I always struggle with prayer. Never sure what to say, how to ask. The best prayer I ever prayed was at a time when I was beyond desperate. My husband was ill with Huntington's Disease and could not work. I was trying to cope, pay bills, and take care of him. I was working all the time not really getting anywhere. One day I just stopped. I told God that I gave up. I was not very nice when I told him I couldn't do it anymore. I needed him to figure it out and help me. The most wonderful peace came over me. We made it through the next 10 years. Until my husband passed with me at his side.

Julie thank you for sharing your heartfelt story about prayer......God is okay with you being mad or frustrated with him.... David who was a man after God's own heart cried out often. The words aren't as important to God as much as our heart posture. The beautiful thing about God is he meets us right where we are .... which his peace did for you. Prayer can be just having a conversation with God. Your story is powerful and may help others in our Become New Community Be Blessed Bucky

Thank you for coming out with your wonderful story of you bearing it all and finding the peace of God. He really does meet us right where we are! To God the glory!❤❤

Thank you so much, John. I think it was Donald Bloesch who said that “prayer is born of desperation.” It is so true. Thank you for reminding us so forcefully today. God bless you. Praying for you.

Amen brother John! The very fact that we hate our sin even while sinning and knowing our sin does not put a smile on our Father's face, and we crave that "spiritual atta-boy pat on the back" our Father gives when we do right is all a good sign (to me) that we are in a real relationship. Even Feeling that we want more intimacy while failing at the level we already have is a good sign

Dallas defined power as the ability to effect change. Admitting we are powerless means that we are unable to produce the change that we need, and points us to our need for help from a Higher Power. We should not equate being powerless with being helpless (unable to be helped). The only people who are helpless are those who cannot admit they are powerless.

I like AA’s word “powerless” better than O Hallesby’s “helpless.” Because, while we don’t have power, we do have help, from God.

I love the dictionary definition of helplessness. unable to help oneself;(not that we can’t be helped but that WE can’t do it by our own power or might) weak or dependent: a helpless invalid. deprived of strength or power; powerless. I am helpless to help myself. I have tried everything. I cannot change the addiction of my loved one or the unbelief of my children, or even my responses or way of coping by my own power. I am powerless. I require a savior who knows me, sees me, loves me. I believe with all my heart only he can restore me to the sanity of trust, faith, and joy in him.
