@Tyler_W7 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say he has no depth. It's just that depth exists in his visual storytelling rather than his dialog. He definitely has some issues, though. He's inconsistent, and thise inconsistencies only get highlighted when the studio tears his movies up in the edit. That's happened in multiple films he's done, and the director's cuts are all better versions of his movies compared to their theatrical releases. The better director's cut of BVS was just the version that was supposed to go to theaters, but WB panicked and hacked it to shreds like a month before release so they could try to fit it into as many theaters as possible. Zack Snyder's Justice League next to Josstice League is like night and day. He can make good movies. His problem is that he just isn't the person you hire to lay the foundation for a mainline, ongoing continuity. He's the guy whose work you label and experimental, self-contained Elseworlds story. With all that said, I really don't like the movies he has made since his JL came out. Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon are just bad movies. Army of the Dead had issues long before Snyder got attached to it, though, so it kinda feels like he just threw that one together, and Rebel Moon was a cool idea terribly executed. Definitely not perfect, but I do think he has his merits.

I think the BIGGEST mistake the DCEU made as a franchise was it's clear envy and insecurity around the MCU. Instead of properly pacing its movies and stories like them, they tried to imitate them and immediately race to the finish line. Suicide Squad clearly tried to be more like Guardians and Justice League came about without even introducing most of the characters OR a clear history for most of them. Avengers earned it's hype by properly developing everyone and it felt like an appropriate payoff. The entire franchise had an identity crisis and NO plan.

DC has already made some of the most widely beloved superhero film-adaptations in existence. The DC Animated shows of Batman, Superman, & the Justice League. These shows, which provide well-regarded & already-proven templates of both character & plot, could provide DC with decades of hugely profitable & respected movies. But no... they wanted to be edgy, so they instantly ruined the characters of the most famous heroes in the world. Normally, I am vehemently against remaking movies or TV-shows that are already well-made & beloved, but I think that in this case I would enjoy seeing 2 movies a year, for the next few decades, of DC making FAITHFUL films out of the best interpretations of their characters.

The DCU was something I held out hope for, for a while, for a multitude of reasons. When MOS came out I was a young teenager and was very sick. While in the hospital MOS was one of my favorite movies to watch, especially with one of the themes of the film being ‘hope’, which is something I was looking for at that time. Besides that, IMUO, especially looking back, I thought that Snyder brought something unique, with a more dark tone to the comic book movie genre, that I feel was needed, especially for DC where much darker themes are prevalent. I’m aware of the issues people have with his films but, I feel like we at least had some sort of plan, that, if we had gotten to see it follow through to the end, people would be a lot more understanding to what he was trying to do, while now it seem that there is no plan, and if there is, I’m afraid it’s gonna try to be a copy cat of marvel with oversaturation of “content” that marvel is now. It’s very unfortunate to see a lot of the franchises I love growing up, go down hill, and DC, for me at least was one that hurt the most
@jordanwhite35211 ай бұрын
So one not only is a bad plan as awful as no plan and either is desirable not to shit on your childhood. But I got confused with the how the fuck did you get any hopefulness from Man of steel in particular because it was only said the word hope but there was nothing actually hopeful in it and then I remembered you were a teenager at the time And I'm like oh!. Because that's kind of what I feel like with a lot of Zack Snyder stuff when he has no plot guidance is he literally has the mindset of a 12-year-old boy that just hit puberty. Again he kept saying oh it's about a realistic Superman and hope and then everything he did in the man of steel alone was incredibly unrealistic and was entirely dreadful to the point where even Batman would have told him the light in the mood.

I agree with all of these, especially because they couldn't have still had some of these beats in here and make them work. Literally in the comics or some of the comics. There's a whole thing where Paul can't gets cancer and literally no amount of human or kryptonian technology can solve it and so he has to actually confront death and his father is honorary. Words are that he should go out and fight for people which makes him even want to be Superman even more. That scenario would have been a right way to do the Jonathan Kent's. Dad's death meant something instead of whatever bullshit they came up with. Same thing with the. They could have made it at a theme that Clark does not want to have innocent bystanders but this kryptonian war keeps doing that and really had built through the entire film of not killing so that when he does kill zod, it's a big giant thing for him. All that would be honest. I would have saved that more for a second Superman film. It could have worked but as the video essayist has put greatly, Zach only cares about the moment to moment beats instead of how they actually all connect with each other.

Rushing things.They wanted to make Avengers level money without putting in the work. Without hiring people that understood the assignment was create an interconnected universe. Then the pandemic happened and both franchises lost their momentum and mojo, although there have been some films I have enjoyed since then.

She is completely right. People just stop caring anymore. They are to the point that when holywood anounces they are going to make a movie about a comic or book that audience goes "oh no" instead of being actually excited. The oposite of love is not hate. You need to care for something to actually hate it. It's apathy for what holywood is doing that shows that these franchises are dead. People literally don't care for any super-hero movie and it's not because of 'super-hero fatige'. it's 'bs fatige'. having a good, positive, inclusive and inspiring message is not the problem if the movie's good. It only starts to become a problem when the message takes precedence over the actual quality of the movie as a whole. @@ianesgrecia8568 Exactly, the X-Men are a great example because of just how progressive they were when they came out. The X-Men were a metaphor for all the major civil rights movements, especially the early queer rights movements of the 70's and 80's. It was a comic for all of us who were marginalized because of who we were, to finally have a voice. It mattered back then, and it wasn't surface level either. It dealth with deep, complex characters, without it feeling preachy or superficial because the comics were just that good. Nowadays, making a story about the X-Men means either doing a period-piece or forcing a level of oppression, discrimination and marginalization that isn't there anymore. I still remember seeing the Superman logo, then Batman's behind it and thinking they were going to do a "World's Finest" adaptation with the two working together. Like Batman having to come to Metropolis for some case and running into Superman, the two working together, etc. Boggled my mind they decided a story about the near-end of their relationship as comrades and friends was the right basis for the start of that relationship in the cinematic universe. I will say this, though... I think if he had McFarlane writing the script, Snyder might be a killer director for a Spawn movie. The character fits his style and sensibilities for a film and a character. He did a great job with 300 and an adequate job with Watchmen which most thought was utterly impossible to adapt (not perfect, but when you go from impossible to adequate but flawed, that's still an achievement in my eyes), so I think with him primarily being a director and someone else handling the story, he could pull a win with Spawn.

man of Steel was a dull bore that didn't understand it's main character, trying to make Superman as much like Batman as possible. Then they rushed into the team ups before establishing the characters and building them up so we'd want or care if they team up. They rushed Supermans death into the second film so it obviously wasn't going to last and Superman had barely had a chance to even do anything for his death to mean anything. The villains were all lame. The visuals were ugly overly CGI green screen looking really fake with CGI lights and lazers coming out of every orifice.

Snyder had an interesting take on DC. However, I think it was a big mistake to make a "dark" version of DC and aim to have the biggest mainstream and international appeal. People do not want to watch depressing stuff over and over again. They don't bring their kids to sad and depressing movies. Especially internationally where certain themes and ideas don't carry over well. And people don't buy toys to remind themselves of depressing movies. Biggest mistake for DC was that they used a budget large enough where they needed full mainstream appeal and international audiences to make a profit and they made so many gritty/dark stuff that is more niche.
