a mature son and ashamed for even asking Riley to think about this while his wound is healing. Let's protect our Riley at all cost. Don't let him give in to his parents just because we did.

My dog passed away not long ago too... And i didnt get another one yet because i need my time for my grief, our situations are not alike because in your case your parents are in the middle and of course you want to make them happy but i think being your parents they Will understand your feelings if u just communicate them, let them know that you need more time to grief and even to think if u want another dog, they are a huge responsability, living beings that need time, love and even money, one of the best responsabilities of my life but my point is you need to be sure you can and want to do it. So sorry for your loss bro
@joshuahenson4812 Жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about your dog man, I know that's hard. Your parents are well within their right to want another dog but you're also well within yours to want to wait before maybe getting a new one. If you don't want one right now just tell them that you aren't ready for a new dog, if they want to get one on their own they can but you shouldn't be obligated to do it when it affects you. As you get older, its important to understand the dynamic between you and your parents will need to change and that involves you being okay with having adult conversations with them and being able to tell them no (when it comes to certain decisions), and also for them to treat you as a man, not just their son. One final thing, when it comes to pets passing and getting new ones, getting a new pet doesn't have to mean you loved your previous one any less. Some people find that what helps them move on is accepting that their best friend is gone and channeling that love into a new pet. I've found that what hurts the most sometimes is not that they're gone, but now you have nothing to invest that love and attention into and it can leave you feeling torn. Sometimes only time can fill that hole but also its not uncommon for a new pet/person to be the only thing that truly fulfills you. I want to encourage you to make a decision not based on what seems weird or what people will think is too soon, screw everyone else. Make the decision that is going to be good for your emotional health, then tell your parents what you decided and they need to be able to respect that even (especially) if its what they didn't want to hear. Much love from Texas my guy, happy holidays

I think you should say the truth, that you think is weird, and you are no prepared for a new dog. Also, ask them, Why they want new dog so soon, could be an emotional thing...

Very rarely leave comments on any KZbin video. But I watch your videos daily Ryley! Very sorry about your loss. I can see your parents perspective and yours. Everyone greaves and handles loss differently. Getting a dog right away helps your parents feel better and maybe provide closure. They might assume you feel the same way but you don’t. We had to put down my wife’s cat many years ago but for her we got a kitten the next day. My advice is be honest with your parents. Tell them how you feel and how you assume how they feel. Their intentions are not bad or wrong but they don’t align with yours. They need to know that. If doesn’t change their decision that’s fine also. Hopefully this helps. And I hope it works out the best for you and your fam!
@bogomilalexandrov2711 Жыл бұрын
First of all i am so sorry for your loss. Secondly i think you should tell your parents how you feel. There is nothing disrespectful in laying your heart out to the the people who are supposed to care the most about your emotions. Im proud of you for taking their needs so close to your heart but your needs matter too. If you think they can understand maybe even tell them that a new dog cant fully replace the one you miss and that grief is natural and something they have to live and experience. After all it's a part of life and an emotion which makes us human. If they still really want a dog soon, fine, let them get one, but at the very least they should be aware of your emtions. I hope i helped. And i hope that you are fine. We will never forget the ones we love but when we feel grief it is only there to remind us what was real love! Be brave. Say what's on your mind.

I'm sorry for your loss, Ryley. I think you should tell your parents that you wouldn't feel comfortable if a new dog is around so soon. Ask them why do they want one, and maybe try to understand each other. It could even be that they want it so you are not sad, or so that they don't feel sad. Any way, talk to them about it.

About 10 years ago, when I was 11 years old my dog passed away that my parents had even before I was born. I grew up with it my whole life and when my parents brought up the idea of having another dog I remember saying that I could never ever love a dog as much. Now my dad brings up that quote up every time he sees me cuddled with the new one they got. I think we had about a 3 or 4 month period in between dogs tho, so 3 weeks is quite short imo. Maybe talk to them about getting another dog, but at a later date in time, maybe an extra month however long you need necessary. I do think tho at some point you guys should get another dog to love, but it is a big deal and 3 weeks is not a lot of time.

I went through something similar to your dog recently and the ideal is that you take your time to heal, the time will come to have another dog but until you feel ready or fate puts it in your way, but really I recommend waiting

I can see it both ways with the dog situation. Our first dog was 14 and amazing but had to be put down because of cancer and we got a new dog fairly quickly after. I probably felt the same way you do but the second dog ended up being like a literal brother to me and we put him down after 16 years just a couple weeks ago and my life genuinely feels different without him. Maybe this new dog (if adopted) would be one of your best friends ever and help take over what your last one left behind. I would just be honest and open and if they decide to get a new puppy to try and love it like the old one :)

your parents may be accustomed to taking care of a dog in their daily life which is why they mightve asked for a new dog. they probably feel like without them taking care of the dog, a sort of void or hole was made in the family which is all part of the grieving process. the best thing to do is talk to your parents about how you feel especially since you dont want a new dog after such little time has passed. theres nothing wrong with getting a new dog in the future as you can also make good memories but it might be a little early rn.
@kevin-im6ot Жыл бұрын
having a civil conversation with your parents is never disrespectful. you’re simply expressing how you feel and that’s important, they also have to consider how it affects you and not just them. They are most likely grieving but this isn’t the best way to cope. this happened to my family a few years ago and my dad loved our dog so when he passed he immediately wanted another and we all as a family disagreed with him but he got one anyways behind our back. it might have made him feel better but not us.

I think if you personally don’t want to move on from your dog just yet, you should wait. But I personally understand that some people find they miss the companionship a dog provides, and need to feel that love. I lost my dog and we did get a new dog shortly after, and she was the best thing to ever happen to us. Now, she will sadly be passing soon. But this time I’ll wait for another at least a year simply because I’ll have my own place to raise it, or I’d get another one tbh.

I think that getting a dog right after your dog passed might not be the most empathetic thing in the world, but in a way it might help them, or you, get through the grieving process. Then again, it would be a forced scenario since who in their right mind would want a dog right after. But if you think about it long-term the gift will not be something regretful. Ironically I have never owned a pet, just observe the intense connection others build 😁

Its never easy to parent your parents. 😁 In this case you phrased it well that they want a short-term replacement to get over the grieving. You having the emotional maturity to not want a dog immediately might not be well accepted by your parents but please do give it a shot and tell them to give everyone some time. Not sure about cultural differences but have a "gifted" getaway/cruise/trip might be good for you and your family to reset and heal. Good luck!
